‘Stay and Play’

In the Kingdom of Golf If you were to describe a circle with a radius of 50 miles and its centre at The Golf Pad, you would incorporate the finest selection of quality golf courses anywhere in the world. Narrow it down to 25 miles and still there are more than two dozen of the finest courses imaginable on offer – including two Open venues and half a dozen Open qualifying courses. Whatever your taste in golf course architecture, The Golf Pad is able to deliver: from the cerebral genius of the Old Course at St Andrews to the brutal majesty of Carnoustie, The Golf Pad has famous links golf covered. Add to these household names the lesser known gems such as Scotscraig and the Balcomie Links at Crail, where teeing off over the North Sea is a twice-

Modern classics such as Kyle Phillips’s Kingsbarns and David McLay Kidd’s St Andrews Castle Course represent a contemporary take on the links genre; both are within 20 miles of The Golf Pad and add true, modern classics to The Golf Pad’s golfing canon. Such seaside experiences are the traditional fayre of Scottish Golf but the tight, tree-lined fairways of Ladybank or the majestic Kings Course of Gleneagles, offer a variety that is unmatched. Indeed the inland, fivestar complex at Gleneagles is set to host the 2014 Ryder Cup – another reason to consider The Golf Pad as your personal hub for the finest golf course experience in the world.

St Andrews Old Course “I fell in love with it the first day I played it. There’s just no other golf course that is even remotely close.” Jack Nicklaus The Old Course is the Home of Golf where golf was first played 600 years ago. The fabled original links course is synonymous with The Open Championship which it has hosted an unparalleled 28 times.

St Andrews Castle Course “The most eagerly awaited new course in the world. An instant classic.” Golf World The Castle Course, set on a rugged cliffline overlooking the ancient town of St Andrews, combines breathtaking views with a memorable golfing challenge. Designed by David Kidd, creator of Bandon Dunes, Oregon, The Castle Course opened in 2008 and was included within the prestigious Golf Digest Top 100 rankings almost immediately.

Carnoustie Golf Links – The Championship Course “Credit to Carnoustie. It’s one of the best in the world” Padraig Harrington Golf has been played over the links at Carnoustie since the 1500’s but its design and layout have changed over the years thanks to Old Tom Morris and legendary architect James Braid. With the Barry Burn easing its way through the final 3 holes, quietly awaiting the shot that is slightly less than perfect, it’s rightly regarded as having the hardest finishing stretch of all Open Championship courses.

Gleneagles –The PGA Centenary Course “The finest parcel of land in the world I have ever been given to work with” Jack Nicklaus The PGA Centenary Course, created by Jack Nicklaus, is a modern classic. So much so that it has been selected as the host venue for the 2014 Ryder Cup Matches. Unique in its challenge, it’s a course in the modern design ethos that tests the greatest players at its fullest stretch - a challenging 7,262 yards from the blue markers. For maximum playability however, the tees are graded at each hole in five stages, down to 5,271 from the red.

Gleneagles – King’s Course The King’s Course, opened in 1919, is a masterpiece of design, which has tested the aristocracy of golf, both professional and amateur. James Braid’s plan for the King’s Course was to test even the best players’ shot-making skills over the eighteen holes. Nearly 100 years on and it stands the test of time – Golf Monthly ranked it in the Top 30 Courses in UK & Ireland in 2010.

Kingsbarns Golf Links “Kingsbarns Golf Links is without doubt the best new golf course I have ever played” Sandy Jones, Executive Director of the PGA The only Scottish course to be built on links land in over 70 years, Kingsbarns enjoyed immediate acclaim by being awarded Golf Digest’s Best New International Course in 2000. Kingsbarns has joined the great old courses of nearby St Andrews and Carnoustie, bringing with it a new dimension to the traditional Scottish game.

Gleneagles – Queen’s Course The natural beauty of the Queen's Course inspires the world's most experienced players. Designed by James Braid in 1919, The Queen's Course, in its long history, has played host to some of the world's golfing greats – Miller, Norman, Ballesteros, Watson and Trevino. Threading through high ridges on the north and west sides of the estate, the Queen's offers lovely woodland settings, lochans and ditches as water hazards, as well as many moorland characteristics. #61 – Golf Monthly Top 100 Courses UK & Ireland 2010 St Andrews – New Course The New Course is often regarded as the oldest "new" course in the world. A classic links course with undulating fairways and delightfully challenging greens, it was set out in 1895 by Old Tom Morris. Named the New to differentiate it from the original course at the Links which became the Old Course, the course remains one of the finest examples of Morris' work to be found anywhere. #60 – Golf Monthly Top 100 Courses UK & Ireland 2010 #63 – Golf Digest Top 100 outside US 2009-2010 St Andrews - Jubilee Course Now well into its second century of life, the Jubilee Course has developed from a basic 12-hole layout into what many consider to be the toughest test of golf at St Andrews. Created on a narrow strip of prime golfing land between the New Course and the sea, the Jubilee was originally intended for ladies and beginners. It was laid out by John Angus junior and made ready in only three months. Qualifying course for the 2004 Amateur Championship. #92 – Golf Digest Top 100 outside US 2009-2010
