The visual arts are well represented elsewhere in the city. UND displays its collections on a rotating basis in space at the Empire Arts Center downtown. Downtown also has several private galleries and artist studios. Those who want to work in clay will find Muddy Waters Clay Center, classes, hands-on experience and shopping opportunities year around.

The Empire Theatre in downtown Grand Forks is a venue for a wide range of performance, from stage shows to symphony concerts and films. The historic Firehall Theatre is home to Greater Grand Forks Community Theater. East Grand Forks has its performance arts center, too, and it showcases talent of many kinds: Celtic, cowboy, classical. The North Dakota Ballet Company has classes for all ages and regular performances. Dance etc! provides classes in jazz, tap, ballet and hip hop. Dancers perform at two yearly recitals and at special events throughout the community. n
