As a medical device company that designs, engineers and manufactures spinal implants and instruments, Nexxt Spine works to develop their products from “concept to commercialization” by housing all of their individual departments — engineers, manufacturers and customer services representatives —“all under one roof ” as Engineering Manager Alaedeen Abumulaweh says.
A 2012 development agreement with the City of Noblesville provided incentives for the company to remain in Noblesville and develop its business here. A year later, the company signed the Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) tax credit.
“We don’t want to outsource,” he says.
Founded in 2009 by President Andy Elsbury, Nexxt Spine has grown its production over the past nine years. The company first began by producing the industry staple: the pedicle screws.

“The pedicle screws are the bread and butter, so to speak, of the industry,” Abumulaweh says. “We developed those products first and then went from that foundation to innovation.” The company creates products from the bread and butter pedicle screws to the
cutting-edge, 3D-printed porous titanium interbody implants in the same way: with the people who will use their products. “The first step is assembling a surgeon design team,” Abumulaweh says. The surgeons specialize in specific sections of the vertebrae, providing comprehensive feedback to the engineers and manufacturers at Nexxt Spine. “We’ll ask them for points of concern about current technology,” he says. Nexxt Spine will use the concerns of these medical experts to engineer and manufacture products that will meet the needs and wants of the surgeons. After all, starting with the surgeons who best know their patients’ needs is practical.
