Grade 1 Bell Ringing

My First Day of Big School!

Kayla Griffin and Joshua Van Zyl of Grade 1 rang the bell at Glenwood Prep – a tradition for all pupils entering the school for the first time.

Star Swimmer Kelly-Ann Brown participated in the finals of the KZN Speedo Championships. She swam in 13 races and received 6 medals! Kelly-Ann was placed 2nd overall in her age group. Well done, Kelly-Ann, on this wonderful achievement.

MORNINGSIDE PRIMARY SCHOOL (t) 031 303 2413 (e) mornpri@mweb.co.za Morningside chooses acting prefects The Grade 7s were thrilled when the first round of monitors en route to becoming prefects were announced in assembly. Twenty-seven learners have been given the opportunity to show their leadership skills in various tasks around the school, from guiding and ensuring the safety of the learners under their supervision, to helping the teachers in their day-today activities. When asked what their aims were for the year, the replies varied, but when one child said, “Become an actual prefect, not just an acting one,” the volume suddenly increased with everyone agreeing wholeheartedly with the sentiment. Most of the “monitors” have enjoyed their classes and responsibilities so far, but when asked about how they felt about fellow learners during their first week of duty, the responses ranged from “annoying, stressing” to “they’re difficult and they don/t listen.” To be fair, they were only talking about some of the children. When questioned, it turns out that the most vocal of them were referring to Grade 1 learners, who are still learning how to work in a school environment (and therefore need lots of guidance and attention) and the ever present group of “round pegs in square holes” who provide teachers and monitors with problems to solve when they have nothing to do during break. Morningside wishes the first batch of monitors all the best. May they grow in confidence and stature these first few months of 2017.
