Transonic

THE STORY The Transonic is the culmination of years of aero engineering in the A2 Wind Tunnel that first yielded Fujiâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Track Elite, then Norcom Staight; then Transonic: the epitome of all knowledge gained and lessons learned channeled into an aero road bike. The Transonic is a no-compromise pursuit of speed with control, achieved through optimum stiffness and stable steering geometry. In addition to athlete feedback, Fuji integrates mechanic feedback into all of its products; and the Transonic is the latest to exemplify one of the brandâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s overriding goals: to design bikes that are easy-to-service and user-friendly. Fuji was one of the first in the industry to position a direct-mount brake on the seatstays instead of under the chainstay, where it is extremely challenging to set up and service and impossible to adjust in a race situation. Fuji worked directly with Shimano to modify their front brake design and apply it to a rear seatstay position, where it affords both mechanics and riders easy access for adjustments and wheel changes.

THE STORY The SL was born out of the quest to create one of the lightest bikes in the world – a machine weight weenies dream of – by building off an already grand tour-winning design and making it that much better. When every gram matters, ingenuity follows: Through High Compaction molding, reduction of bonded joints, flattened sections of high-tensile strength carbon throughout the frame, and cleverly engineered injection-molded cable stops, the SL frameset shaves off 237 grams from the 2015 Altamira – savings that are double the numbers most competitors boast of their next-generation, lightweight, carbon road bike. And not only is the SL significantly lighter, it’s significantly stiffer: 9% stiffer in the head tube, 11 % stiffer in the bottom bracket, and 18% stiffer in the fork. In total, the SL raw frame comes in at a staggering 695g, with the complete bike 1.1 weighing in at under 11 lbs.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

• 1 series frames are constructed of Fuji’s

top-of-the-line C15 carbon, which utilizes High Compaction (HC) molding: a series of internal molds that eliminate wrinkles and excess resin buildup in high-stress, complex radius bend areas (i.e. the head tube, bottom bracket, and seat tube area) for greater compaction in the carbon layers; the payoff is a lighter, stiffer, more durable frame with an interior as finished as the exterior and a more resilient, lively ride quality.

• Fork also uses HC molding – especially beneficial in the fork crown – and a reinforcing rib (a patented technology from Fuji’s carbon manufacturer called Reinforced I-Beam or RIB technology) runs the length of the fork blades, amplifying stiffness for razor-sharp steering precision.

• Like the Transonic, head tube angle and

fork offset were carefully chosen to be within the optimal range of trail – adjusted throughout the size range – to ensure stable steering and confidence-inspiring handling.

• Each frame size uses unique carbon layups and tube diameters, as a 46cm rider does not require the same stiffness a 61cm rider needs.

• Downtube is octagonal in shape, featuring

flattened sections of carbon that enable Fuji to use ultra high-tensile strength carbon that is compromised if not used in flat orientations; seat tube, top tube, and fork also feature flattened sections of high-tensile strength carbon, which maximize lateral stiffness.

• Frame features only four bonded joints –

weight and increase ride comfort through controlled flex over rougher terrain; the stays absorb the maximum amount of road vibration and supply greater compliance.

VALIDATION Team Caja Rural-Seguros RGA will debut the SL at the 2015 Vuelta a España, the race where Fuji won its first grand tour back in 2011 after launching its Altamira and where Fuji’s new pro continental squad has consistently achieved success. Targeting the Vuelta’s most grueling mountain stages, Caja Rural’s esteemed climbers look forward to having a new weapon at their disposal. After his first test ride, Caja Rural’s Eduard Prades reported, “The first sensation was of lightness, agility…of being able to handle the bike without difficulties. While climbing, I noticed how easy it was to apply power to the pedal. In a long climb, you will notice the difference due to its lightness and rigidity. Altamira

THE STORY The Altamira was named after Cantabria, Spain’s prehistoric 35,000-year-old Altamira caves filled with Paleolithic drawings – especially Bison. Upon discovery, the caves were deemed the earliest example of human development and creative expression. THE STORY Three years in the making, the Norcom Straight was launched under the mantra: Fit Comes First. It was developed in the A2 Wind Tunnel to be one of the fastest bikes in the world. But more importantly, it was designed to offer more positioning options than any other superbike on the market; Fuji believes that the more adjustability available, the more easily a rider is able to dial-in their best, most aerodynamic position – one that doesn’t constrict their lungs or compromise their hip flexors, allows them to find their optimal level of comfort, and, therefore, increases their efficiency and speed. Fuji also set out to improve on its previous TT/Tri model, the D-6. Wind tunnel results revealed a 16% aerodynamic improvement across the yaw angle sweep over the D-6, as well as 26% stiffer bottom bracket. Another significant objective was for the Norcom to be mechanic-friendly. THE STORY Fuji began its quest to produce the fastest cross-country hardtail on the market with the introduction of the SLM in 2009 and saw early success when Fuji-sponsored athlete Annika Langvad won back-toback Marathon World Championships aboard it in 2010 and 2011. Fit is more important than wheel size, so let’s take away the wheel conversation.
