Introducing‌

Miss Sacramento !

B

uilding on a Foundation of Beauty, Discipline,

Communicative Relationships, Philanthropic Platforms and Ultimately Empowering Women has MISS SACRAMENTO COUNTY PAGEANT set forth in MAKING A DIFFERENCE. The Founder and Director, Mykesha Robinson has made it her point to give back and embellish women and girls alike to do the same as they become a driving force of change in their communities.Chloe Anderson is a 27 year old passionate lover of the arts, particularly film and theater; and the eldest sibling of her brother and sister was relatively new to the world of pageantry before she won the title of Miss Sacramento County. She states, “This was the only year I was able to compete in the USA System…This is my first title and it’s been a wonderful journey.” Chloe’s love of performing and having a deep connection with impacting her community as well as wanting to serve others says, “Being able to be a part of the pageant community and the Miss Sacramento Pageant Organization has been a wonderful opportunity as this was a wonderful experience.”!

! ! !

TR: How has being crowned Miss Sacramento County transformed your life? When you decided to compete did you do that to change, to transform? !

!

I really think I went into the pageant with a very strong desire to center myself. In high school and college, I think it’s easy for young people to have a goal; because you’re moving toward diploma, you’re moving toward a degree and hopefully after that you get a job; to be a productive member of society; but I had also gone through a year of personal struggle with our family…Our mother had suddenly passed away to breast cancer, so I was looking for an opportunity to focus myself emotionally and mentally and really get myself back into a position where I could give back into the community; on a bigger scale than what I was doing at the time where I was one on one mentoring people. The competition…I am naturally a competitive person; so the competition appealed to me. The timeline table gave me a goal, so I worked toward it and then, once I had gone through the whole process…I never thought of myself as a pageant girl…so I think that was a pretty critical point of transformation…; And going through the pageant process. I think if you go in with the desire to improve yourself, to really hone your own message, and to earn a platform to help others, I think you’ll end up walking

!

! away with a lot of valuable maturity, a lot of valuable insight and a lot of valuable friends who are ready to cheer you on and help you with your own personal goals….I really think that’s the transformation that I’ve seen…I’ve gone from being a little uncertain as to where I was going; but now I have a clear vision and I have confidence; and I have a wonderful network of people who I have gotten to know through this pageant that I can now turn around and help more people.!

!

Chloe Anderson, Miss Sacrament County continues to wear her crown respectively in the Beauty of Being a Driving Force and Being and Making the Difference in her community. She exhibits pure hope and joy as she has been a part of an amazing array of women; where nervous energy, being on edge, because everyone is competing and wanting the same goal as they engage and love “the Sisterly Process,” as Chloe states... and continues to say, “You pass whatever differences you have. By enlarge you get along and love each other.” She wants the world to see her hope, her joy that this pageant has given her. “I’m doing this, because I LOVE IT! It’s also a job, and I take that job part very seriously. It’s a job that I love…I hope that in my work, in my smile, they see someone who works hard like them and have been given an opportunity to shine bright…It’s making a difference in my community.”!

!

What does TIGHT ROPE mean to you? When I hear the word “Tight Rope”… I envision myself on top of a tight rope… because I think to a certain extent we’re all walking a tight rope of life; and looking down, there is this dizzy feeling, because you know just how high the stakes are…but if you don’t walk across that tight rope, there’s nothing for the people watching you to cheer…there’s no accomplishment for you to celebrated on the other side; So you have to embrace that dizzying fear almost about taking a chance and actually go for it! That’s the way you inspire people and bring them hope…That’s the way you really live life to the fullest!! !

! ! !

Getting to know Miss Sacramento County, Chloe Anderson ! • She has a Dual Bachelor’s Degree in Russian Language and International Studies! • She has taken a number of Masters Level Courses in Film! • Her love of Russian comes from her dad, a Russian Linguist.! • She founded a nonprofit that works with students to do youth development through film production.! • Her passion is film and theatre; that’s what she loves and ultimately hopes her work takes her there. !

here are (mes, periods and seasons of life that

bring to our remembrance some kind of a feeling; an emo(on that can influence a thought pa;ern if not only for a moment. Music does that to our spirits, our souls, and our minds as the person that ini(ates it lyrically with sound becomes a semblance of that era, maybe even our experiences.

! Taking it back to the 90’s where R&B was Hip-‐Hop Soulish, with some sexually charged New Jack Swing, along with that machine-‐ tooled funk and the crooners that made us sweat… And speaking of a crooner of a different color, but the soul of a man with a “BONAFIDE” giV to escort us to a des(na(on in our minds’ desire by singing exactly what we want to hear is JON B, an ar(st of his (me. I know you remember the hit, the Grammy nominated “Someone to Love” featuring Babyface, and from his cer(fied Double Pla(num Album “Cool Relax” the hit, “ They Don’t Know”. Yes, him! Did you know he’s a songwriter also and has wri;en for other people? He has wri;en songs for AVer 7, Toni Braxton, Michael Jackson, Color Me Badd, who are true talents; this all happened before his rise to fame.

Jon B states on his website, "I am not an ar*st who can’t be pinned down to one sound or style. IN HER WORDS I began my journey back in 2010 after assisting a

close friend of mine on her photo shoots. She inspired me to pursue a career as a curvy model and from then on, the rest is history. I booked a photo shoot with Damien Smith Photography to get a variety of pictures for my portfolio while Melina Maderazo did my makeup. Shortly after, I booked my first modeling assignment with My Black is Beautiful where Jennifer Austin, celebrity stylist, was one of the personalities on set of the style segment.

citizens across

America stand in awe and look to the sky as blazing red rays peek through the big, billowy clouds. “Is it bird? Is it a plane?” they ask. No. It’s Melanie Specht; and this girl is on fire. The burgundy bombshell is shedding new light on the Dark of the Moon prequel as she appears in Transformers: Age of Extinction. At 5’7’’ she’s hardly a greeneyed monster. But her spit-fire Grand Dame role may show us otherwise. Specht plays Joshua’s executive assistant. She says, “I wish I could go into more detail but you’ll have to just go and see Transformers 4 when it comes out!” The Florida State Grad received a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications but she had always set her sights on pursuing an acting career. She felt “there was no other option.” Sheer determination is what led her from college graduate to full-fledged actress. But, she actually encountered her first acting experience at the tender age of four.

!

E G

Specht began her career with heavy-hitter shows like Young and the Restless and Entourage. She humbly considers every role a major step forward in this industry and she places her primary focus on being her best and then “besting” her best in each character she plays. She says, “I try not to get caught up in the “breaking out” mentality because I don’t want to become distracted by labels. Acting is both my passion and my bliss.”

R AG

It all started when she accompanied her mother to her older sister’s Snow White performance and felt left out. On opening night, Melanie established her own role by racing up onto the stage and into the narrator’s lap just before the curtains opened. Ever since then, she’s been a star on the rise.

!

! She also strongly believes cultivating an attitude of gratitude for each role played keeps her moving steadily forward. Melanie most recently had the opportunity to work alongside Michael Bay and she was excited about the challenge. She went to great lengths to suit his creative spontaneity and to provide the flexibility he required. She is forever grateful to have been directed by him.

In addition to her Transformers role, she just completed a film called “Building Lines.” It depicts the lives of modern day cowboys who are rugged, strong and have a work hard/play hard mentality. These guys aren’t your typical tobacco chewing chumps and she won’t play the ditsy damsel in distress. Melanie is also currently filming the second season of a sketch web series called The 5 Minute Sketch Show. It consists of crazy characters exercising their funny bone while having serious fun. She has a few other great projects that she’s working on this year but can’t elaborate on right now. Apparently, 2014 has many possibilities in store for Specht.

Melanie’s favorite actress of all time is Meryl Streep because she is an inter-changeable artist who has depth and versatility. Specht admires Angelina Jolie for her dedication to a variety of humanitarian causes. As a supporter of several charities, Melanie has become an advocate for putting a stop to sex trafficking.

!

She’s self-educated about sex trafficking through different documentaries she’d seen on television shows like FRONTLINE and DATELINE. She was drawn in after discovering the plight of sex trafficking victims, and grew angry at the horrific practice that has continued to thrive for decades. This anger sparked her interest in becoming an advocate and to spread awareness. The young talent is extremely passionate about achieving her dreams and won’t give up. Since her days with Straitjacket Society, she has showed us that she can be quite comical! She wants to equally dabble in both dramatic and comedic genres. She fully intends to provide moving and realistic performances and to become an accomplished actress in all theatrical mediums. She doesn’t want to confine herself to a box and limit the choices of roles she wishes to play. As an actress, Melanie says “my objective is to continue honing my artistic skills in every way possible including writing, directing and producing.” You can catch Melanie Specht on the big screen June 27th for the premiere of Transformers: Age of Extinction a theater near you.

CORNER

! “Creative, Anointed, Energetic…” Words expressed by an accomplished woman who was born to not only sing, but SANG and to ENTERTAIN. That WOMAN is Ashley Támar Davis also known as “TÀMAR”, a Protégé of Prince and the Grammy Nominated Artist who sings, writes and acts answered the question, “What three words describes you?” She continued by saying, “I would say my creative side comes from just always not necessarily thinking outside of the box, but finding out what’s not…and implementing what needs to be, based off of what I have observed that’s not happening.” ! It all began at the age of three, when she first fell in love with music and from then, being so young her parents began to put her in different things. Támar endearingly stated, “I would have to say I was three (3) years old when I first fell in love with music…The teacher at Southmore Kiddy Kollege asked who wanted to sing the songhe was teaching us and my mom said, I just raised my hand…but, of course at three(3) years old you’re not cognizant of if you can sing or not…but, it wasn’t until I performed that song, “Home” in the Wizard of Oz and I got a standing ovation.”

! Her love for music continued to prove evident at 3 years old as she would ride home after choir rehearsal in the backseat of her parents’ car humming as much as she could remember from what she had heard. “But I didn’t really understand my passion was for music until high school at the Performing and Visual Arts…and didn’t want to make it a career until 2004 when I was traveling with Tamia,” she elaborated. As time would have it, the young Ashley (9 years old) would become one of the lead vocalist of the girl group “Girl Tyme”, which members included the now famed Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Latavia Robertson and two other girls; at 11 years old, she would be flown to Paisley Park to sing and record, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, a remake Prince made for her and then fast forward to 2004, when she began touring with the singer “Tamia”. In 2005, she would be reintroduced to Prince by famed choreographer Fatima Robinson, as she was given a chance to sing for him in person and from there “HISTORY WAS MADE!” Támar lovingly stated, “…I started making money and prospering off my gift…”!

!

The stage was very welcoming to Támar as she would step on the stages of Tyler Perry’s plays and showcase her acting ability along with her superb singing voice. Her acting lead her to being cast in Tyler Perry’s “Madea’s Big Happy Family,” his short-run tour of “Laugh to Keep from Crying” and as the one of the leads in Tyler Perry’s hit stage play “The Marriage Counselor”. Her work ethic is definitely a testament to her performances… EXCELLENT!!! !

!

Támar has accomplished much and a part of that accomplishment is giving back. She assuredly is a Philanthropist and endeavors to help this generation of children and artists alike move forward in their dreams. The Tamar Davis Project, a Non-Profit Organization which is tapping into the artistic side and the passions of this generation; seeking finances to be able to give them the basics. Támar further explains, “If there is a videographer who is great at what he does, but he doesn’t have the next camera that he needs or the lighting that he needs or website or whatever… I become the guinea pig for what they do and in return they are able to use whatever their talent is on me, to use it to get momentum for their own desires…Designers, Stylists, Hairstylists, Make-Up Artists, whatever; which is something that’s never been done… So, basically we go and get funding for their Entrepreneurial Startup cost… and the whole momentum is to use what you have… The motto is ‘To use what you have…’ What do you have?”!

!

The gifts and talents of others and helping them is a powerful movement in the right direction. A step forward in creating a positive feeling and an outreach to show you care. She is ultimately a mentor to many. !

!

“Overall the music business is constantly changing… and after working with amazing mentors from Prince to working with Tyler Perry and you see that there’s really no limit in the music business and the entertainment business….” - TÀMAR!

!

As Támar continues to climb the ladder of success and exerting her talents, she has booked her first Broadway show “Motown, the MusicaL” the National Tour, where she plays numerous roles and just received the Diana Ross understudy. A great accomplishment indeed. The tour began on May 8, 2014 in Chicago and will travel the country abroad. Look out for Támar to release new music, every Monday beginning in August 2014 titled “Jackin’ 4 Beats” where she takes current beats of notable artists from London Grammar to Meek Mills to Kanye West to Katy Perry and re-created entirely new songs. In the works is her autobiography, “The Syren of Damascus, A Profile of Támar Davis” and in 2015, the release of her sophomore album will hit the airwaves.!

!

Don’t take it for granted that she hasn’t been as visible as you would want her to be, Támar is keeping it Sexy, Sassy, Classy and Sound!!! She’s focused and on point!!! Stay Tuned for More!!!!

IMAN N. MILNER

ANTHONY B. PHILLIPS

“LOVE ESCAPES US”, A Silent Short Film When it comes to SILENT FILMS, history has explained and or defined to us, that a silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound and no spoken dialogue. For entertainment in silent films the dialogue is transmiKed through muted gestures, mime and Ltle cards bringing us to a fulfillment of experiencing and seeing a true art form.

!

Let it be known that the Silent Film era spanned from 1894 – 1929 and then we have entered into 2014, where “LOVE ESCAPES US”, A Silent Short Film was created. Iman N. Milner, the concept creator as well as writer was inspired by a Frank Ocean song to write about LOVE and being HURT. Iman took from her experiences as well as experiences of her friends to develop such a film, but not without contacLng her friend and fellow writer, Anthony B. Phillips to get his perspecLve and experiences about that same LOVE/HURT and the dynamics of the emoLons behind it. Anthony, later met Craig Tovey at the Upright CiLzens Brigade in Los Angeles, where they both were taking a class. As conversaLon took place, Craig expressed that he had just moved here (Los Angeles) and he wanted to shoot something and that lead to Anthony showing Craig the story; Anthony states, “And the ball started rolling… A blessing in disguise.” Craig Tovey, the Director of “LOVE ESCAPES US” brought definite ideas to the project; one being to shoot downtown with the tall buildings in plain sight. Their ideas came together like a marriage and the finished product is LOVE. FILM REVIEW: "LOVE ESCAPES US" is the compelling tale of the cycle of love and heartbreak as told through the experiences of two people who fall in love during the wrong season. King (Anthony B. Phillips) and Queen (Iman N. Milner) journey through an emoLonal path of one another’s love throughout this poignant story. My Thoughts: A Black & White Silent Film that takes you on a journey of LOVE. On a train, a chance meeLng brings man and woman, King and Queen together. An immediate aKracLon and an invitaLon is all that one may need to have a chance at love or whatever the season may call for it to be. The film brings you right into the moment as the music is a definite influence in in the direcLon and flow of each momentous emoLon. Queen accepLng King’s invite to have dinner at his house…A cooked meal that didn’t go so well, but an assured meeLng in the kitchen and a kiss leads to wonderful encounter of LOVE. Queen, gegng over her memory of a past relaLonship and springing into a new one that lead to common communicaLon, fun, ouLngs and everything a girl thought she needed. It was definitely going so well and then, feelings started to change and a decision was made to end the relaLonship. The heartache can be seen in both their eyes. The writers, who are also the actors portrayed each character in a powerful real way. No sound was needed. It was perfect! You could read each emoLon, to the fact of actually hearing what was being said without truly hearing it! Props to the Director… The shots were incredible as the actors kept me truly engaged. Not a dull moment… It lej me wanLng more. A must see! Check it out on youtube.com “LOVE ESCAPES US”. A true statement in itself. Yolanda B. Ketchum
