Carrie Smith of Terre Haute, Indiana, builds her successful real estate business by combining up-to-date knowledge of market trends and practices with an unwavering dedication to persistent and limitless growth. “I call it ‘leveling up.’ I’ve been doing this for a while now and I keep pushing my edges. I’ve recently started walking down another avenue for growth: other brokers have joined me, so now I’m helping them become successful with their own endeavors. It’s amazing to watch them and help on their journey to make their dreams a reality also.”

This habit of growth and ambition is a deeply seated disposition for Carrie, who enjoyed a career as an educator before transitioning to real estate. “While I was teaching, my brother-in-law, who is partial owner of Gibson Real Estate, kept telling me I would be a natural. I had already held my real estate license, so I left teaching at the end of the year and started to build up my business that summer.” Since then, Carrie has steadily built an enterprise with Gibson Real Estate, servicing Terre Haute and the five surrounding counties. Her annual volume, which is bolstered by a book of business that is over seventy-five percent repeat and referral clients, averages over $20 million. “I make sure my clients just need to show up at closing with their ID,” she exudes. “I follow through on what needs to happen, handle all contractors for their sale, contact with titles, lenders, and attorneys, everything! I do a lot of business in the luxury market, and being able to provide that white glove level of service is just one way I to set myself apart – I bring that upgraded treatment to all of my clients, no matter their range or needs.”

In addition to providing impeccable interpersonal service, Carrie prides herself on her ability to leverage cutting edge marketing strategies and tools to garner competitive offers for every listing. “Whatever anybody else is doing, I make it my own and improve it; make it unique. We do a lot of digital marketing with videos and drone footage – I consider myself a full service agent.” Carrie readily attributes a portion of her success to her husband, who empowers her by shouldering a majority of the domestic burdens they share. “I have a hubby who is a stay-athome dad. He handles the dishes, laundry, all that jazz – this is a 365 days a year kind of job, and I’ve even been caught working on Christmas Day. I’m fortunate to have him so I can live and breathe real estate!”

In addition to her partner, Carrie is endlessly grateful for her clients and professional colleagues, and she is excited to continue using her skills as an educator to further impact the industry. “As a teacher I was able to build on strengths,” she recalls, “and help people on to their next stage in life. Now I get to do that with families – that’s my favorite thing about what I do. This also helps you in your own life, to see where you’ve been and where you might be headed next. I’m looking forward to continuing that by helping the agents working alongside me and everyone I advise as clients. ‘I work for you’ is my motto. Anyone who knows me, just gets it!”
