1 – CONJUGAISON DES VERBES. NÉGATION ET INTERROGATION A Mettre à la 3e personne du singulier du présent simple, puis au prétérit les verbes suivants (tous réguliers). Noter la prononciation des terminaisons et les classer en trois catégories : • À la 3e personne du singulier du présent : [z], [s], [z] ; • Au prétérit : [d], [t], [d]. Les lire avec soin. to gaze, to consider, to start, to laugh, to record, to use, to stay, to cheer, to rush, to cry, to drop, to rest, to judge, to attend, to wash, to study, to wait, to weigh, to damage, to need, to appear, to walk, to decide, to stare, to miss, to insist, to waste, to snow, to fetch, to offer.

B Mettre au participe présent, par écrit et oralement : 1. to excite, to knit, to write, to hit, to admit, to profit, to fit, to invite. 2. to cover, to prefer, to conquer, to star, to stare, to answer, to occur, to offer, to appear, to flatter. 3. to can, to cane, to fan, to listen, to win, to shine, to rain, to run, to happen, to sign. 4. to drop, to grope, to mope, to pop, to cope, to develop, to stop, to hope. 5. to see, to deny, to die, to sigh, to agree, to be, to lie, to fly, to tie, to flee.

N.B. Parmi ces verbes, sont accentués sur la seconde syllable : to excite, to admit, to invite, to prefer, to occur, to appear, to develop, to deny, to agree. Les autres verbes polysyllabiques de l’exercice sont accentués sur la première syllabe. C Mettre à la forme interrogative, puis à la forme négative (avec les contractions) : 1. Bill and Peter are on friendly terms. 2. Her brother plays the piano. 3. The policeman caught the thief. 4. Patricia has been waiting for them for a long time. 5. Their children can speak Italian. 6. John has got a tape recorder. 7. Your English friend would have understood the play. 8. His wife often goes to London. 9. The tourists were tired. 10. Mr and Mrs Williams like Paris.

11. Fred does the washing-up. 12. Their daughter is good at mathematics. 13. Wendy’s English pen friend has answered her letter. 14. His brother can swim. 15. That would be too expensive. 16. Dad will be pleased. 17. The neighbours have bought a new car. 18. The policeman would have helped them. 19. John’s wife can drive. 20. The audience had been disappointed.
