Yoda was Winners Dog at the Chihuahua Club of Greater New York and Chihuahua Club of Maryland Specialties where he was also Best Puppy in Specialty. He was Select Dog at both the Chihuahua Club of America Spring Specialty (as a move-up from the puppy class) and the Michigan Chihuahua Club Specialty. It takes a dedicated group of Breeders working for the betterment of our breed, along with a Professional Handler who can step in when needed, to breed and present a dog like “Yoda” to the fancy. We at Cogie Chihuahuas are honoured by the recognition Yoda has received, with his big personality he has made friends at shows where ever her goes whether with us as Breeder/Owner/Handlers or with his professional parents Tom Curley and Diane Bell. You cannot go under a show tent without hearing someone say “Hi Yoda” and him promptly going over for a pat. Many have seen the beautiful pictures of Tom and Yoda doing their thing. We thank everyone who supported the opportunity for us to have such a special dog in our lives and to have helped build a breeding program that is producing top ranked dogs, as well as Champion after Champion in Canada, the U.S and most importantly at our breeds Specialty shows. INSIDE COVER DOG

On May 10th, 2013 DIESEL went to his first CKC All Breed Show, and five shows over two weekends later he was a new CKC Champion. He has earned his Temperament Test Title, his UKC Championship, and is AKC pointed from the bred by class. He has won BOSS at the Thames Valley Specialty Show this past June, 6 Group 1st, and is currently #7 Doberman in Canada. He recently went Best in Show at the Markham & District All Breed Shows! Diesel has even tried lure coursing, but let’s just say we’ll work on his obedience before trying that again. In September he will be taking his St. John Therapy Dog Test. DIESEL has been the most clumsy dog we’ve ever owned, he’s dislocated a hip, pulled muscles, and cut his pads. He started showing so late because every time we’d enter a show, he’d injure himself. He’s a dog I’m proud to say we’ve bred, owned and handle to all his adventures. He will be two November 20th, 2013.

MEET OUR JUDGE OF THE WEEK LEE ANNE BATEMAN Edmonton, Alberta

In 1986, the Snowghost kennel name was registered and this started my rich and rewarding dog show journey. While Samoyed is my original breed, I have bred and shown Shih Tzu, Pomeranian, Siberian Husky, German Shepherd Dogs, and currently, Japanese Chin. As a breeder and exhibitor, I am very proud to have campaigned several Snowghost Samoyed that attained #1 status in Canada, and Japanese Chin that also attained #1 status in that breed’s standings in Canada. Since 2000 I have been honored to have been, asked to judge at Shows across Canada, in Australia, Brazil, Colombia and Denmark. As well as judging breeds, groups and Best in Show, these judging experiences have included: Alberta 2003 Regional Shar Pei Specialty, the 2011 Canadian National Samoyed Specialty, the 2012 Western Gazehound Specialty, the 2012 Show of Winners in Copenhagen, Denmark, a Papillon/Phalene Specialty in Denmark, a Sighthound Specialty in 2011 in Canada, a Doberman Pinscher Specialty in 2011 in Brazil; and, Supported Entry events for several breeds in the Working, Toy and Non-Sporting groups. 1. Home city? Edmonton, Alberta 2. Breed or breeds you have bred? Samoyed, under the prefix Snowghost, has always been my main breed. Over the years, I have also bred Shih Tzu, Siberian Husky, German Shepherd Dogs and currently, Japanese Spaniel under the prefix Xclusive. 3.Years you have been judging? 14 years 4.Licensed for or – on permit for? I am currently on permit for the Sporting Group, I am licensed for all other groups 5.Judged in what countries? besides Canada, Australia, Brazil, Colombia and Denmark 6.All time favorite assignment? I love judging dogs and can honestly say I’ve enjoyed all of my assignments, across Canada and internationally. One unique opportunity however, was when I was asked to judge at the Show of Winners in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is an all-day event that ends in a black-tie finale and it was truly an honor to judge all of the wonderful dogs at that event.

7.Favourite dog or dogs judged from the past? In 2003, when judging a Shar Pei Specialty, I had the distinct pleasure of having one of the ‘greats’ come in my ring as a veteran. Ch Shengli Nutrageous of Teaten, ‘Rage’ was the dog’s name. I very clearly remembered competing in the BIS ring with that dog on several occasions. It is always an honour to share ‘The Big Ring’ with dogs of great quality, and Rage was one of those fierce and deserving opponents. Having Rage come in as a veteran, gaiting and showing with all of the aplomb that he had always displayed – well, that made for a pretty special memory. 8.Pet peeve’s in your ring? I don’t really have what I would call pet peeves. Like all judges, I expect and appreciate good sportsmanlike behavior. All judges and exhibitors too dislike and are rather taken aback by poor sportsmanship. If I had to pick something as a peeve, I guess it would be if I see an exhibitor being too demanding of a young dog. As an exhibitor, I remember showing a fair number of youngsters and, while I wanted them to stand for examination, show and gait beautifully, I also wanted them to keep their puppy exuberance. I appreciate exhibitors who show me their young charges, have them ring-ready, and yet still allow them to be puppies. Our dogs need to enjoy the sport just as much as we do, so we need to be good sports with our dogs as well. 9.Favourite way to relax? Painting is one of my passions and it’s something that I can truly lose myself in – hours fly without notice when I have a brush in my hand and I’m standing in front of an easel. 10.How do you occupy your time in travel? If I have a good book at-hand, I read. With iPads and Kindles, it’s now very easy to have a good read within reach. On long flights when the eyes get tired, well there’s usually a movie that I don’t mind watching on that 6X8 inch screen! 11.What do you think is the biggest problem facing our Sport? The decrease in the number of young people, We need to figure out how to get new people involved in our Sport. 12.What are your thoughts on limit shows? They can be very beneficial in remote areas of this country. The appropriate and acceptable number and location of limit shows needs to be assessed on a province-by-province basis, and the best decisions need to be made to benefit all of the show-giving Clubs in an area as well as local and area exhibitors.

BREEDER PROFILE 90& 16(4 t -&"//" .05564

What attracted you to your breed? I first met up with the breed when I was working at a Home Hardware. I instantly fell in love with their cute little short faces and their goofy personalities. Later when I bought my first home I did my research into the breed and they were everything I was looking for. How many years have you been breeding and exhibiting? I bought my first pug in 1998. She was my first to be titled and then bred. My first litter was born in 2000. What are your accomplishments in your breed? In 2007 my breeding program was blessed with a litter of 4 boys, 2 of which I kept. One of these boys is MULTI BIS MBISS AM & CAN CH. Xoe’s Oscar De La Hoya

who grew up to be Canada’s top winning Pug of all time. His accomplishments include: 29 All Breed BIS, 12 BISS including Best in Specialty at the Pug Dog Club of Canada twice. Oscar was Best in Specialty at the Pug Club of America National Specialty, He also won multiple Toy Specialties. He was Best Of Breed and Group 3rd at Westminster in 201l. Oscar is the sire of multiple BIS, BISS winning get including one with a Championship in 13 countries (Rose’s Knock Down Eight Count). He was #1 Pug in Canada 3 years in a row, #3 Toy in 2009 and #1 Toy, #3 All Breed in 2010, #2 Toy in 2011 in very limited showing. His littermate, Xoe’s Cassius Clay, started out as Winners Dog at the Pug Club of America in 2008. He was the #2 Pug in Canada in 2009 and 2011, and has won a BIS and a BISS. He has also sired multiple BIS and BISS winning get. Cassius is even smart enough to get his CGN and receive his Grand Championship! A few other highlights from my breeding program: Ch. Xoe’s There’s an App For That finished his title taking a Group 1 from the Jr puppy class and won Best in Specialty at the Pug Dog Club of Canada in 2012 at 10 months of age. Xoe’s You Rock My World (black pug) is a dog I sold to Russia and has gone on to win his Grand Championship and MBISS’s. Did you have a mentor in your Breed? I have had many great breeders guide me along the way, some of them are: Poul and Moraine Kirby-Green (Kirby pug), Carla Rose (Rose pugs), Patti Kolesar Stoltz (Tupelo pugs), Lee VanLeeuwen (Sycamore pugs)

Do you believe Judges have a good understanding of your breed? Like any breed I think some do and some don’t. In as few words as possible describe the essence of your Breed? Square body, round head, curly tail and “multum in parvo” or a lot in a little. What are the medical problems in your breed? Pugs can have issues with hips, patellas, and eyes but my main concern is their respiratory systems. Fault wise, currently what needs the most improvement in your breed? Fronts, toplines and shortness of loin What do you believe to be the best dog you have bred? Multi BIS BISS Am & Cn Ch.Xoe’s Oscar De La Hoya What dog of your breed would you have loved to own? In my opinion, one of the top pugs in history Multi BIS BISS Am Ch. Glory’s Fantasy Tugboat Willy How many dogs do you normally have in your kennel? My dogs are all in my house so I have to keep my numbers low. I farm out some

of my girls to placement homes and the boys live with my co-owners/co-breeders Elyse Fernets, Carla Rose and Michelle Chisholm. How many litters do you have in a year and what is the average size of your litters? On average I probably have 2. "SF ZPV IBWJOH USPVCMF TFMMJOH PS QMBDJOH ZPVS QVQQJFT I never have trouble selling or placing my puppies.
