The Arizona School Personnel Administrators Association (ASPAA) awarded GESD Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Deby Valadez the ASPAA Administrator of the Year Award. Ms. Valadez received a surprise recognition at the ASPAA Annual “Mining for Diamonds in School Personnel” Conference on Nov. 18 in Prescott.

As a lifelong educator, Ms. Valadez has made a significant impact on public education by ensuring that all students have opportunities to learn and grow. In GESD, we are guided by our motto to be, “All In For All Kids ” and Ms. Valadez is a true champion dedicated to the academic success and social-emotional learning for all students. She radiates kindness and empathy through a warm and positive attitude that is contiguous and uplifting. As a servant leader, she fosters nurturing and empowering working environments for every employee to thrive in their roles. She has shown commitment to the human resources profession by leading and optimizing organizational cultures to achieve system-wide growth and long-term sustainability.

Ms. Valadez has years of instructional and administrative leadership experience, beginning her career in education 30 years ago as a teacher and advancing to assistant principal and lead principal roles. She served in a district leadership role as an assistant director of human resources and currently provides districtwide strategic leadership as a member of GESD’ s Executive Team as Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources.

In addition to her service to GESD, Ms. Valadez is a co-chair of the Legislative and Governmental Committee for the American Association of School Personnel Administrators. The Legislative and Governmental Committee monitors and informs members of pending legislation involving and impacting school personnel initiatives in the United States and internationally. She also served as secretary on the Arizona School Personnel Administrators Association Executive Board from 2016 to 2020.
