Dogs that have passed the puppy stage around 12 months plus, and have basic training within them. Because of the success and wonderful life Dale had with Henry, sourcing Golden Retrievers is one of our greatest desires. Autism affects 1:100 people. In Scotland there are 50,000 people affected with autism and if you include their families, autism touches 200,000 lives. Friends of Henry Foundation hopes to help as many children and adults, as possible as our dogs could be used to visit the child's school for other autistic children to learn from. To date, our educational program has enabled new progress and breakthroughs of all 5 severely autistic children with the help of a "special stuffed dog" one child spoke for the first time, imagine what a real dog could achieve for these children and others alike. If anyone reading this article would like to help in any way please get in touch. I am aware that for many different reasons sometimes breeders and owners of Retrievers have to find new homes for their dogs. Maybe for some of these dogs our charity could be the perfect home for them. It may be that we could have private arrangements for some breeders to hold onto a puppy to serve our cause. To help supply and demand when a dog is placed with a family via our charity the parents take full ownership of the dog until its demise. The child is then able to learn and develop with their dog like Dale did with Henry, Our charity will provide ongoing support and educational resources free of charge throughout the dogs life. Now that I had achieved all this the biggest hurdle would be finding suitable dogs for our work.
