AGE 43 JOB Teacher at Pleasant Grove Elementary WORKOUT SPOT 44 Crossfit FITNESS ATTRACTION I like how I feel when I exercise consistently. I want to be as strong and functional as I can at whatever age. BIG WIN Every year in crossfit, there’s a hero workout of the day we do on special occasions called Murph. It’s a special workout named after a fallen soldier, and for the past two years I’ve done it on Memorial Day at our gym. This year, I was able to complete the workout eight minutes faster than last year. MOTIVATION Crossfit workouts are varied and I never get bored or in a routine. I am also motivated because my coaches care and will call me out if I miss more than a few days!

ANN SIMMS (middle) AGE: 52 JOB Instructional Tutor at Pleasant Grove Elementary WORKOUT SPOT 44 Crossfit FITNESS ATTRACTION My main focus is to build strength in my arthritic spine and to control high blood pressure associated with Polycystic Kidney Disease. The bonus is realized in improvements in my overall fitness level related to strength and stamina. BIG WIN I competed in my first Crossfit Open in February 2017. It’s a 5-week competition with athletes across the country. The workout is judged at your gym and scores submitted weekly. I placed second of 34 women in my age group in the scaled division in Kentucky. MOTIVATION My motivation comes from the overall feeling that I’m taking charge of my health. I’m doing all I can to maintain a body that I’m depending on to get me through many more years. Sure, there are days when I’m just “not feeling it,” but I promise you that I’ve never left a workout wishing that I had stayed home.
