National awards for CIPD branches The efforts of volunteers on the Guernsey (pictured top) and Jersey (pictured bottom) committees of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development have been recognised by the national organisation. The island branches have become one of very few nationally to receive the showcase volunteer network certificate. Current Guernsey branch chairwoman Caroline Shakerley said the recognition was ‘definitely a team award’ and highlighted her predecessor Janine Lane’s work and leadership on the committee.

The award was presented by Cheryl Myles, head of branch development at the CIPD. As an occasional visitor to the islands she said that she had been struck with how active the Guernsey branch was and how it was able to spread its expertise and knowledge beyond the HR community and direct to local business leaders through its various efforts. ‘That for me is the thing which makes them showcase,’ she said. The CIPD defines its ‘showcase’ awards as recognising volunteers ‘who deliver something exceptional, and who went over and above usual expectations in their volunteer activities’.
