Why the heck is Tory King writing this Editor’s Letter? And what happened to Athena? And where has Attention
SL been all these months? For those who’ve been out of the loop, I’m here to give you some context and history.
With barely a dime and a prayer, Athena Mariposa published her first issue of Attention (as it was called then – the “SL” came later) in May of 2016. The magazine’s chief focus in its scrappy beginnings was – wait for it – sex. Yes, like most of us in SL, Ms. Mariposa possessed a healthy, happy libido (don’t even ask about my early SL days –yikes).

As Athena’s knowledge deepened, through her drive and experience, the magazine began its slow, steady growth, a blossoming flower.
By the time I came on board as guest photographer (April 2019), Attention was an SL institution with a loyal readership; a lifestyle staple covering fashion (women’s and men’s), décor, art, travel, and more.
But, “RL comes first”. No one, not even Athena, is immune to that fact. She didn’t realize it at the time, but the November 2022 issue was her swan song as publisher of Attention SL
Her RL obligations would no longer allow her to give the magazine the focus and love it required.
So, she faced a quandary. Should she “throw out the baby with the bathwater”,or – crazy idea – search for an “adoptive parent” to nurture and care for her treasured creation?
I’d been Attention SL’s Lead Photographer in recent years and, as such, had worked very closely with

“The Boss”, brainstorming story ideas, vetting potential contributors, and so on. Still, when she offered the magazine to me several months ago, I was stunned, flattered, terrified, excited –you name it.
Ultimately, the loyalty I felt for both Athena and the magazine won out. So, here we are. My hope is to carry on with Athena’s vision albeit filtered through the lens of my own individual tastes and obsessions, all with the goal of establishing Attention SL as Second Life’s foremost lifestyle publication – the go-to, indepth source for everyone wishing to lead their best lives here.
Attention SL covers through the years, 2016 (first issue!), 2018, 2020, and 2022 - Athena’s final issue.

While slowly navigating the steep learning curve required for this mission, I’ve felt immense gratitude for the advice and support of many generous souls.
In this relaunch issue, you’ll find work from most of them, including some of Attention SL’s long-time, loyal staff members – Aria Christen, Boudicca Amat, Brunella Voelisa, Dirk Vanlager, Elaine Lectar, Lori Bailey, and Mya Audebarn.
We’re also welcoming back some all-stars from the past – Jason Canucci, Morgaine Warblood, Mrs. Sassypants, and P e d r o.
New contributors include Bellisima Benelli (marketing manager), Charlyrayne, Divos Titanium, Eli Hunter (social media director), Kere Delcon (assistant editor), and Verandi Diavolo.
Special thanks to our guest contributors Lika Cameo, Luke Niklas Pierce, Matty King, and Sparklebottom Lasertits (cover girl from Athena’s final issue!).
And yes, Athena remains as curator of her personal passion, Attention SL’s “World Famous Flickr Section”.
Finally, I wish to acknowledge a Second Life dynamo who, though not a staff member, has shared her insights and wisdom, lovingly and magnanimously - Ms. Kess Crystal (Seraphim and Glamour Sauce). She’s buoyed my spirits more than words can say. Happy Summer, everyone! g
TORY KING, Editor in Chief
