PINELANDS NORTH PRIMARY SCHOOL Electroids win international robotics competition Joshua Harrod, Philip Brink and Jacob Rae – the “Electroids” – from Pinelands North Primary School have won first place in South Africa in the Wonder League Robotics Competition in the 9–12 age bracket! The boys’ achievement involved hours of coding and testing, as well as filming their results and uploading their code and film to the judges. Of the more than 5 000 teams from 52 countries that entered the competition, only 33% completed all the challenges and made it to the end. Building on this success, PNPS plans to offer a Wonder League coding club as an extracurricular activity this year.
Red Roots Pre-School Red Roots, an independent preprimary school based alongside Pinelands North Primary, opened their doors to two classes of 20 children on 11 January 2017. Although they are following the CAPS curriculum, they are using the Reggio Emilio methods of learning, to create excitement and enthusiasm for learning. Visit the school on their School in Action Day on 8 March to watch this process in action!
THE PINELANDS PRIMARY SCHOOL Interhouse Athletics Day On 24 January 2017 The Pinelands Primary School had its annual Interhouse Athletics Day. The school pupils were divided into three houses: Derham, Ross, and Wells. The Athletics Day comprised of various different races in which learners from Grade R to Grade 7 participated. The pupils were excited despite the fact that it started raining. Due to heavy rain the relay races had to be suspended. The U/10 girls 80m record was broken by Amy Pharaoh. Well done to all the athletes for taking part as well as the cheerleaders.
