people. It’s mainly after the festivals that it kicks off. We go through the festival site in large groups and grab things like tents, sleeping bags, tinned food, roll mats and beer! It all gets sorted out, packed up and sent to places that are a lot less fortunate. It’s a good feeling. What festivals have you been to with the job?

Men still earn more T

he gender pay gap in the financial sector is more than twice the national average, according to a study. Despite the fact that there is an equal number of men and women working in finance, a report by the Equality and Human Rights Commission found there are pay gaps of up to 60 per cent. Women working full-time in fund management, stock broking and futures trading earn 60 per cent less than

men. And among the highest earners, the pay gap for fulltime hourly gross earnings comes to 45 per cent. The gaps in incentive pay and the general pay gaps show the extent to which women hold lower status, lower paying jobs in the financial sector.

ON THE JOB

I’ve done Latitude and Reading – and through those have made contacts and done more. I’ve seen Rage Against The Machine, Metallica, Pennywise and White Stripes.

Getting to see so many bands and then collecting all the stuff and sending it to a good home after the festival.

So, why did you want to become a green messenger at UK festivals?

I was looking for a fun and cheap way to see as many bands/festivals as I could. What does the job involve?

Public sector pay rises will continue into 2011 after the government backed previous agreements. NHS staff, teachers and police officers will all see previous deals fulfilled, despite fears the government would renege.

TACKLES YOUR CAREER DRAMAS

I work in a kitchen and burnt my hand quite badly at work. I’ve lost income because of the accident as I haven’t been able to work. Can I claim compensation? You might be able to claim for general or special damages. There are various avenues you can take if you want to make a claim, such

as using a claims assessor or taking legal action. You should have told your employer about the accident and make sure it’s recorded in the accident book. It’s a good idea to take photos of the accident scene too. If you were partly to blame, that might affect the amount of damages you receive.

PUBLIC SECTOR WINS

Employers are having trouble recruiting science, technology, engineering and maths candidates. There is a growing trend of employers lacking basic numerical skills, so there is a growing demand for these types of graduates.

Every up has its down. If you put 80,000 people in a field for five days and throw in some British rain, you can’t avoid a small mud bath. But if you don’t mind getting a bit grubby, you’ll have tonnes of fun while doing a good thing for the planet.
