OGLETREE Continued from page 1C Maybe most importantly for St. Louis, though, he’s discarded any of the image problems that had NFL franchises shying away from picking him until the 30th selection of the 2013 draft. Ogletree, who was known locally as being quiet and reserve off the field, hasn’t allowed the Rams to rethink their decision. His 10 forced fumbles over two seasons are the second highest of any defender in the league next to St. Louis defensive teammate Robert Quinn. Off the field, he’s been a model athlete both in the local community and closer to home here in Newnan, where he gave out Thanksgiving meals to families in need and donated $10,000 to his high school alma mater for new facilities in the Cougars weight room. O g let re e re cent ly told Atlanta Journal Constitution Georgia beat writer Seth Emerson that it’s all been a part of maturing as an adult,

having turned pro before his 21st birthday. “I definitely learned a bunch of life lessons,” Ogletree told Emerson. “Stuff I did back then, it is behind me now, and it’s about what you’re doing now, and pushing forward. I just want to be a better person, and have a great career here. Leave all the off-field issues.” He now enters his third professional season after leading Rams defenders in tackles. Despite a 6-10 finish last year, some NFL analysts feel the team is poised to leapfrog Arizona and San Francisco in what has been a competitive NFC West alignment led by Seattle’s back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. “The goal is to start fast, be the top five defense in every category that we can possibly be in, and win games,” Ogletree said during the offseason. “At the end of the day, it’s all about winning, and we definitely want to start that trend this year. We want to come out every day and compete, even in training camp.” Like others in the defense, Ogletree has a lot more con-

fidence in his grasp of the system entering coordinator Gregg Williams' second season back with the Rams. "I'm totally way more comfortable in the defense," Ogletree said. "Right now, it's about fine-tuning stuff and making sure you're consistent." In his first two seasons, Ogletree learned the value of practice. In college, he might have been able to get by on sheer talent. The Rams, who haven't fielded a winning team in a decade, have posted seven, seven and six victories the first three seasons under coach Jeff Fisher. Substituting for size, he'll rely on leverage and better use of his hands at the point of attack. He vows to spend more time watching film, too. "I'll hopefully continue to lead the team in tackles, and in other categories, too," he said. "Most of all, I want to win. The individual stuff, that'll take care of itself as long as we're winning."
