COLLEGIATE GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL (t) 041 373 7705 (e) collegia@cghs.co.za

Collegiate Maiden Cricket Tour Collegiate Girls’ High School embarked on their first ever cricket tour this past weekend, to East London. Collegiate had scheduled fixtures against Cambridge High School and Hudson Park High School. Day one was unfortunately tampered with by an incredibly short yet detrimental down pour. This did not stop them from playing some form of cricket. The two teams made their way to the Cambridge Astro Turf and played a no padded friendly match. The spirit and comradery was unbelievable. Even though no competition took place, the girls ensured that there would be cricket on their cricket tour. Day two saw the weather clear and Collegiate square up to Hudson Park High School in a T20 match. Hudson went in bat first and set a total of 114/5 in 20 overs. Outstanding bowling from Alizwa Jonas who took 2 for 16 in 3 overs and Owethu Ndaza who took 2 for 13 in 4 overs. Opening partnership of Leila Siljeur and Natasha Bull left the remaining batsmen with a very attainable target. Natasha Bull scored 59, losing her wicket in the 10th over and Leila Siljeur scored 25, getting clean bowled in the 12th over. After Marle Steyn and Precious Gumbo fell shortly after the opening partnership. Alizwa Jonas and Owethu Ndaza saw Collegiate over the line winning the match by 6 wickets. In between the cricket the girls managed to squeeze in some social time where they played laser tag, watched 1st XI Coach Nicole Kemp play for the EP Ladies XI and went to watch some of the South Africa vs West Indies ladies ODI. First XI Manager, Matthew Blair said, “Working with a group who are so grateful and eager to grow is fantastic. The passion for the game and team spirit is inspirational and we are glad that we are able to help develop the sport in our province. And hope that this can become a regular occurrence.” The results were as follows: • Cambridge vs Collegiate – Match abandoned • Hudson Park High School vs Collegiate • HPHS 114/5 in 20 overs • CGHS 115/4 in 18.2 overs
