Ti-Ahwaga Community Player's Nicky Award Winners
Ti-Ahwaga Community Players 2011 Nicky Award winners Stacey Jo Oropello (Best Supporting Actress), Shawn Yetter (Best Director), and Chris Pellicano (Best Supporting Actor). Not present Andrea Gregori (Best Actress) and Irving Cook (Best Actor).
The Ti-Ahwaga Community Player's annual Nicky Award winners are chosen each July through ballot by its membership. Each member can vote for their favorites from that year's plays. The Nickies are then awarded at the companys' annual picnic, which was held at the Campville Commons in Campville, on July 23. Stacey Jo Oropello took "Best Supporting Actress" with her outstanding performance as Candy in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." Chris Pellicano took "Best Supporting Actor" with his hilarious performance as Mushnik in "Little Shop of Horrors." Andrea Gregori took "Best Actress" with her breathtaking performance as
Maria Callas in "Master Class." Irving Cook took "Best Actor" with his riveting performance as Randal McMurphee in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." And Shawn Yetter took "Best Director" for his superb direction of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." The Ti-Ahwaga Performing Arts Center is a beautiful cabaret-style theater located at 42 Delphine Street in Owego, where fine wines, beers, soft drinks and snacks are available to enjoy at your table during the show, and there isn't a bad seat in the house. The Central New York Firemen’s Association (CNYFA) Hose Race Overall Points winner came down to the final race at last Sunday’s 188th annual firefighter convention held in Hamilton, NY. Nine teams from Central New York fire departments including two Owego teams competed for prize monies, trophies, and bragging rights at the firematic events. Defending Central New York Champions Owego Susquehanna Hose Company #1 was tied with former champions Owego Croton Hose Company #3 heading into the third and final race of the day. Both teams had recorded 1st and 2nd place finishes respectively in the ladder, and wye races for a total of 9 points each. Racing second in the team order the Company #1 team executed a near perfect straight lay race with a time of 19.65 seconds putting the pressure on
Company #3 who raced 4th in the team order. With the championship on the line Company #3 came up short finishing the race in 6th place. Company #1 retained the championship (14 points) with Company #3 (9 points) placing second overall. Owego Fire Chief Ed Franz who hose raced in the 1950s and 1960s congratulated the teams. “The Owego Hose Teams have a long tradition of winning championships dating back to the 1950s. The department takes great pride in our teams,” said Franz, who also noted the races showcase the department across the state. Company #3 team members were Matt Porcari, Mike MacNaughton, Tom Donovan III, Joe Ward, and Nick Jerzak. The races move north to New York Mills next July where the Owego teams are expected to compete again.
Ladies Luncheon Owego Christian Women’s Club will hold a Ladies Luncheon on Wednesday August 17, from 11:30 to 1:30 at the Owego Treadway Inn, Rt 17c Owego.
