Stadtentw채sserung Dresden We will clear it up for you!

Dresdens ppp-model  private public partnership by the capital of Saxony and GELSENWASSER AG

More than 100 years of experience  1870 the planned development of the sewer system started  1910 the waste water treatment plant Dresden-Kaditz was put into operation

Some facts about Dresden

About us  main tasks

Our capital  405 employees among them approx. 32 apprentices

 technical staff 258 employees

 commercial staff and management 115 employees

 assets 582 million Euros

 annual turn over 84 million Euros

Solid tools for the job  1,750 kilometer: length of all sewers  central treatment plant Dresden-Kaditz 740,000 population equivalent

 3 smaller local sewerage plants Two main collectors along the river Elbe

Our catchment area

Overflow management system  2 large storm water overflow tanks (in sum with a capacity of 36,000 cubic meters)

 14 channels with a total storage capacity of 56,000 cubic meters

Flood protection

Flood pumping station Stetzsch: 1,2 m続/s

Flood pumping station Kl辰ranlage Kaditz: >9 m続/s

Flood pumping station Johannstadt (ab 2010): bis 18 m続/s

In the Eighties of the last century the river Elbe was one of the most polluted European rivers

Investments in the canalization between 1990 and 2010  326 million Euros 53 % reconstruction 47 % extension

Investments in the Sewage treatment plants between 1990 and 2010  268 million Euros

The fees in Dresden

1.69 Euros per year for every square meter sealed surface which is connected with the public sewer system

1.73 Euros per cubic meter used drinking water

Our solar power plant is on the roof of the rainwater tank  Dresden’s second largest solar power plant with an output of 190 kWh

 in 2009 the plant produced an amount of 170 MWh  that correlates with the annual need of 45 families and with 0.7 percent of the total consumption of the STW Kaditz (cash-equivalent is 95,000 EUR)

 the investment (900,000 EUR) will be refinanced within 12 years

Hydro energy by turbine in the STW outlet  use of the difference between the water levels of the secondary clarifier and the river Elbe  in 2009 the plant produced about 672 MWh energy, which correlates to the consumption of 170 families

 which also correlates to 2.7 percent of the total consumption of the STW Kaditz  feeding the hydro-electric power into our own grid reduces the energy costs

Heat energy from waste water  new construction of the fire and civil protection center 

heat supply: 750 MWh/year

coolness supply: 100 MWh/year

annual heat demand will be covered up to 45 percent

annual coolness demand will be covered up to 100 percent

Extension of the sludge treatment  new construction of a biogas plant  technical solution: digestion towers with a volume of 2x10,500 cubic meters

 combined heat and power unit  fluid sludge utilization  generation of biogas with an energy equivalent of 33,573 MWh/year 

including 12,758 MWh electric power

 reduction of sludge mass by about 30 percent
