Idea 1

Oleksandr Hnatenkoam ABONDENED SPACE This photograph stood out to me out of the set Hnatenkoam took for his ‘’Abandoned Space’’ shoot. The photograph displays an unknown person covering their head with what appears to be a tv screen. The use of the tv screen on her head displays that she could possibly be aPemp-ng to fit in with her surroundings, also the tv’s that are layed out on the ground have been neatly placed in separate lines. This is contras-ng with her messy and abandoned area. It could also be displaying her character. The model also appears to gripping the tv screen, this displays fright and protec-on. It also displays frustra-on, and the idea that the model is trying to run away from something hence why the model has disguised them self. It is not even evident the gender of the model. There are -les that are missing on the wall, this could possibly represent a lost or missing piece of her hence why she came to sit in this abandoned space alone. The model stands out as the subject in the photograph even though they are clearly at the back of the photograph. I like the photograph as it gives many different meanings and raises many ques-ons to the viewer. I also like how the photograph is unique and displays and interes-ng way to show technology. I will incorporate the use of the his photographs into my work with the use of the old technology and puVng them over my models head.

The Magical Journey FRANK DOBRUSHKEN

This is one of the photographs that are displayed in Shoreline City Hall Gallery. There has only been a use of black and white in the photograph this displays the lack of colour, making the photograph seem dull even though there is allot going on in the photograph with plenty of different shapes and sizes. The middle of the photograph displays a shape with sharp edges, this could be the subject of the photograph because out of all of the shapes and pieces, it appears to be the most in focus. The sharp edges represent Danger. This could also represent society today and how they look at the youth as dangerous and capable of going against the law and commiVng crime. It can also represent how knife and gang crime and violence is increasing in the uk between youths, however in then side of the photograph there appears to be a flower. This could represent the innocence that is s-ll in our youth no maPer what society portrays them to be. The sharp object being in the middle of the photograph could also represent how the youth are the future. I like how many different shapes there are in the photograph, It gives the photograph diversity. I will incorporate his work into my photographs with the use of different shapes and sizes and also the type of machinery/technology in the photograph.

INITIAL SET

DEVELOPMENT

EVALUATION My theme for m exam piece was Growth and Evolu-on and my task was to choose a concept and idea and develop it with an ini-al set of images and development. Before deciding what my ini-al idea was going to be a researched a variety of ideas , each giving me a basis on where to begin with my work, and the type of photographs I would be taking. At first I decided my main idea was going to be the growth of technology. This was the first idea that came to me when given the theme and there was an array of many different ideas that were going through my head. For my first idea (Idea 1), I wanted to take a more literal approach to the technology aspect of my photographs by using a model and taking photographs of them with some old/dated technology that isn't really being used any longer. For this idea I ini-ally took over 100 photographs which I ended up cuVng down. The first set of photographs I took were in the black studio. I wanted the mo9del and the props to stand out in the photographs so I new using the black studio would give that effect I was looking for. The majority of the photographs I used where colour. I used flash to create the ligh-ng for these photographs. I took a different approach to my idea with my first set of photographs, I ensured my model looked simple with a hint of fashion. The bright red s-lePo heels my model was wearing in the photographs displayed this. This created a simplis-c yet unique approach to my photographs and also created a contrast between the coloured props my model used, making them stand s-ll. In one of my photographs for the set, my model is holding the red old telephone This matches and creates a good use of colour and the model is wearing red lips-ck also. In my developed photographs I used layers on Photoshop to create a colourful mask. I also used Analog Effex Pro, to give my photographs the space-‐like feel to them. The visual impact my photographs have on the viewers are quite intrigued. I do believe that my photographs reach the level of symbolism needed, however, the photographs

I do believe that my photographs reached the needed level of symbolism needed as I had various ideas that are all diverse and different from the others. I had some more literal approaaches to some of my photographs and I also had some photographs where the audience has to read between the lines to geth the approach I was going for. Furthermore, I am very pleased with the quality of my work, I believe my photographs are strong yet unique, and answers matches my brief. I par-cularly like my developed photographs as they portray a more ar-s-c outlook on my photographs, and adds a burst of colour to my black and white originated photographs. I believe my use of props through out the photographs make them come alive. There is evidently a range of different ideas in my set of photographs and each are different and unique to the others, however, as successful as I believe my photographs to have turned out there is s-ll room for improvement and I do believe I could’ve developed my other ideas further. I believe that I pushed my crea-ve boundaries with my work as not only did I look at the photographic side of my images but I developed them in an ar-s-c way. I experimented with my photographs and tested out many different types of edi-ng techniques before deciding what final methods I was going to use for them. There are many ar-sts that inspired me with my work. These include Kylie Tunney. Her studio based photographs gave me a basis on the loca-on and how I will take the photographs. If given more -me on my project I would’ve taken my photographs in more loca-ons and created another set of photographs. I also would’ve done much more research which would’ve given me more direc-on and inspira-on with my work but as a whole I believe my project is a success.
