WINSTON PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL (t) 031 767 3214 (e) ginal@wppschool.co.za Horse riding Jessica O’Brien, a Grade 5 pupil at Winston Park Primary School, started horse riding in 2014. At the beginning of this year, she showed an interest in riding more competitively and joined the Thellwells Riding School under the guidance of Sue Saddler. She has grown in confidence since January and her passion for show jumping has grown with her confidence. She has competed in a number of affiliated shows since January and has done extremely well in the 60cm class at these shows. She has competed in two Triple P Challenges at Shongweni, coming first and second in the first challenge and achieved two firsts in the second challenge. She has also competed in two ESP Challenges, obtaining a 1st and 3rd in the first and two seconds in the second ESP Challenge. She also obtained a 2nd place in the SANESA Schools Challenge. Her passion and determination for riding was tested in the week preceding her two first places in the Winter Triple P Challenge, as her Grandmother passed away on the Tuesday before the competition and she fell off her horse three times that week. Jessica told her parents and her Granddad that she wanted to compete and dedicate her performance to her Grandmother. Her two firsts would have made her Grandmother proud.
