Then, reconnect with nature at pristine beaches and quiet green spaces—with plenty of flora and fauna along the way.

TOP SIGHTS: Surround yourself in the glamour of a bygone era at The Boca Raton, an impeccably modernized 1926 resort designed by architect Addison Mizner, who brought the relaxed Mediterranean style to The Palm Beaches. Then, shop the outdoor Mizner Park for fashionable boutiques and the indoor Town Center at Boca Raton for international brands. At Boca Raton Museum of Art, peruse centuries of artwork and can’t-miss traveling exhibits. Kiddos can get hands-on with the exhibits at the Children’s Science Explorium, a free science center for ages 5–12. For fun in the sun, go fishing on the Intracoastal Waterway at Spanish River Park, or go underwater to marvel at sea life at Red Reef Park’s newly extended recreational snorkel reef. At Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, visit and see the Coastal Steward Sustainable Gift Shop, trails, gopher tortoises, aquariums, butterfly garden and exhibits.

Lake Okeechobee, Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay

ENTER THE GATEWAY TO THE EVERGLADES.

Along the southeastern shore of Lake Okeechobee, Florida’s largest freshwater lake, The Glades comprises three towns—Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay—and is known as the gateway to the Everglades. Here, the rich, fertile soil is prime for agriculture, making this area the Winter Vegetable Capital of the country.

TOP SIGHTS: Escape to a serene side of The Palm Beaches, where palm trees give way to mossdraped oaks and tropical landscapes melt into farms and “black gold” soil. Follow U.S. Highway 98/State Road 80 or U.S. Highway 27 to see miles of farmland, and pull over at Harold A. Campbell Public Use Area for native wildlife and the Florida Everglades. Take in views of Lake Okeechobee, an angler’s paradise famed for largemouth bass fishing, along the paved Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail. Bring your RV or tent to stay on the waterfront at Pahokee Marina and Campground in Pahokee or Torry Island Campground in Belle Glade, and enjoy birding, golfing, boating and picnicking nearby. Learn about the history and culture of the area at the Lawrence E. Will Museum, which explores the local Black experience through generations, from harvesting sugarcane to community development. At night, see what’s onstage at Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center, on the Belle Glade campus of Palm Beach State College.
