WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT “WORRYING” “Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?” This verse in Matthew 6:27, says if you are not as tall as you desire, which of you by being anxious or worried, can add one cubit to your height? You will not grow taller by worrying about it! The Bible condemns worry. In Philippians 4:6 it says. “Be careful for nothing” “In nothing be anxious”. Many today live with sleepless night, headaches, stomach ulcers and nervous break-downs. First of all, if the situation is one which can NOT be remedied, ACCEPT IT! Move on and stop fretting! Second, if the situation is one which CAN be remedied, again, stop the fretting - WORK AND GET BUSY to help the situation! (1) FORGET THE PAST - Paul said in Philippians 3:13, “This none thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before…” Paul put his mistakes behind him and pressed forward to a brighter future. Learn from the past mistakes, get forgiveness of them, and then forget them. (2) LIVE ONE DAY AT A TIME - This is the only way we can live. It is a mistake to live in either the past or the future. Jesus said in Matthew 6:34, “Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” Life becomes unbearable if you try to lump it together all at once. (3) ACCEPT SELF - “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). Worry is not an outside problem, it is an inside job. The right mental outlook will give contentment in spite of handicaps or what we do not have. (4) ACCEPT GOD - Worry boils down to a lack of faith. Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Read of God’s promises: Matt. 6:33, Phil. 4:19, 1 Pet. 5:, Philippians 4:7 says, “The peace of God which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”.
