Holiday Home Safety

1. Be careful with candles: Nothing kindles the holiday spirit like candles: but those are open flames in your house! If your leaving the house or going to sleep, blow out all the candles first!

2. Protect your kids and pets: Holiday decorations can easily be mistaken for a shiny snack. Keep bite-sized ornaments out of reach and remember that mistletoe, poinsettia and holly berries are toxic. Its best to avoid these if you have kids and pets.

3. Be safe with holiday lights: About 1,300 people are sent to the emergency room every year due to holiday light accidents. Before you plug yours in, check for frayed wires, damaged sockets and broken bulbs. If you find problems, toss the lights.

4: Prepare for grease fires: Your kitchen will probably see lots of action this season and grease can ignite without warning. Keep a fire extinguisher handy, and if you wind up in a pinch, remember that flour and baking soda also squelch grease flames. Water does not!

BUILDING UNIT COHESION THROUGH GROUP RECREATION

Why Unite?

There are so many ways the Unite Program can be used. The main focus of the program is to build unit cohesion. The program can be used to develop a new skill, or competency, improve physical fi tness, increase moral, promote interaction, have fun and so much more!

Goals

1. Support SQ Leaders 2. Maximize use of FSS Facilities 3. Measure Impact 4. Provide maximum fl exibility to SQ commanders

Program Development

1. Ready to Execute (RTE): FSS Related events should be considered fi rst as they are pre-approved and easy to implement. This also keeps funds on the installation. 2. Unit Developed Program (UDP): UDP’s capitalize on opportunities in the local area and require prior approval from the AFSVC. Approval may take up to 30 days. 3. Volunteer/Free: Charitable work provides a cost-eff ective team building activity that allows co-workers to see each other in a new light and can make a real diff erence in your community. Free events do not need approval, but information still needs to be captured.
