The most beautiful spring stories S ome travel rarely, some from time to time, and some simply can't get enough. We definitely belong to the third group, where the appetites of those who travel grow even more with every trip they go on. It is time to take your passport on a walk, especially now, when the warm spring days are ahead of us. In this issue of the magazine we once again bring you an abundance of ideas to create your own travel stories. Increased spending by tourists in Croatia

On February 6, 2018, the results of the "Attitudes and Expenditures of Tourists in Croatia - TOMAS Summer 2017" survey, conducted by the Institute for Tourism were presented at the Croatian Ministry of Tourism. In comparison to 2014, when the survey was last conducted, the average daily expenditure of tourists grew by about 19 percent and totals 79 euro per person and per night. On average, guests from the USA, Great Britain, Spain, Russia, and Scandinavian countries spent the most. Although vacations at the sea were the main motive to come to Croatia for more than half the visitors, gastronomy and active vacations have a growing significance in choosing Croatia as a destination. The main source of information is the internet, and the highest rated categories in Croatia are beautiful nature and landscapes, kind staff in accommodation units, and personal safety.

Volotea, Germania and Adria Airways: New lines towards Croatia Lufthansa introducing a Frankfurt - Zadar line

Lufthansa is adding a new destination to its global map, and as of summer 2018, it will fly to another top destination in Croatia. After Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, and Pula, as of April 28, 2018, Lufthansa's airplanes will depart from Frankfurt to Zadar. An Airbus A319 will connect Frankfurt with the northern Dalmatian coast every Saturday and Sunday. Besides enabling tourists to visit the Croatian coast, the new line also offers people from Zadar and the surrounding area a direct connection with more than 200 destinations worldwide. 8

Croatia is also one of the key destinations for Volotea, the low-cost Spanish airline, which is confirmed by the 44 percent increase of seats offered by that airline towards Croatian destinations in 2018. There are six new lines, while two more will also connect France and Croatia - on the Nice-Split, and Nantes-Pula line. German airline Germania has also shown interest in Croatia, and has introduced a regular line from Toulouse to Dubrovnik this year. The Slovenian airline, Adria Airways, will also introduce a new line that will connect Ljubljana with the island of Brač twice a week, as of April 27, 2018.

easyJet introducing a new summer line to Split The low-cost British airline company EasyJet is introducing a new SplitVenice line to Croatia. The new line will transport passengers twice a week - on Mondays and Saturdays from June 14 to September 1, 2018, while from July 21 to September 1, 2018, it will be supplemented by another flight every week - on Saturdays. The other EasyJet lines to Croatia this year are from Pula to Liverpool, London Southend, and Milan, and from Zadar to Berlin, as well as from Dubrovnik to London Southend and Venice. Source:

Croatia seventh in the world for investing in tourism

The first edition of the Global Tourism Locations of the Future 2017/2018 report, issued by fDi Magazine, part of The Financial Times, the leading British financial publication, placed Croatia at the high seventh place of destinations with the greatest potential for investment in tourism. Amongst 43 travel destinations worldwide, Croatia also got a special Editor's Choice Award as one of the countries with the most advancements in the area of improving tourist infrastructure, accommodations, initiatives for developing tourism, and for investing in hotels and the cruising segment of nautical tourism, and it was also highlighted as a destination for film tourism. According to a survey conducted by the Croatian Ministry of Tourism, a total of 940 million euro will be invested in Croatian tourism in 2018.

Croatia - the world's top destination for bareboat charters During a round table of the Croatian Employer's Association - Nautical Sector Association on February 23, 2018, where the effects of legislative changes on the nautical sector were discussed, it was said that Croatia is the world's top destination for bareboat charters. In 2017, there were 879 charter companies in Croatia with 4018 active yachts and board, which achieved 75,884 rentals, with 478,971 tourists. Last year, 18,211 arrivals of foreign yachts and boats were also recorded, of which approximately seven thousand needed to moor during the peak season. Harbors reaped revenue of 769 million kuna.

Europe is turning to health and medical tourism more and more because in it, it sees the chance to make up for the fall of international tourist arrivals in Europe due to the increase of arrivals in some other areas - pointed out Zdeslav Radović, founder and director of the HTI Conference, at the 8th HTI Conference on March 1, 2018. The HTI (Health Tourism Industry) Conference gathered 350 participants from 50 countries worldwide, including representatives of some of the strongest international consumers and buyers, organizers of health tourism trips, and insurance companies. There was also word, amongst other things, on the designing of health tourism strategies for EU members, and the 2nd EHTI Leaders' Summit and "Buy Croatia - Health Tourism" gatherings were held there as well.

The "Dubrovnik - Respect the City" project was presented In February 2018, a strategic project by Dubrovnik's city administration, "Dubrovnik - Respect the City", which brings a three-year action plan with the aim of sustainable development and managing Dubrovnik as a travel destination in line with all significant factors, was presented in the city. The project will unite the strategy for developing tourism, the plan for managing the historical center and other strategic documents, and it consists of short-term and long-term goals, or initiatives for solving the challenges the city faces on a daily basis. That could be the recipe for a fantastic travel product with a somewhat romantic name "History on a grain of salt", which will be offered in its entirety as of March 2019 in Ston, a medieval town in the south of Croatia. However, there is no reason you shouldn't visit it sooner because Ston has an abundance of interesting stories.

A little town of global importance Did you know that Ston is the guardian of global heritage? There, in southern Croatia, where the Pelješac peninsula connects to the mainland, you will find the home of the oldest active salt works in Europe, possibly in the world, and the largest preserved salt works in the history of the Mediterranean. The Romans were the first to start exploiting and harvesting that "white gold", and today, in an equally natural and traditional way - with the help of the sea, the sun, and the wind, sea salt and fleur de sel is still produced there. So Ston, along with Dubrovnik, was the strategically most important city of the former Republic of Dubrovnik, since salt, as a monopolized product, brought in a 1/3 of the revenue. The Ston salt works have 58 pools, divided into five groups, since the entire salt production process has to go through five phases, and it takes a month or two, depending on the weather. There are nine crystallization pools, which bear the names of saints: Francis, Nicholas, Balthazar, Anthony, Joseph, John, Peter and Paul, with the exception of one named Mundo (world). During the Republic of Dubrovnik, another two pools with a granite base, Blaise and Lazarus, were used to extract the cleanest salt that was then sent to the Viennese court. The salt works produce around two thousand tons of salt annually.

The harvesting and salt production season lasts from April to October.

Visit the Ston salt works and buy organic salt and fleur de sel. The salt works are open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM in the summer and from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the winter.

The "History on a grain of salt" project, worth 61.6 million Croatian kuna, is mostly financed with the assistance of EU funds.

The second longest wall in the world To protect the largest natural salt works (located at the base of the Ston channel) from possible attacks from land, during the 14th and 15th century, impressive monumental walls with towers were built, modeled after Dubrovnik's famous walls. With a length of 5.5 km and a height that ranges from five to ten meters, they are convincingly the longest in Europe, and the second longest in the world (right after the Great Wall of China!). They have two entrances and one exit, and consist of the Ston and Little Ston wall, the Great Wall, along with 41 towers and six bastions. The wall offers an enchanting view of the Ston salt works. If just one of its tiny grains of salt there could talk, it would tell you the grand story of that area with a tumultuous past. But that is why today the locals, aware of the great value of the cultural and historical heritage they have in their area, tell the growing number of visitors about their past, and invest special effort in its renovation, facilities, and enrichment with new programs and content to make it even more attractive to tourists. The Veliki Kaštio fortress has already been opened for visitors with a new look, and by March 2019, you will also be able to tour a part of the Koruna fortress. In mid-June of this year, you will be able to walk on the revitalized Ston portion of Napoleon's trail, and by the beginning of this year's main tourism season, you will also be awaited by the southern portion of the Ston walls, which will then be in their full glory. This summer, make sure to also tour the abundant, expanded collection at the Ston Lapidarium, and then gather your thoughts and relax under the tree canopies at Komarda Park, which will shine a new horticultural shine. Pop into the new exhibition spaces at Natura Dalmatia, where you can buy homemade products with the enticing flavors and aromas of that part of Croatia. Take some time to tour the "Pelješac - Empire of Wine" thematic trail, and there is also a new brochure of the same name with useful information to help you find your way on the trail. As of June 2019, your stay in Ston will be additionally enhanced with new attractive programs and travel tours. Here we bring you more information about the novelties... The Veliki Kaštio fortress, located in the southeastern part of Ston, was the first line of defense from the sea for the city and the salt works. Although it used to be part of the city walls, today it proudly stands on its own, reminding passersby of its important role in the past. The sturdy fortress, which has walls of up to four meters thick in some parts, was the headquarters of the military government and was one of the most important buildings on the entire peninsula. Its top floor offers a magnificent view of the Ston salt works, which you will be able to see for yourself. Besides being taken on an exciting cultural and historical journey through the former Republic of Dubrovnik and Pelješac, you can also enjoy various cultural and touristic delights in the unique ambiance of the fortress.

The Koruna fortress is to Mali Ston what Veliki KaĹĄtio is to Ston and its salt works. Koruna is an integral part of the wall that surrounds the town, and was used to monitor the surrounding hills and the hinterland, the wagon trail, and Tabor, where salt was traded. However, besides having just a monitoring function, Koruna was also the center of defense for Mali Ston against enemies and ruthless pirates. So, it acted as military barracks, and if the town was attacked, it was a shelter for the locals. As of March 2019, a newly renovated area there will welcome you with plenty of interesting content.

The Ston lapidarium It is truly a joy to walk through the Ston lapidarium that will, just like in a time machine, take you back in time to Roman times. The incredibly valuable archeological collection, which is actually the outdoor exhibit of the Archeological Museum of the Dubrovnik Museum, preserves stone pieces of furniture and equipment, which came from the workshops of stone masons in the southern Dalmatia area. The main stars of the collection are 6th century frescos with motifs of fish scales, which come from the Early Christian church of St. Mary Magdalene, and the 11th century relief with the depiction of a person with a crown on their head from St. Michael's church. The ruins of the Church of Our Lady from the 9th century are also valuable. The lapidarium is located on the main floor of the former Bishop's palace, in the main city street. The newly renovated lapidarium has become home to an even larger archeological and valuable sacral collection, which is worth a visit.

Down the path of the famous Napoleon Have you ever asked yourself where the army of famous French military leader Napoleon went? Amongst other places, to PeljeĹĄac! In the 19th century, the Napoleon trail was built there and today a network of educational walking and cycling trails that lead you to natural attractions and cultural sites, ten of which have been protected as cultural heritage sites, follow that path. There you will see historical buildings from Napoleon's time, and if you head a little off course, you will also see other witnesses of ancient history and archeological sites. Ston's renewed part of Napoleon's trail attracts equal numbers of walkers, cyclists, and adventurers.

The southern wall When four towers and part of the wall (built from 1407 to 1417, during the Republic of Dubrovnik), adding up to 130 meters in total, collapsed in 1905, not only was the unique Ston wall complex disrupted, but the city landscape was also ruined. In 1951, part of the southern wall was renewed, and now the renovation and completion of the remaining part is nearly finished, and it will tell its story starting in the main tourism season in 2018. At the foot of the wall, there is a triangular park, which is shaded in the hot days under canopies of elm and plane trees. It will await you this summer with a new horticultural design, and offer you rest and refreshment.

For the modern tourist The locals will enhance the newly renewed cultural and historical heritage with new tourist facilities that will tell the story of Ston in an interesting and innovative way. Amongst them are two programs with intriguing names: "Cum grano salis" and "The Secrets of Ston". The "Cum grano salis" drama performance will take you through Ston's history, and the lead actress is salt. You will find out everything about that queen of Ston - how it was produced, harvested, and transported, how they protected it by building impressive walls, and how Dubrovnik's traders traded it worldwide. It will be on the program twice a week, from June to September, within the sturdy walls of the Veliki Kaštio fortress, located right next to the Ston salt works. A special experience will be the night time ambiental-theatrical tour of Ston's attractions, "The Secrets of Ston".

As its name says, it will take you on an exciting tour of Ston and Mali Ston, which will reveal stories, legends, and less known interesting facts about the city and its attractions - the Veliki Kaštio, Koruna, and Podzvizd fortresses, the Rector's palace, Bishop's palace, Main Guard, Placa, cathedral, and the salt works, and you will also see the dramatic depiction of how to farm shellfish, primarily oysters. During the tour, several famous people from Ston's past will come alive, from late Ancient times, the Nemanjić and Kotromanić dynasties, all the way to the Republic of Dubrovnik. You will get to know characters tied to the daily life of Ston, and the interesting thematic tour will end with local wine and delicious delicacies, which you will nibble on as you enjoy the performances of local cultural societies. The tour will take place three times per week, also from June to September, starting in 2019.

On Ston's table You must be hungry by now. After a tour of the cultural treats, it is time to sit down at the table with the locals and taste the food that has positioned Ston at the top of the world of gastronomy. Oysters, seashells that true gourmets yearn for, definitely take first place on Ston's food map. Especially if you know that they come from the Mali Ston Bay, where ancient Romans first started farming them. Ston's chefs prepare them in various creative ways in the city taverns and restaurants, and most often serve them as an appetizer, unveiling Ston's gourmet rhapsody in a way. Still, experienced locals from Ston will tell you that oysters are tastiest when they are freshly harvested from the sea, raw, and drizzled with a few drops of lemon juice. You can try them prepared in such a way at many of Ston's events, and those queens of Ston's table has an entire event in their honor, the Mali Ston Oyster Day (March 17, 2018). It is a great opportunity to, in one place, try them prepared in various ways - in soup, roasted, deep-fried, fried, in risotto, with pasta... The locals say that oysters are the tastiest in mid-March, around St. Joseph's Day. Round off the gourmet experience with renowned Pelješac wine, sparkling red or white wine, which pairs best with oysters.

Ston's summer consists of many events in the summer months - from a folk dance revue and International Festival of Brass Band Orchestras to Wine Night, White Night, Klapa Evenings, the Festival of Salt, and Kinookus Film Food Festival. Michelin stars have arrived in Šibenik and Dubrovnik

The restaurants Pelegrini (Šibenik) and 360º (Dubrovnik) have each received a Michelin star, while the list of restaurants recommended by Michelin has expanded with 24 new restaurants. That is the result of a secret tour of Croatian restaurants by professional Michelin inspectors who toured restaurants all over Croatia during 2017. The new Croatian guide has been published on the website of Michelin, the globally most significant and most renowned restaurant guide. After this selection, Croatia has a total of three restaurants with Michelin stars and 55 restaurants recommended by Michelin.

This summer season, Croatia Airlines is introducing new direct international flights between Dublin and Zagreb, which will fly twice a week (Thursdays and Sundays) from May 3 to October 28, 2018. Other novelties include direct flights between Munich and Dubrovnik, Copenhagen and Split, and Zagreb and Mostar. Whichever trail you choose, whether it runs next to the sea, or to the heart of the island, you won’t go wrong. Rent a bike and explore the beauty of Korčula, its hidden villages and island settlements full of cultural delights and incredible natural beauty on two wheels. Stop by to visit some locals and try the superb local wine and seafood dishes. Make sure to take your camera with you because you will pass by enchanting views, picturesque vineyards, and pretty panoramas. A great way to tour Marco Polo's city from another perspective is by kayaking, which is growing in popularity. Row to the pearly white island beaches near the city of Korčula or to hidden coves in good company, and enjoy the natural wellness treatments. sugared almonds, and other desserts. A good reason to come to Korčula are its many events and festivals. Be there in the Holy Week (March 23 - April 4, 2018) and see the magnificent processions. There will also be a procession of the brotherhoods on Corpus Christi (May 31, 2018). In late April (April 28, 2018), as has already become tradition, Korčula will be in the sign of the Marco Polo Challenge, where (recreational and all interested) participants will compete in swimming (1,500 m), cycling (40 km), and running (10 km). It is a fantastic chance to enjoy nature, but also to socialize with participants from Croatia and the rest of the world. A newer, tastier event, Korčulanske pjatnace (Spring Food and Wine Festival), will be held from April 27 to May 4, 2018. At that spring festival of food and wine, chefs from Korčula's famous restaurants will take guests on an exciting gourmet journey. They find inspiration in the sea and island gardens, and bring together traditional and modern on a plate, which results in creative, delicious Dalmatian dishes that are offered at popular prices at that time. fter enjoying the beauty of the city of Korčula and its surroundings, continue actively exploring the island that shares its name. Head over to its western coast, to the renowned Vela Luka, a famous destination for tourism and outdoor activities. Set out on one of its four walking trails (of various lengths, from 1 to 10 kilometers), or explore the area by bicycle - there are four cycling circuit trails at your disposal, with a total length of 60 km. Count on stopping every so often because beautiful panoramas of the sea and surrounding islands will pop up in front of you, and you will also pass by old olive groves, vineyards... If you plan on staying in Vela Luka in the summer months, spice it up with one of the many events. Every Tuesday

during July and August, there will be performances by the Kumpanija and Mafrina folk dance groups and klapa groups. Enjoy the Vela Luka Jazz Festival in the first week of August, where famous jazz musicians from Croatia and abroad will perform. In mid-August, visit Vela Spila, when the entire week will be dedicated to that important prehistoric archeological site, and you can find out what life looked like there 20 thousand years ago through lectures, exhibitions, and the Vela Spila night. An adventurous spirit will take over Vela Luka from September 7 to 9, 2018, when Vela Luka Outdoors, days dedicated to adventure tourism, will be held. Continue on towards the heart of the island, and seven kilometers later you will be in Blato, which is a place special for many things. Explore it by bike or on foot with a light stroll, and sweeten up your stay with the famous Blato Lumblija, a traditional cake that will tell you the story of a great and unforgettable love. The locals traditionally dedicate the entire month of October to it, when the Days of the Blato Lumblija are held, where you can also see an exhibition dedicated to that dessert. Make sure to try it, and you will also have to chance to find out the recipe and to try your hand at making it yourself. Locals even compete in making it, and so the best Blato Lumblija of 2018 will also be chosen. Still, there is no reason not to come to Blato a lot sooner. Zagreb cathedral T

he cathedral in Zagreb is the largest sacral building in Croatia and one of the symbols of the city; its full name is the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Stephen and Ladislaus. It was built in the neo-Gothic style, 77 meters long, and 46 meters wide. It proudly stands on Kaptol, in Zagreb's historic center, and it is recognizable for its two tall spires. In the past, at the site of the presentday cathedral, there was a church that the Tatars destroyed in the 13th century, after which the construction of the new church started. It too was unfortunately struck by poor fate, and nearly destroyed by two fires in the 17th century. That was followed by a strong earthquake in 1880 that destroyed the cathedral's arches, altars, and floors, and damaged the one bell tower it had at the time. According to designs by Viennese architect F. Schmidt, and under the watchful eye of Hermann Bollé, the architect who led the construction and renewed Zagreb after the earthquake, the cathedral was renovated in the neo-Gothic style and received its present-day appearance, with two spires, new altars, a tomb for Zagreb's archbishops behind the main altar... In the center of the apse, right behind the main altar, is the tomb of the Blessed Alojzije Stepinac, Archbishop and Cardinal of Zagreb. 

with... Then head on to Hlebine, the birthplace of Croatian folk art. Yes, that small place is the home of great art, unique in the world, and it all started with the Hlebine painting school, characteristic for the art of painting glass with oil paints using a special technique, which has been protected as Croatian intangible cultural heritage. Head down Gallery Route, and tour the galleries, but make sure to stop by Hlebine Gallery and the Josip Generalić family estate, along with the estate of painter Stjepan Pongrac, and try your hand at painting on glass. After Hlebine, head on to Legrad, the place that the impulsive Drava moved to Podravina from Međimurje in 1710. Visit the local churches and Legradska hiža, watch birds at the ornithological reserve, celebrate the feast day of St. Ana with a boat ride to Hungary... Legrad is also a place where important routes cross - it is where the Drava Route bike trail starts, and the Tour de Mur ends. The EuroVelo (Iron Curtain route), Cycle in Network route, and the cultural Zrinski-Suleyman route also pass through it.

It should all be washed down with homemade wine or home-brewed bear. The winemaking tradition is firmly imbedded in the lives of the people living in that winegrowing region, and the hardworking hands of Bilogora's locals care for the fruitful vines that have been there since Roman times.

In the wine cellars on the Daruvar and Bilogora wine roads, try Bilogora Graševina, Rhine Riesling, Traminac, Sauvignon... The best of the Bjelovar-Bilogora area - green landscapes, active tourism, and an abundant spread of food and drinks - can all be seen at the unique cycling and food event "The Green Treasures of Bilogora" (April 14-15, 2018). DanceStar One of the best-known and most-recognized dance competitions in the world, DanceStar, is coming to Croatia. reen hills with picturesque old towns surrounded by vineyards and centuries-old olive groves, which are embraced by the sun for the majority of the year, are the first things you will see when you head out to explore the interior of the Istrian peninsula. It will soon become clear why they call that area the "Croatian Tuscany". Although every hill has a story of its own, the one you will discover in Brtonigla, a town in northwestern Istria, is truly special, and it could be briefly described as "4 soils - 4 wines". The town sits on four different kinds of soil that represent all the different kinds of soil found in Istria, and the delicious grapes ripening in the vineyards growing on each of the four types of soil result in the different, but superb and renowned Istrian Malvazija. In the area surrounding Brtonigla, there are five winemakers that produce more

than 10 percent of the total Istrian production of wine, and some of them can boast a tradition that dates way back to 1903. Brtonigla rightfully gained the title of "city of wine" and "wine mecca", but it hasn’t stopped there. water sports, or an abundance of events, visit the island in the summer. However, if you would like to totally relax, enjoy its beauty without disruption, and rejuvenate yourself, visit Rab in the

spring. That is when the island is at its most peaceful, the sea is calm, and the temperatures are pleasant, sometimes even reaching summer temperatures. Soon, it will become clear why they call Rab the happy island. The sun, aroma of Mediterranean plants, and fresh sea air will motivate you to get moving. The island is crisscrossed with a network of trails, so you can walk, run, cycle, hike... If you are in better shape, head down the trail that will take you to the highest peak of the island, Kamenjak. The trail is twenty kilometers long, and it leads from the Mišnjak dock on the south of the island to Lopar on the north. It is ideal for škraping - a combination of climbing, jumping, walking, and running. True, you might work up a sweat, but when you reach the 408 meter-high

Kamenjak peak, you will be awaited by a magnificent view: the Kvarner islands immersed in the blue sea, and a view of the mighty Velebit mountain peaks on the other side. Before heading down to the other side of the island, get some refreshment at the restaurant there. If you prefer more leisurely walks, don't worry - there are about 200 kilometers of promenades, and walking, cycling, and hiking trails on Rab. Many are gentle, and some lead from the center of the main city on the island, Rab. The two Premužić trails are especially attractive. The first is eight kilometers long and leads over the ridge of the island, while the other, 15 kilometers in length, leads from Kampor to the southern coast of Kalifront, all the way to St. Euphemia's cove, meandering through the Dundo Park Forest for a large portion of the route. Once you enter the dense holm oak forest, you will be engulfed by the silence and peace, almost as if you were in another world. Don't make the mistake of heading down the Premužić trails by bike, because they aren't suited for that. However, many other trails are. You can choose from a hundred kilometers of bike trails all over the island. Rab is also one of the stops for a unique race in the world of mountain biking. The 4 Islands MTB Stage Race is held in April, and passes along a 270 kilometer-long trail

through the most beautiful parts of the islands of Rab, Krk, Cres, and Lošinj.

On Lopar's Copacabana Don't miss out on experiencing the sunset in a romantic walk from the town of Lopar to the famous Rajska (Paradise) Beach. It is the largest and most famous of the 22 individual sandy beaches in Lopar. It is a kilometer and a half in length, and it didn't get its flattering name by chance - it famous for being a clean paradise, and has carried the "Blue Flag" for the past 15 years as proof of its quality. Since its appearance is reminiscent of the famous Brazilian Copacabana Beach, a fun Samba Festival is organized on it. The hot rhythms and costumes, and fiery dances, are a sight to see. The Lopar area owes its most magnificent event the Sand Sculpture Festival - to the fine yellow sand found there. During the festival, Lopar's beaches turn into an outdoor gallery that impresses with the imagination and artistic flair of the artists who build sand sculptures there. Before they turn back to piles of sand, take out your camera and make sure to eternalize them in photos. ith the formation of the Skradinski buk limestone barriers, thirteen kilometers of the Krka River were pooled into lakes, and three kilometers of the Čikola River were flooded, which formed the visually most unusual confluence in Croatia. It is made even more special by the Kalički busen isle, a limestone barrier around seven hundred meters in length and only ten meters wide that divides the Krka from the mouth of the Čikola. The confluence can be seen from the road that leads from the Lozovac entrance to Skradinski buk, which is used from April to October by Krka National Park buses to transfer visitors. If while driving from Šibenik you don't head towards Lozovac, but instead head towards Drniš, on the left-hand side of the road, in Krnići Gornji, there is a viewpoint that offers the most beautiful view of the confluence. You can rest there on your way to the next site in the national park, to photograph nature, or simply enjoy the view of the two rivers

embracing one another, and relish the serenity nature brings. Your next destination could be the newly completed Goriš - Torak trail, 2950 meters in length, with a viewpoint that offers a view of the confluence of the Krka and Čikola, and the natural phenomenon on the left bank of the Čikola, just before the beginning of the confluence, Torak - a spring shaped like a lake. Even though it is a spring, due to its round shape it looks like a lake, so they call it a lake spring. It is 150 meters in diameter, 30 meters deep, and the spring itself is located at the bottom of the lake. This karst spring is impressive for its beauty because of its unusual location in the confluence of two rivers, and the characteristic plant life of grasses and shrubs that surround it. The trail itself is divided into two parts, where one leads to the viewpoint, and the other heads down to Torak. While walking down the path the locals used to take to their fields and gardens, you can have an active morning or afternoon, enjoying

the peaceful and personal experiences the Krka National Park has to offer, watching the confluence on one side, while looking for the Ključica fortress on the other, which is reached via the Čikola canyon. The Čikola canyon is characterized by incredibly rugged, impressively shaped cliffs, and inaccessible terrain. In the summer, the river in the canyon almost completely dries up. In tumultuous medieval times, the inaccessible terrain, barren cliffs, grey stone, and harsh winds were the reason Croatian leaders built their strategically important fortresses on the edges of the canyon, from where they could monitor the crossing of the river and easily defend themselves from enemies. the Krka National Park is Ključica, built above the Čikola canyon, and it offers a view of the confluence and Torak. It was built in the 13th century by the mighty Croatian noblemen, Nelipići. Although access to the fortress is not permitted, you can admire it from the Brnjica Čikola canyon trail, which can also be reached from the Šibenik - Drniš road. While heading down that 1450 meter trail to the Čikola River bed, you can enjoy the view of Ključica the entire time, which has stood above stone and under blue skies for centuries. 

The Krka half-marathon, an international sports event that will be held on April 14, 2018 in the Krka National Park, will offer participants a special running ambiance in one of the most beautiful parts of Croatia, surrounded by protected nature and unique cultural and historical heritage. For all those who find the 21.098 km halfmarathon too much of a challenge, there is also a shorter, 5.5 km race. The race will be held in the northern part of the Krka National Park, which is less familiar to the general public, but it is rich with untouched nature and monuments that bear witness to the tumultuous history of that area. The half-marathon trail passes by interesting and beautiful parts of the park, crosses over the Krka River, and ends at a pearl of ancient architecture, Burnum, a Roman military amphitheater. Although the signup deadline has passed, all fans of nature and sports are welcome to come and cheer on the runners and enjoy the beauty of Krka National Park.

n 2017, along with the fortress of St. Nicholas in Šibenik, which we presented to you in the last issue, the defense system of the city of Zadar was also added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as a part of the Venetian Works of Defense between the 16th and 17th centuries. Zadar's medieval walls are around three kilometers long, and they were built in the 16th century by the Venetian Republic to defend the city from the Ottomans. Besides being the military and administrative center of the Adriatic part of the Venetian Republic, Zadar was also an important center on the sailing route between Venice and

Corfu. Its old city center is located on a peninsula encircled by walls with several bastions, and throughout history, a total of thirty gates passed through the walls. Some of them were later closed off (during wars), and today, eight have been preserved. Nowadays, they connect the historical city center with its newer areas. The most attractive gate is the monumental Land Gate, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture, located in the Foša harbor. That gate is one of the most beautiful monuments from the period of the Venetian reign in Dalmatia.

t the age of 13, she became the first winner of the children's talent show "Zvjezdice" ("Little Stars"), and her performance of the song "Listen", originally sung by Beyoncé, has delighted audiences all over the world. With the great support of her parents, Mia Negovetić is recording her first album, performing in a musical, and at the same time manages to be like her peers and look forward to learning, along with every new project in connection with dance and acting, but primarily with music.

Rijeka is the city where you were born and where you live. What makes the city yours? For me, the City of Rijeka is my home. Travelling is wonderful, but I always miss Rijeka, and whenever I return, I am overcome with that familiar feeling that is best described with the phrase: "Home, sweet home". Singing has enabled you to travel through Croatia, but also all over the world at a young age. Does

travelling delight you? What is the best and the worst part of travelling? Of course, I always look forward to travelling and performances because they are always an adventure. Everything is fun, but sometimes I get really tired. That causes sleep deprivation, but it's worth it! Your visit to the American TV show "Little Big Shots" was the reason you first visited the USA. How did you feel about that trip? For me, it was a fantastic experience. I feel it was kind of a guiding light that showed me that I am on the right track and that I have truly achieved great success for my age. I walked through all of Hollywood, went to Beverly Hills, visited streets where famous people live, saw Los Angeles, and visited various studios where films are made. It was truly wonderful.

In a short period of time, you have achieved great musical success and recognition and performed at many concerts and events. Do any of those performances have a special place in your memory?

I remember all of my performances, and every one of them means something to me. The most memorable ones were singing the anthem in front of a huge crowd in Zagreb at the parade to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Oluja military operation, performances in the Zvjezdice and Little Big Shots shows, and two concerts, in Lisinski in Zagreb, and in Opatija. I will remember all those great memories forever. You have a lot of responsibilities related to both your singing career as well as your education. What are your wishes and plans for the future? I would like to just stay the way I am, try to be the best I can be, and let the future guide me in its own way. 

You have also tried your hand at acting, and in the "Magic Musical" show, you play both parts - a singer

and an actress. You sing, dance, and act. Are there any other "hidden talents" you have yet to reveal to us? Yes, that's also another experience that makes me very happy. It is a bilingual musical for children and adults with beautiful songs by Olja Dešić that I fell in love with right away, and produced by Maraton studio and directed by David Petrović. I'm very happy that I have the chance to combine the three things I love most, which are singing, dancing, and acting. I can't wait for March 17, 2018, when we will perform our musical in Zagreb, in Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall. As far as other talents are concerned, I don't know if I have any hidden ones left. Maybe I'll discover them in the future.

In 2016, Mia became part of the history of Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb as the youngest performer to ever have their own solo concert there. UNWTO: Increase of international tourist arrivals in 2017

Berlin's local government announced a new tourism concept for the German capital city with which they would like to attract more tourists to the outskirts, which also have plenty to offer. For years, mass tourism in the center has caused huge crowds and diminished the quality of life of the local population, so the project is trying to introduce a balance between the population, city policy, and the touristic offer. According to data from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the number of inter national tourist arrivals in 2017 grew by a total of 7 percent. Europe and Africa took the lead with 8 percent, followed by Asia and the Pacific with 6 percent, the Middle East with 5 percent, and North, Central, and South America with 3 percent. The increase of tourist traffic was due to global economic growth, and destinations also invested incredible effort in the sustainable development of tourism. The UNWTO expects that the strong growth of tourist arrivals will continue in 2018 and forecasts a growth percentage of between 4 and 5 percent.

4th World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism The fourth World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism will be held this year on Thailand, organized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). From May 30 to June 5, 2018, the leading experts in gastronomy tourism will discuss several topics in Bangkok, including, amongst other things, how to use technological advancements as initiators of sustainable development. There will also be word on the newest trends and challenges that are faced, along with best practices, and there will also be a discussion on intercultural dialogue and gastro diplomacy.

Italy is investing in health tourism Although we most often associate Italy with fantastic gastronomy, culture, fashion, and design, we could soon also associate it with health tourism. Despite the fact that for every 200 thousand Italians that get health care abroad only five thousand so-called health tourists come to Italy, the Italian tourist board has invested a lot of effort in turning the Mediterranean country into a top European destination for health tourism. Tourists who decide to get treatment in Italy mostly come from Russia, Switzerland, and Arabic countries, they spend an average of 20 to 70 thousand euro, and they most often choose highly specialized treatments in neurology, cardiology, oncology, and orthopedics.

New portal for sustainable and responsible tourism presented at the ITB The ECOTRANS network for the development of sustainable tourism is celebrating 25 years of networking at the European and global level, creating policies, and implementing projects for promoting responsible and sustainable tourism. To celebrate that occasion, at the leading international tourism fair ITB Berlin, held on March 8 and 9, 2018, the new website for sustainable and responsible tourism, "Tourism 2030 Sustainable and Responsible Tourism Portal", was presented. Slovenia is introducing an advertising fee From now on, along with the accommodation fee, tourists in Slovenia will also pay an advertising fee. Its amount will be defined by municipalities, and it can equal up to a quarter of the accommodation fee. That means that in the most expensive destinations, a total of 3.125 euro will be paid for fees daily, and they have been introduced so that the Slovenian tourist board can use them to improve the touristic offer in Slovenia and offer tourists better services. Last year, a total of 1.3 million domestic and 3.4 million foreign tourists visited Slovenia, mostly from Germany, Italy, Austria, Croatia, and Serbia. They achieved a total of 12 million overnight stays, and they were primarily short stays.

ITB Berlin 2018 held From March 7 to 10, 2018, representatives of the world tourism sector gathered at the leading international tourism fair, ITB in Berlin, to discuss new, innovative trends and their effects on the travel industry. Along with the challenges faced in the tourism sector and limits that need to be set in regards to the framework of sustainable development, most of the discussion was related to the use of digitalization and artificial intelligence to attract tourists. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of product personalization and an individual approach to every tourist.

Wizz Air is coming to Vienna with 17 new lines Wizz Air, the largest and fastest growing low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, will introduce 17 new lines from Vienna by the end of the year. Austria will become the 44th country in the Wizz Air network, which connects 145 destinations. The first lines will take off in April 2018 for Gdansk, Tuzla, and Varna, followed by flights to Bari, Malta, Rome, Bergen, Dortmund, Kutaisi, Larnaca, Niš, Ohrid, Tenerife, and Salona. The investment is worth 331 million American dollars, and thanks to it, 120 new workplaces will be opened. The starting ticket price for flights is 19.90 euro. March - May 2018

Romantic Venice Although the timeless beauty of the queen of the Mediterranean can be admired at any time of the year, it is most pleasant to ride in the gondolas through the narrow canals of that charming city under the spring sun. As you pass through it, scenes that look as if they are part of a painter's canvas will appear before you - Renaissance and Baroque palaces with picturesque facades, churches from various historical eras, romantic bridges and balconies, and little hidden restaurants, all while gondolas with infatuated couples glide by. They say that while in the birthplace of the famous Casanova you should kiss the one you love while passing under a bridge in a gondola because that guarantees eternal love. Take a walk to St. Mark's Square and the Duke's Palace, and have your picture taken in front of the old, and one of the most beautiful Venetian palaces, Ca' d'Oro, which is called the golden house for its gilded decorations on its façade, and it is located on the Grand Canal, the main city canal. Duck into shops with masks, discover how they are made, which ones are most popular, and the reason they are popular. Stortorget, take a walk down the oldest city street, Köpmangatan, and try to find the narrowest street, Mårten Trotzigs gränd, which is just 90 cm wide at its narrowest point. A hidden corner of Austria

Austria is famous for its many natural attractions and tourist sites, and one of them is Hallstatt, located near the road that leads from Salzburg to Graz. The picturesque town is located on the shore of the lake that shares its name, and is famous for the oldest salt mine in the world, which is why it is considered to be one of the oldest settlements in Europe. Near the mine, there is a large ancient graveyard, which has the unusual custom of digging up the deceased a decade after their death and decorating their skulls. Hallstatt is also home to a Celtic archeological site, known as the Hallstatt culture. Self check-in was first introduced in airports, and recently two Viennese hotels introduced a similar system, a smart robot that answers questions or checks in guests. What time is breakfast? When is check-out time? Guests can ask these and similar questions out loud and quickly get their answers. One of the two Viennese hotels that introduced that system, the "Zeitgeist" hotel, uses a digital receptionist named "Gustaffo". He offers guests all information regarding the hotel, and he can also analyze the questions asked. It is based on the "Alexa" digital system for language recognition. A total of 38 hotels in Europe currently have digital receptionists.

Vienna's Easter fairs to open soon

Whether it is played, danced, or sung, the waltz is an integral part of cultural life in Austria. In Vienna, the New Year is celebrated to the sounds of "The Blue Danube", and a Viennese wedding isn't a wedding without the waltz. Since the 150th anniversary of the first performance of Johann Strauss Jr.'s "The Blue Danube" is being celebrated in Vienna this year, the Viennese orchestra that shares his name sent in a request for the Viennese waltz to be added to UNESCO's list of cultural heritage. The request was supported by 20 relevant institutions, and Austria's UNESCO committee confirmed the inscription.

Starting on March 17, 2018 all the way to Easter Monday, you will find Easter fairs on seven locations in Vienna, with many stands that offer crafts and selected culinary specialties, all accompanied by a music and entertainment program. Approximately 60 exhibitors with Austrian specialties and a large selection of Easter decorations can be found at the fair in front of Schönbrunn Palace. For the youngest visitors, there will be workshops where they can make marzipan Easter symbols or Easter baskets, and go on an egg hunt, while the adults can enjoy the sounds of jazz on the square in front of the palace. As it does every year, Vienna's Freyung Square will house the largest pile of decorated Easter eggs, and the huge Easter egg that the City of Vienna received from Croatia's Koprivnica-Križevci County will also be exhibited, as is tradition. Performances by puppet theaters, wooden toys, and Easter delicacies, such as pinca, egg nog, and ham roasted in bread, are just part of the Easter story on that square.
