Superkraft`s aim was to ensure a more adaptive, clear design and working space both for customers and workers in a friendly atmosphere. Moreover, exhibiting and utilizing the great number of stored paintings and artworks from local artists. The careful thoughts about materials, surfaces, and colors, additionally the arrangements make the welcoming area inviting, accessible and robust helping a sustainable interior.

Designing integrated reception and working desks, special resting corners and kitchenette with keeping the color codes and finishes help the efficient and good working environment. Through onsite-surveys and continuous adaptations and control, the good quality and minimal excess could be maintained during the processes and renovations.

Villa Paradis is a nine and ten apartments residential complex located in a growing but still traditional villa-area.

It is relating to the neighboring typology with considering the characteristic materials, hights and contexts. With inclined walls the volume is reduced ensuring better daylight conditions, and also makes a connection to the villas accented roof structure.

Vertical and wider windows are varying to break the conventional typology, take in the right amount of light and open up for the view. The exterior grey timber cladding ensures a subtle merge with the context.

Villa Paradis differentiates itself from the usual block houses; the building is divided into 3 parts, to reduce the sensation of the volume and to open up towards all directions. The complex is carefully designed to be fully accessible.

The ground floor apartments have private gardens and access from outdoor, while the upper ones are accessible through the common staircase and elevator, having additional own terraces.

The complex has a garage level with automated 2-level parking and accessible lots. Separated storage rooms are planned for different outdoor activities on the common green and gathering areas.

The houses are aiming to merge with its neighborhood while creating new, vivid and sustainable homes surrounded by the greens.

A CARING SPACE - DESIGN FOR DEMENTIA

The complex facilitates homes for 48 patients in two distinct dwelling types, contains social, private, retreat and active spaces as well as different outdoor areas; completing staff and management functions, with an overall sensitiveness towards the users.

Every designed space is aimed to give some stimulation or natural relief; the garden in the staircase allowing the nature to flow through the building and create a recognizable point as well as the experience kitchen in the middle of the hall or the ramp-journey between the dwellings and social areas. The use of materials aims to aid demented people, create familiar environment while merging with the context. The integrated vegetation is carefully chosen e.g. to support indoor comfort, being edible or stimulating olfactory.

Daylight is crucial in comfort and care of residents, thus became a major design factor. Motifs from the nature, such as how the skylights allow the light coming in and scatter between the timber trusses creates the atmosphere of a forest walk experiencing sunlight through the treetops.

Natural ventilation is possible via thermal buoyancy, while mechanical ventilation system is integrated into the roof construction. Acoustical aspects are also considered in the design of the small-scaled truss elements. Through the design process daylight analyses, structural calculations and iterations aided the results.

A caring space with the belief in the substantial familiarity and beneficial power of nature.

Briefly discribing the project, the challenge is to establish a new church for the growing settlement Hatlehol in Ålesund, Norway.

The aim of the design is to create a sacred place with common areas for gathering people, in the sense of Nordic architecture and emphasising tectonics and the acoustic values. As a method, integrated design has been used in a reinterpreted, completed way with tectonics, focused on the “gestures and principles”.

In this case, the montainous and wooded landscape supplied the gesture, creating a majestic religious place, alongside human scaled community areas.

From a distance, the peaks are visible as a landmark, while upon arrival, the complex has a rather embracing attitude. Sacred, common, and teaching functions are separated into four volumes, connecting to a “bridge” with open areas which is meant to be a pathway and a transit between the inside, outside and nature.

The structural principle of the complex is a system of timber frames, shaping double- curved peaky roof surfaces. Trusses have been added to reduce the beam size of the wide-span main church. They are designed to create a majestic but protected inside athmosphere, with leading lights towards the altar.

The outside cladding is gray, weathered oak, imitating the rocks, while the interiors are covered with bright natural pine.

This following project is a Zero Energy residential complex, established in a post-industrial zone in Aalborg called HĂĽndvĂŚrkerkvarteret. According to the municipality plans, the area will be completely revitalized az mixed usage, livable district of the town.

The project engages the integrated design process, creating such an architecture that is considerate towards sustainability in all its range - not only towards the architecture itself but also its local context. The architecture creates a vivid expression that attracts attention from afar, and this expression is a result of a concept which introduces a subtle integration of passive strategies that has been processed since the first design iteration.

Using several simulation and analytic methods (incl. parametric design tools), the project investigates the notion of home and seeks to procure the right frames for developing this sensation in a dense urban environment. Throughout the process, a balance between social interaction and privacy in dwellings is given, activating new urban spaces in a housing complex to enhance diversity and create a design that enhances the quality of life in an urban context.

With its unique shape, the design is creating a flow through the site that is connecting the main flow of the city, with a new urban green space surrounded by relaxing activities. In the process of designing from the inside out as well as the outside and in a design has emerged that promotes a sustainable lifestyle for the dwellers as well as the rest of the context.

ZEB BUILDING IN AALBORG (GROUPWORK)

2017

The goal of the assignement was to create a community building into a demolished site in the heart of District 22 of Budapest. Considering the local conditions and the lack of socio-cultural functions, a small facility building and daycare house has been established, focused on traditional arts and crafts available for different usergroups. while the small gathering area at the pulled back entrance makes its public features visible. An inviting hall area connects the wings, shaped to enhance the different functions; the increasing spatious part is the main exhibition and market room, while the downward wing is housing the workshops, lighted by turning skylights and the glazed corridor. Using openable glass surfaces and mobile walls, the interior spaces are variable, considering the activities.

The complex is designed as a passive house with amount of solar gain. The main material is highly insulated concrete which provides also a termal mass.

Heat pumps are implemented to provide hot water for domestic use and for integrated wall heating.

An open house, offering place for improving the life of people by acquiring new skills through bringing back our traditions to the everydays.

2013

The campus of Szent Istvรกn University has been lacking a welcoming building for a long time, therefore this project is a proposal for an information and expo house at the arriving area.

The building principle is an organic shaped, floating space, embracing the inner core which contains the different function spaces. The core is designed with a timber-frame system on rails containing expandable textile sheets which are able to separate a meeting area and a lecture room.

The big open area can be used for introduction days, expo evenings or exhibitions of the students, as the campus is missing a suitable building for such events.

To be more integrated to the environment, extensive green roof and a lively park are established around the building, following its form. A skylight at the middle of the roof can bring light to the inner area, meanwhile it can be shaded with the mobile frame system.

The building has a concrete column structure and an insulated glass curtain wall envelope. As the envelope is pulled back, floating in between the columns, it determines the the entrance and the terrace area as well as provides shelters for them.

This project can be a suitable welcome and infospot and as an exhibition space offers a much better communication and network for the University.

Welcome and expo building 2014

This mobile micro-cabin is designed as a student accommodation, focusing on sustainability and using DGNB and Life cycle analyses.

The gross area of the cabin is 15 m2, with a width of 2,40 m considering easy transportation. It is able to mainly sustain itself and offer a suitable housing for a student, ensuring a comfortable indoor environment.

The furnituring is foldable or designed with storage places, creating a compact but variable layout arrangement. Light natural colored materials are used for a bright and cozy interior.

During the design process, the life cycle of materials has been considered, therefore the main structure and covering are from local timber, while 100% recycled denim insulation gives a well-insulated building envelope. To reduce the waste water, the cabin inplemented with tanks for clearwater, rain and graywater, and a compost toilet as well. Besides passive solutions such as insulated and well-oriented windows and doors, solar cells on roof has been established completed with batteries. Additional wood-fire stove has been installed with reduced emission, in case of cold outdoor conditions without sunlight. After opening the foldable shutters of the doors, they can function as a covered terrace, making connection with the outdoors.

This compact box offers a sustainable and valued lifestyle, making possible to locate it in a broad perspective.

S usta i n a b l e st u d e n t cabin 2017

This project was built for a enormous scientifical exhibition Checkpoint Leonardo in the Art Museum of Oulu, Finland.

The project leader Seppo Mäkkinen designed this huge sphere of snow, inspired by Verne’s Nautilus.

As the first step, a circular frame with an inflatable balloon in the middle was installed as a mold for the snow wall. The windows were made of ice blocks, placed during the wall-building process and covered with snow. After compression the dampers have been demolished and deflated making available to refine the raw form with handwork. While the final rounded shaping and carving works were proceeded, electrical wires for lighting and soundsources have been implemented. The indoor of the Nautilo was completed with the contribution of two specialists, who designed icetables with colored paintings and a sound installation with records of whales.

While the outside temperature was around minus 30 °C, the closed snowball was able to keep a near zero degrees inside temperature. The Finnish weather and climate makes possible such ice and snow-architecture in January and February, on the ground of the significant amount of snow. The Nautilo could stand without any additional modifications until the middle of April, then it was getting melt.

Being even a small part of this project as a co-worker, it was a honor and an specially interesting building process to experience.

Photography is more than a hobby for me. Through the camera, I am able to catch the atmosphere, the sensation of a moment or a place which have been impressed me. Besides, the technical part of taking photos is always a learning, experimental challenge Living together with the nature is one of the most crutial need of people, and the way how nature is able to bring life to our building, is amazing. Looking around, lights and shadows are affecting our pictures and feelings about our environment, and with slowing down, the tiny details of the everyday life become visible and open another world for our mind.

Forms or structures of nature elements can offer inspiration and references while they are just simply beautiful. Beside enjoying to explore the world by catching them, my purpuse is also to share these values and motivate people to be open for them.
