There are a variety of specialty targets in addition to the 108mm Standard targets. These include 90mm MIDI targets, 60mm MINI targets, rabbits that roll and bounce on edge, battues that arc, and rockets which are heavy and maintain speed. In addition, the presentation of the targets vary. It is the variety of targets, target presentations, course layouts and terrain that many find so enjoyable about Sporting Clays.

Sporting Clays is played over a course that may feature varying terrain with several different target presentations from different locations with varying flight paths. It is played on a course made up of stations, with each station featuring a shooting stand from which the participant shoots. Upon the shooter’s call, targets are released in a variety of ways.

Jack Nicklaus took advantage of the High Sonoran Desert setting to integrate strategy, variety and fair shot values into his Signature golf course at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain. With his first Tucson golf course in 25 years, the famed Golden Bear designed 27 holes, each a par 36 that presents unique challenges and distinct character, blending naturally among noble saguaros that stand together along the surrounding Tortolita Mountain Range. The elite desert venue, where elevation ranges from 2,300 to 3,000 feet, offers incredible views of the mountain ranges that surround the greater Tucson area. Golfers can reenact the shot-making of today’s legendary players, just as Nicklaus envisioned, and fine-tune their game at the comprehensive, 12-acre practice facility. The Golf Club at Dove Mountain also is home to a 45,000-square-foot clubhouse, offering full-service locker rooms at golf shop with a selection of premium-merchandise and rental equipment.
