Cinqpet, Plastop sites go ASTRAPAK group has sold off the site in Denver, Johannesburg, where it operated its Cinqpet and part of its Plastop businesses from. It is also in the process of exiting the Plastop sites in Bronkhorstspruit near Pretoria, where the original Plastop business was located. It is consolidating its blow moulding and injection-blow moulding business in KZN. The development effectively draws the curtain on Cinqplast, one of the most successful businesses in the blow moulding market in South Africa to date. Cinqplast was one of the top PET bottle manufacturing businesses in Africa during the 1990s, but had been gradually downscaled to the point where it was about a quarter of its former size. The Plastop names continues in South Africa in the form of Plastop KZN

• The Cinqplast and Plastop names remain prominent in Australia, however: Gary Wolman of Cinqplast Plastop Australia, who was one of the founders of what became Cinqpet, advises that the business is going strong Down Under. Precision Moulds up and running

BASF Polyurethanes ceases production in SA BASF is adjusting its business approach for its Polyurethanes Systems and closed its polyurethane production site in Elandsfontein, Johannesburg, in November last year. The company said that, taking into account current market trends for PU Systems, it was differentiating more strongly between commodity-focused and specialty-focused market activities.

Eagle Inks bought by int’l Flint group FLINT Group, a global print supply business headquartered in Luxembourg, and its partner Continental Printing Inks have purchased Eagle Ink Systems of South Africa and formed a joint venture, Flint Group Africa. The transaction will allow Flint Group Africa to pursue a greater presence in the expanding continent. “We are looking forward to working with Sampie Hamman and his team to further grow our business together and bring customers in Africa the combined expertise of both Flint Group and Continental Printing Inks,� said Antoine Fady, CEO of Flint. Sampie Hamman, CEO Flint Group Africa, said: “A massive amount of knowledge and expertise is now accessible to printers and convertors in the Sub-Saharan Africa region. We’re looking forward to strengthening existing and building new customer relationships.�

New Cape toolroom specialises in complicated injection challenges A NEW dedicated toolroom has started in Cape Town: Precision Moulds & Engineering has set up in Brackengate Business Park, Brackenfell, where it is building injection moulds. 6WDUWHG E\ &UDLJ $SVH\ ZKR TXDOLÂż HG as a toolmaker in 1990, the company also does repairs to moulds and can work on moulds up to about one ton. Apsey followed an interesting route prior to taking the plunge with the new venture, with most of his experience to date being in the product design and production management areas, yielding arguably the

best ingredients for the owner-manager environment. He also spent time in the mould design and production sector. Precision Mould runs CAD design packages and specialises in complicated injection moulds. DuPont, TFI Marine honoured at European Plastics Innovation Awards DUPONT Performance Materials (DPM) and Technology from Ideas, Ireland (TFI) received the 2016 European Plastics Innovation Award in the ‘Hybrid Product’ category for a Dynamic Tethers mooring protection system used to protect wave energy devices in harsh sea conditions. The new mooring system, made with DuPont HytrelÂŽ, includes an energy damper, extruded in DuPont Hytrel TPC-ET (shown in red in the photograph), within the mooring line to reduce forces along the whole tether.
