About the Cover Photographer Skip Vanderslice Originally a model railroad hobbyist, Vanderslice started in photography when he bought a digital camera to photograph the progress of a model railroad he was building. However, he soon became much more interested in the camera than the trains and began to learn everything he could about photography. Although originally from Philadelphia, Vanderslice began vacationing on the Eastern Shore in the mid1980s. “The Tidewater area offers a terrific variety of photographic subjects and opportunities. Camera workshops and outings are almost always available throughout the region, as well as an array of unique local events,” he says.

Vanderslice and his wife, Carmen, became enthralled with powerboat racing after a move to Cambridge several years ago. They live in Galena now, but the Cambridge Classic continues to be his favorite photo event. Most of Vanderslice’s photos have been uploaded to Pbase, an Internet hosting site, to share with family and friends. In addition to boats, his other favorite subjects include wildlife, flowers and sunsets. The photo on the cover is of the Jersey skiff Menace and was taken at the 2010 Cambridge Classic. This year’s races will be held on July 26 and 27. To v iew more of his a lbums, v isit www.pbase.com/candsr r/ root&view=recent.
