Bouchard, Farrell and Parrilli should score extremely well. Jones finished third in the race walk at the Class B state meet. Veilleux should also improve from last spring and contribute in the sprints. Coach’s comment: “We’ll be extremely competitive. We’ll be noticed.”

Turner is one of the top pole vaulters in the state and Sintetos should produce, as well. Turner finished fourth in the pole vault at the Class B meet last season. Coach’s comment: “We’re going to be very deep in a lot of events. We’re going to be very competitive.”

SOFTBALL Coach: Steve Blood (3rd season) Last season: 11-6, lost in Eastern B quarterfinals Top returners: Julie Riordan (Sr., P/CF/1B), Kaite Bernard (Sr., P/CF/1B), Lynsey Vigue (Sr., SS/C), Kylee Risinger (Sr., 3B), Mackenzie Drake (Sr., P/OF), Jordyn Pomerleau (Jr., RF/2B), Mariah Chenard (Jr., 1B/LF), Allison LeClair (So., 2B/RF) Key newcomers: Stephanie Brawn (Jr., 1B), Jennifer Poulin (So., C), Jessica Pare (So., OF), Morgan Clark (So., 3B), Megan Richards (So., P/LF), Autumn Poulin (Fr., CF), Rachel Sirois (Fr., 2B), Morgan Guimond (Fr., OF) Outlook: The Black Raiders have six starters back, including Riordan and Bernard, two quality pitchers with experience. The other positions also look like they’re in good hands, so Winslow should be a competitive team in Eastern B. Coach’s comment: “There’s a lot of speed, and we look to utilize that. Hopefully, we’ll do a little bit of small ball and move some people around.”

GIRLS TENNIS Coach: Linda McCann (4th season) Last season: 3-9, Eastern Class B Quarterfinals Top returners: Alicia Higgins (Sr.), Jessica McCaslin (Sr.), Dianna Wendell (Sr.), Madeleine Daily (Jr.), Jillian Dupuis (Jr.), Brittni Martell (Jr.), Courtney McCaslin (Jr.), Abby Roy (Jr.), Abbi Lutz (Jr.), Allison Woodside (Jr.), Karlee Price (So.) Key newcomers: Elizabeth Milhomens (Sr.), Kayla LaBrie (Jr), Marisa Bickford (Fr.), Kalianna Carpenter (Fr.), Brennah O'Connell (Fr.), Lillian Pellerin (Fr.), Monica Tompkins (Fr.) Outlook: Winslow returns just two of seven starters from last season, so the emphasis this season will be gaining experience for the future. McCaslin will likely play No. 1 singles for Winslow. Daily is the other returning starter and will be asked to play a larger role this spring. Coach’s comment: “We are a very young team. We have only four seniors this year. Those four were freshmen when the team was founded. We consistently have a large group of girls because we are a no-cut program. The program is definitely growing. ”

BASEBALL Coach: Kyle Gunzinger (1st season) Last season: 12-6, reached East B quarterfinals Top returners: John McCabe (Sr., C), Kris Smith (Sr., 3B-P), Zach Carey (Sr., OF-P), MacKenzie Michaud (Jr., 2B), Caleb Hill (Jr., UT-P), Jordan Holt (Jr., OF-P), Eric Crawley (Jr., C-DH), Mike McLaughlin (Jr., P-1B-OF), Donald Camp (So., SS-P) Key newcomers: Mike Poulin (Jr., P-3B), Joseph Hopkins (So., OF), Gabe Smith (So., OF), Logan Hewes (So., 1B-P) Outlook: Gunzinger, who coached the Waterville American Legion baseball team last summer, takes over a talented Black Raiders sqaud that should contend for a playoff spot. McCabe is one of the top hitters in the KVAC. Holt is the top returning pitcher, and along with Carey, Camp and Kris Smith will see a lot of innings. Gunzinger plans on playing a wide open style of baseball. Coach’s comment: “We want to be competitive in each and every game.”

BOYS TENNIS Coach: David Deas (4th season) Last season: 1-11 Top returners: Mike McCann (Sr.), Anthony Breton (Jr.), Graham Clark (Jr), Tyler Benedict (So.), Sean McCarthy (Sr.), E.J. Casillan (So), Darren Veilleux (Sr.), Scott Gilbert (Jr), Conner Bourgoin (Jr.), Pascal Swiercz (Sr) Key newcomers: Brandon Deas (Fr.), Aren Carpenter (Fr.), Logan Vashon (Fr.), Nathaniel Lombardi (Fr.), Drew Cater (Fr.), Skyler Henry (Jr.), Shane O'Connell (Jr.) Outlook: A three-sport standout athlete, McCann will be the captain and the No. 1 singles player for the Black Raiders. Benedict is expected to move up the ladder to a more prominent role on the team this spring. In just four years as a varsity program, Winslow has become a consistent, reputable team. Coach’s comment: “The biggest kick for me is seeing the youth develop. My primary focus is to get kids interested and excited about tennis. Mostly what I want to see is kids setting and reaching some goals.
