hey say with each New Year, comes new changes. I would say that is definitely true in this New Year. 2021 was, let’s just say, an interesting year. Not only for communities, businesses, friends, and neighbors but for myself as well. If I could take a few minutes of your time, I would like to introduce myself and share a bit of our team’s vision as the proud new owners of Thunder Roads® Tennessee/Kentucky. My name is Marcos Garza. Some of you have seen my name along with my law firm and yes, my face on the back cover of this great magazine for several years now. Just as it did for all of you, 2021 brought ups and downs. I am grateful to see another year in which my 4 children grew older, taller, and even during somewhat challenging times, they continue maturing into great human beings. I celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary with my partner in life, my beautiful, inside and out, wife Ramsey. My business has been blessed, not without challenges, but regardless, enabled us to employ 36 incredible team members. As a native of Tennessee, I’ve always sort of considered myself lucky to be a part of the community here and honored to have opportunities to give back. There is a closeness amongst the folks of Tennessee that can’t be explained. You just feel it. My love for the motorcycle community comes largely from my years spent in the Marine Corps. It seems anytime I am asked why I have this affinity for the riding community, I can only say, there was such a sense of brotherhood in the Corps and I feel that same camaraderie among riders. It drives me to want to support and uplift our motorcyclists, and like my brothers in the Corps, protect them. In 2021, I thought to myself, what can my team and I do to get more involved. To ensure we are supporting and advocating not only for the safety and rights of our motorcycle community but also building programs and supporting the needs that are important to them and their families.

2 ThunderRoadsTennessee.com JANUARY 2022

When the opportunity arose to purchase Thunder Roads® Magazine of Tennessee and Kentucky, our team knew immediately, that adding this to our already committed Motorcycle Division would allow us additional opportunities to partner, support, and create awareness not only for riders but businesses dedicated to the motorcyclists not just in our immediate area, but throughout all of Tennessee and Kentucky. I have always considered myself the type of man that stands by what I say. Not only with words, but action, not just action, but courageous action. Thunder Roads® Magazine of Tennessee and Kentucky is YOUR Motorcycle Magazine. We believe everyone has a voice and a story to tell. There is such diversity in motorcycling. Riders come from an array of backgrounds and walks of life. You can ask five different riders on five different bikes what got them into riding. You will get five different stories. However, their love for it stays the same. My commitment as the new owner of TRM TN/KY is to ensure that all riders, local businesses and organizations have an avenue to be seen and heard. For years, I have advertised in TRM TN, under the ownership of Scott and Denise because I believe in the magazine. I am honored that they are now entrusting us to continue and build upon what they have built. We are excited to have all of you on this journey with us and look forward to the next chapter. — Marcos Garza

In 2021, we decided to create a division dedicated solely to our motorcycle community. We realized that the best way to support them was to be right there alongside them. Without question, the riding community is comprised of some of the most selfless, giving, and supportive individuals any of us will meet. Nine months later, after starting this division, I am humbled by the acceptance the riding community has shown us. They trust we are a team not of words, but of action. Yes, we’ve got your six (back)!

On the COVER By April Violet aka

A New Year…. A New You! By YOU, we mean US! You have probably been taught your entire life, don’t judge a book by its cover! Well, we are asking you to do exactly that! Thunder Roads® Tennessee and now also Kentucky, is proud to show you our ‘NEW LOOK’ We are excited to share all that is coming in 2022. But first, let’s introduce you to the incredible five riders who we are proud to have on the cover of our first issue, as the new owners of Thunder Roads® Tennessee and Kentucky.

Meet Nathan Lee Jones, AKA ‘Pid’. Nathan was born in Ohio, grew up in Monticello, Kentucky, and has lived in Clinton TN for the past 40 years. Nathan is our Veteran rider. We say that with the utmost respect because he deserves it after spending 8 years on submarines in the Navy. Nathan is deeply involved with the Time Warp Vintage Motorcycle Club based out of Knoxville, TN. Some folks rescue animals, Nathan rescues bikes. Amongst those he’s returned to their glory were a 1977 Honda Goldwing, 1976 Yamaha RD400c, 1972 Triumph Trident and of course the 1978 Goldwing that he affectionately calls “Hunley” which was his choice for the cover picture. Nathan is retired after 40 years of particle accelerator work. When he’s not saving motorcycles from the depths of despair, Nathan enjoys time with his wife Judy and his two daughters, Melissa and Olivia. His motto in life, “Love ‘em all….Let God sort ‘em out!” Thank you for your service, Nathan.

Ms Heelz on Wheelz

Next up, Mr. Ross William Long, better known as ‘Scobey’. Scobey is a native of Tennessee. Born and raised in Oak Ridge. Scobey’s love of riding started at age 6 when his uncles all chipped in and bought him and his brother their first dirt bike. Considering his older cousin spent countless hours teaching Scobey how to ride out in a field, it is no surprise that it led him to Stunt Riding! He isn’t just a stunt rider; he is part of an entire team of stunt riders called ‘Humble Heroes’ This incredible group of young men do more than wheelies, stoppies, and switchbacks. They devote their time to local children in hopes of inspiring them to spend time learning to ride as opposed to sitting in front of a screen. Motorcycles are not just a hobby for Scobey. They are life. He spends his days working in his motorcycle shop, Coast Motorsports, or promoting his new clothing business, Humble Hero Apparel. If he isn’t working or stunting, he is with family. That consists of his 4 children or his MC family, C2C (Coast 2 Coast). They also do so much with young people in their local community. When asked, why do what you do? Scobey smiles that big infectious smile and replies, “It’s simple. I just want to give back to the community and spread the joy that motorcycles and stunt riding have brought to me.”

If you are wondering who the bearded guy sitting on the 2016 Street Glide is, let us introduce you to Joe Losey. Joe’s actually from upstate New York, however, he has been a Tennessean for the past 42 years. If you ask Joe when he started riding, he will tell you at the age of 5 years old. If you ask his mom, she will say he learned to ride before he could walk. Talk about starting them young. Joe is as loyal to Harley-Davidson as they come. You could say, it is in his blood, literally. He has ridden Harley’s his entire life. Not just him. His grandfather, his aunts and uncles, however, Joe’s greatest influence, not just riding but in life, is his father. “He taught me how to be a man and live an honest and respectful life and no matter what, family always comes first.” What does Joe do for a living? We’ll give you one guess! Yep, he works for Harley-Davidson. Bootlegger HarleyDavidson to be exact. He is the Parts Manager and has been a part of Bootlegger for 17 years. The cover was shot right there at the dealership. So, a huge Thank You to them. Joe prefers to keep things simple, his favorite thing in life is his family, friends, and his precious grandbabies.

Before we introduce Maria. We would like to state that 20% of riders are women and rapidly climbing. Gone are the days that motorcycling is just for men. More and more women are discovering the empowerment and freedom being on two wheels gives them. Something here at Thunder Roads® TN/ KY, we not only support but encourage. Now, back to Maria. Maria Bordt to be exact. Maria is originally from Central New

Jersey. From there she spent 16 years in Lexington Kentucky. In 2014 she decided to call Knoxville TN her home. We fell in love with Maria’s answer to, “What got you into riding?” She very adamantly answered, “Oh it’s in my genes” Turns out her dad picked up her mom for their first date on his Kawasaki H4 750. Maria got her start on a Honda Spree. In 2016 her husband Andrew taught her to ride with a clutch. Maria and her husband love to ride together. So much so, they featured their bikes on their wedding invitation. (This confirms a saying we have here at the magazine, “Couples That Ride Together, Thrive Together”) We just gave you a glimpse into February’s issue….shhhh! As you can see on the cover, Maria is now riding her dream bike, a 2020 Triumph Bonneville T100. When she isn’t pulling on the throttle, she is educating young minds. She is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Carson-Newman University. As we mentioned she is married to the love of her life Andrew. Her stepdaughter Emilia their two dogs, Rocky and Topper complete their family. Maria, you are an inspiration to women everywhere and we are honored to tell your story. Some might say we saved the best for last. Definitely the cutest! Meet Harper. Where to start? This 8-year-old inspired all of us. She is a 3rd-grade honor student who started riding when she was 5 years old. She learned on a Yamaha PW50. When you ask an eightyear-old what her favorite motorcycles are and in between cartwheels and eating Swedish Fish, she nonchalantly answers, KTM’s and Husqvarna. You are left with your mouth open and the realization that her parents #understoodtheassignment (who doesn’t love Tik Tok references) It makes perfect sense considering her older brother, Hayden rides a Husqvarna TC85, Mom rides a Honda Rancher AND a Honda CRF110F. Dad also known as Chase, rides a Husqvarna TX300i. Oh, did we mention, bikes are Dad’s business. He works at Honda Yamaha Suzuki of Knoxville. No wonder riding is a family affair. Outside of riding her KTM 50sx, Harper is like any other energetic little girl. She enjoys playing with her Australian Shepherd, Fancy, and her 2 Lionhead Bunnies, Reece and Reba. When she isn’t out wakeboarding or getting her nails done, she’s watching her favorite motorcycle racers on TV, Ken Roczen and Cooper Webb. Yep, just like any other 8-year-old little girl! Harper, you are in a league of your own. Keep being AWESOME! The point of our Cover Story? To show that motorcyclists come from all walks of life. A variety of backgrounds and reasons to start riding. Thunder Roads® TN/KY loves the diversity that is in the motorcycle community, and we are committed to sharing it with you. WHAT we ride may be different, WHY we ride is the same!

ello Kentucky and welcome to the Thunder Roads® Tennessee family! Over the last several years, Thunder Roads® Tennessee has been proud to represent the motorcycle community across the Volunteer State. As the Nation’s largest, free, networked motorcycle magazine for over twenty-two years, Thunder Roads® Tennessee is excited to merge with Kentucky and become, Thunder Roads® Tennessee/Kentucky. Our expansion strategy into the Bluegrass state is simple; be where riders are. Whether that be on the roads, country stores, bike nights, rallies, or racetracks, look for us, we’ll be there. As we are now Kentucky’s only dedicated motorcycle magazine, expect to see significant content that supports all riders and the bikes that they explore on. From baggers, BMWs, small bores, dual-sport to flat trackers this is YOUR motorcycle magazine. Motorcycle tourism and destination riding are big parts of why we fill up our tanks and head in a direction, so with that in mind let’s start with Eastern Kentucky and some of the most popular rides in that area. East Kentucky is soon becoming the Mecca for Motorcycle Enthusiasts. The development of over 20 new riding trails is currently underway, coupled with that, an application for iPhone and Android is being rolled out. Imagine, at a touch of a button, you will be given all the Points of Interest and turn by turn GPS Navigation! Backroads of Appalachia, the non-profit organization which has been responsible for the development of this project in Eastern Kentucky, have 7 great riding trails already established, such as

The Dragon Slayer (Hwy 160), The Copperhead Trail, The Rattlesnake 192, and The Slingshot, just to name a few. The Dragon Slayer has been named the 3rd most popular riding destination for Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Riders by Hog Magazine. Lynch Kentucky is the official starting point of the 20-mile route that meanders through the beautiful Kentucky countryside, up over the state’s highest mountain, Black Mountain at 4,145 feet, down and across the Virginia state line and ending in Appalachia, VA. Once on the road, the route boasts 226 curves on fresh pavement and is generally a non-technical ride. Meaning you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the ride instead of feeling like you’re flying a helicopter with both hands and feet pumping, braking, squeezing, and pushing your way through it. However, a word of caution, don’t get complacent, there are plenty of first gear turns. In Lynch, riders are invited to stop and visit places like Kings at the Dragon Slayer Welcome Center. Here, you’ll find an overview of the route, learn about the history of Lynch, KY and catch a glimpse of stops along the way. However, before you hit the road, be sure to sign their ‘Big Yellow Wall’. It currently has several thousand signatures of those who’ve stopped by. And of course, they have Dragon Slayer swag. Lots of it. Don’t leave without picking up a few momentums. You’ll be glad you did. Be sure to grab the current edition of Thunder Roads® Tennessee/Kentucky. It’s our first official distribution point in the state. For more information on Backroads of Appalachia and what Kentucky has to offer riders, visit backroadsofappalachia. org or follow them on Facebook. Of course, stay tuned as Thunder Roads ® Tennessee/Kentucky continues to update motorcyclists on what Kentucky has to offer.

BULLET POINTS

SPORTING CLAY COURSES

W

By Indian Rider Bill

elcome to a New Year and a new Bullet Points. We have an exciting year ahead of us as we will continue writing about the mainstays of what to carry, why to carry, and how to carry while riding your bike, and we’re also going to include a variety of shooting sports topics. We know many riders like to shoulder a shotgun, afield or at a skeet, clay, or a trap range. Those who like to lob lead downrange at a steel silhouette to hear that affirming “clink” that lets them know they’re on target. Those who are captivated by the history and mystique of Cowboy shooting and those who like to shoot a fast-action pistol. As our magazine continues to evolve and expand, it makes sense that we include many other types of shooting opportunities for riders during, and off riding season. So, without further ado, let’s cover one of the types of shooting this time of year offers-Sporting Clays. Sporting Clay courses have been around since people have been swinging guns to track a target. In fact, if you want to develop the requisite skills, or build proficiency at shooting flushing birds, getting a bead on a zipping rabbit or taking a poke at a high flyer coming from behind, sporting clays is that developmental tool. And it’s fun! Sporting clays is one of those disciplines you can keep simple, or make more of it at your level of comfort. Meaning you can use that old pump gun you have or spend as much as you’d like for

that fancy over and under. Totally your call. A typical round of sporting clays involves arriving at a station to shoot clays that again, represent the game doing their thing-avoiding getting shot. I’m a simple man so why call it anything less. Upon arriving at a sporting clay facility, you’ll check-in, get ammo-if you need any, or rent a gun-if you need to, and then you’ll be on your way to the shooting stations. Here’s one of the perks-most courses will provide you with a golf cart to safely transport you, your firearm, ammo, and other things you’ll need for the day. It might not be a CVO, but you’ll be glad you have a ride. Courses have predetermined stations at which shooters position themselves on to be ready to shoot. A shooter can ask to “see one”, at which time a shooting partner or attendant, will activate a thrower. A clay and the gun are then loaded, the shooter calls “pull” and it’s game time. A clay is launched, the shooter tracks it and squeezes off a round. With some skill and luck, the clay will break or be pulverized by a dead-on shot. I’ve oversimplified it as the skill means, track, pass-through, and/or lead. And that’s where the fun is. Building skills and competence. After that the process is simple. Reload, shoot, tally up scores, and on to the next station. While the riding season slows during the winter months, riders still want to get out and about. Spending a day at a sporting clay range is a great way to be among friends whether they’re riders or not.

HONORING A LOCAL HERO

I

f you’ve listened to the radio anytime within the last 30 years in the East Tennessee area, you are familiar with the name ‘Billy Kidd’. You also would know the extent of the loss felt in our community after his passing on November 11th, 2020.

Billy, born William Winningham in Livingston TN, where he grew up, graduated from Livingston Academy, and later obtained his Bachelor of Science from UT Knoxville. After working at several radio stations around the region, he finally settled into his home at Knoxville’s Classic Rock 103.5 WIMZ, where his radio career flourished for over 30 years. If asked, he would tell you the reason he got into radio was

to help people, to be a voice for those who didn’t have one. Without question, Billy Kidd, a radio legend, fulfilled that mission. To say Billy helped people, is an understatement. Changing people’s lives is more accurate. He was devoted to his community and gave selflessly to numerous organizations in the area. One of Billy’s most notable annual events was ‘Camping for Cans’. Each year, before the holidays, he would set up camp in a parking lot, along with a semi-trailer. That is where you would find him, even airing his radio show from there, until the semi (often 2) was filled. Over the years this annual event would raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Second Harvest Food Bank of East TN, one of Billy’s favorite charitable organizations. Putting food on the tables of countless families throughout the region was an endeavor that was deeply personal to him. Billy’s other love was the Motorcycle Community. As an

avid rider himself, you would find him participating, if not spearheading the many benefit rides happening annually throughout the community. If he wasn’t riding in them, he was there, emceeing the opening ceremonies, or lending his support by way of keeping the listeners informed of all motorcycle events going on in the area. Billy was an advocate for the motorcyclist’s safety as well. He would remind his listeners to always be on the lookout for motorcycles while driving. Billy was as authentic as they come, not only in person but on-air as well. He gave the community a way to connect. He was more than just the guy playing tunes on the radio, more than a voice coming through the speakers. He truly felt the plight of the everyday, hard-working person, listening on the other end. Our community relied on him and his ability to give us an outlet from the drudgery of ‘day-to-day’ life. His bits of entertaining commentary became our comfort. Billy had a hearty, infectious belly laugh. A laugh that listeners would often hear during one of his most fun segments, “Now It Can Be Told”, where he encouraged his listeners to call in and tell stories of their past that would have gotten them in trouble with authorities, however, were so long ago, the statute of limitations had expired. Segments like that allowed us to express ourselves freely and exuberantly, and 10 ThunderRoadsTennessee.com 10 ThunderRoadsTennessee.com JANUARY 2022

to laugh together. Communication was more than a business for Billy. He instinctively knew how to deliver his message at the right time to whoever needed to hear it. He spoke with compassion and empathy. His words were always spoken with humor and humility. Billy had room in his heart for so many and not just the twolegged folks. As a vocal animal rights advocate, he had a love for our four-legged friends as well. His love and respect for Veterans and First Responders was heard every evening on his show as he included a respectful nod to them before signing off. He would remind us to “hug everybody you love and live every day like it’s your last.” It’s been a little over a year since we lost Billy Kidd on Veterans Day 2020, but the void left behind is still felt across our area, throughout the motorcycle community, the many charities he gave himself to, and the radio family with whom he spent so many years. In that year, our community has never forgotten the impact he had on so many lives. We as a community strive to carry on his legacy by living as he did, being kind to one another, and in Billy’s words as he signed off the air every evening……. “Be the person your dog thinks you are!” In loving memory of our Local Hero, Billy Kidd By T.K. Kelly

HUMILITY & PRIDE To be humble is to be God-centered, Pride is to be self-centered. Gal.2:20 I’m crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live. Yet not I but Christ lives in me. When we accept Christ in our lives, we die to self and He becomes our Lord & Savior. There are some that only use Him as Savior, to save our souls from hell, then there are others that won’t honor Him as Lord. Luke 6:46 “And why call ye me, Lord, and do not the things that I say.” If you chose Christ only as your Savior, all you really got is a fire-insurance policy, and the premium is much too high to pay. PS.10:17 “God hears the desire of the humble. He will prepare their heart; He will cause thine ear to hear.” James 4:10 “Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up.” These are the benefits of being Humble (God centered). Jer.10:23 “O Lord, I know the way of man, it is not in man that walks to direct his path.” Man can’t get out of his own way! He can not direct his own steps, until he can choose Jesus Christ as Lord over his life. When a child does something wrong and the parent ask the aged-old-question; Why did you do that, or What’s wrong with you? The answer is always the same; I don’t know. If it wasn’t for Christ in my life. I’d still be making those same dumb mistakes I made in the past. PS.10:4 “The wicked through PRIDE…will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.” Pride is just as addictive as any drug or alcoholic drink, it can never be satisfied and it always wants more.

1 Pet.5:5 “God resists the PROUD and gives Grace to the Humble.” God’s Kingdom is against Pride and we need all the Grace we can get! PS.8:2 “Praising God will still the enemy and the avenger.” James 4:7 “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee.” Praising God will stop the devil in his tracks. Satan has always wanted the praise that went to God, that’s why he tries to separate us from God. Praising God shows that He is the most important thing in our lives. To be a true “praise & worshipper,” we must be Humble (God centered) and get rid of the pride (self-centered) in our lives. Proud people don’t praise God because they sit on their own thrones. They need to climb down off their cross, there is not enough room up there for them and Jesus. When you stop praising God, you start thinking of yourself.

Luke 9:23 “If any man come after me, let him deny himself, Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up. take up his cross, and follow me.” If we truly commit ourselves To be found faithful, to God, we must get rid of all PRIDE and humble ourselves to be Pastor Ron God centered instead of self-centered. 12 ThunderRoadsTennessee.com 12 ThunderRoadsTennessee.com JANUARY 2022

By April Violet aka

Ms Heelz on Wheelz

ikers are some of the most selfless and generous human beings on the planet. This statement could not have been proven any better than by the Motorcycle Community of East TN. Five years ago a group of motorcyclists got together and decided that no one should go hungry, especially during the holiday season. So, they rallied the troops, told all the riders in the community to get out their crockpots, grab some tables and bring anything and everything that could help feed and clothe the local homeless community. They came in droves and set up under a bridge right in the middle of the highest concentration of those without shelter. Over the years the name may have changed but the heartwarming event did not. It only grew and grew. Fast forward to December 19th, 2021.

As the motorcyclists began to prepare and organize as they had in the past five years, there was a difference. They were doing it this time without one of the founders of Meals on Two Wheels, David J Griffin. He passed away a little over a month before he would see the fifth year come about.

reached out to multiple local businesses and invited them to join them in making 2021 Meals on Two Wheels one to remember. They knew David was smiling that big grin he was known for.

In Loving Memory of

DAVID J. GRIFFIN The motorcycle community he was so loved by were determined to make this the biggest and best Meals on Two Wheels possible in his honor. So instead of going back under the bridge, they partnered with an organization that already has an outreach program. Care Cuts of Knoxville was ecstatic to be involved. They didn’t stop there, they then

Over a hundred motorcyclists from around the area volunteered by bringing coats, hats, shoes, and necessities. A local Law Firm provided turkeys and hams. Additional motorcyclists gladly volunteered to smoke all the meat for that Holiday Meal. Everyone brought food and drinks. They even decorated so those they were feeding would feel like this was something special. They didn’t stop there. They provided showers and haircuts. There were flu and covid vaccines given for free. They blasted Christmas music to spread the joy. They offered comfort by way of prayer for anyone that felt the need. Yes, on that cold Sunday in December, over 400 of the area’s homeless and less fortunate were treated as they should be. As humans. Their spirits were lifted, and hope renewed. ROCK ISLAND STATE PARK W

e always have some nice ride days in Tennessee, even during the middle of winter, although we tend to ride closer to home. State parks have a lot to offer, especially scenic views. Rock Island State Park consists of 883 acres of rugged land located where the Caney Fork, Collins and Rocky Rivers meet, and at the headwaters of Center Hill Lake. The park office is located at 82 Beach Road, Rock Island, TN and is a good first stop for a map to the features of the park. The most popular features include: the historic cotton mill, the spring house (which looks like a castle}, the Blue Hole, 30 foot Great Falls and Twin Falls. There are a total of 10 falls in the park. The park contains many seemingly short trails, however, they tend to be steep and slippery. Even so, you must venture down to the Gorge to get the full effect. That said, TVA has a power generation plant located just upstream of the mill and when generatinxqg, the water rushes downstream filling the Gorge. If you hear the sirens, per some folks we met, ya better get to high ground fast, ‘cause it gets fast and deep quick. There are scheduled releases daily and times can be

seen at www.tva.gov/Enviornment/Lake-Levels/Great-Falls, but unscheduled releases do occur so be safe. This is a very popular park. It can get crowded on pretty days with full parking lots. Although it has cabins and camping, they are often booked months in advance for popular times. There is no restaurant in the park, but The Landing at 868 Seamons Road, Rock Island, is a surprisingly good Mom and Pop restaurant. Don’t let the fact that it is attached to a Shell station fool you. There are scenic picnic areas, as well as a large covered pavilion available to reserve. Ride Safe and Have Fun!! Cooper

Protect Your Bike From

WINTER RUST

Cold weather itself won’t necessarily rust out your bike. Rainwater, snow, sleet, humidity, salt on the streets and road grime are all main causes of rust that can destroy the metal on your bike.

Don’t let this happen to you! Like Ben Franklin said: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Rust prevention is far easier than trying to remove rust once it has taken hold. That’s why road salt residue and dirt should be promptly cleaned, and your bike properly stored—after every ride. The most effective storage solution during the winter is a waterresistant motorcycle cover that is breathable, allowing condensation to evaporate and prevent rusting.

If your bike will be parked outside, look for a cover with reinforced lower skirts. This thicker fabric can keep the cover from scratching your bike when it’s struck by the wind. If you want to ensure that the cover stays, put during windstorms, get one with grommets and use a rope to properly secure it. Covers are readily available at most local dealers and online. Just make sure that you purchase the right cover that is specifically made for your make and model.

BikerDAD T

he Biker Dad TV show will be debuting in Knoxville, Tennessee, in January 2022. You can already catch it on Saturday mornings in Lexington on Fox 56.

I recently left my six-figure job to ride motorcycles and tell stories…. For years I told every young person who would listen to me the same thing: When it’s time to start your career path, don’t get a JOB. Find something you love and make your own business out of it. I figured I was too old to follow my own advice. I needed the security of a corporate job. I needed to feed my kids. Then, an epiphany. The reality is, I’m too old to continue making excuses and taking the so-called “security” of a corporate paycheck. And yes, I must feed my children. However, isn’t it just as important to feed their minds, imagination and inspire them by paving my own road? So, when I left my job, and the six-figure salary, I rode off on my Harley-Davidson and never looked back. My first day as a paid TV journalist was in 1997. My last day was May 7th, 2021. Now just months later my show airs across the country thanks to sponsors like Thunder Roads® Tennessee and K Magazine and Garza Law who sponsor the Biker Dad TV show in Tennessee and Kentucky. Thank you!

At a recent biker wedding ceremony, the Pastor asked the traditional question that if anyone had anything to say or any objection as to why these two people should not be joined in holy matrimony, it was their time to stand up and talk, or forever hold their peace. The moment of utter silence was broken by a very alluring and young woman carrying an infant, was making her way directly to the Pastor. Needless to say the chit hit the fan like oil on hot asphalt, and everything went sideways. The bride slapped the Groom. The Groom’s mother fainted. The groomsmen started giving each other looks, talking amongst themselves and wondering how to best help their Groom. The Pastor gently asked the young mother, “Would you be so kind as to tell us all why you came forth here today?” The young woman very politely replied, “We can’t hear y’all way in the back, ya’ gotta’ speak up!” -------------------------------------------------------------Third grade teacher, Mr. Smith, asks the class to name things that end with ‘tor, that actually eat things. Lil’ Billy replies, “Alligator.” “Very good Billy, that’s a big word.” Lil’ Debbie, the smartest girl in class, says, “Predator.” “Why yes, Debbie, that’s another big word and very impressive you know that one.” Lil’ Joey is waving his hand frantically but Mr. Smith is always reluctant in choosing him, but no other student is wanting to participate so he nods at him to respond. Lil’ Joey yells out, “Vibrator!” Mr. Smith quickly regains his composure and says, “That also is a big word, but it actually doesn’t eat anything.” Lil’ Joey looks suspiciously at Mr. Smith and says quite matter of fact, “Well, my older sister has one and I heard her telling her best friend Crystal, that the dang thing eats batteries like there’s no tomorrow, so there ya’ go!” -------------------------------------------------------------Kids today are pampered and coddled. You could literally sever a finger in the 70’s and your Mom would slap some Mercurochrome on your bloody dripping nub finger, then kiss you on the cheek and send you back outside to play why she finished up her soap opera. Ahhh, good times.

An atheist was seated next to a dusty old cowboy on an airplane and he turned to him and said, “Do you feel like a chat? Flights go quicker if you have a conversation with your next-to passenger.” The old cowboy, who had just started to read his new book he brought just for the purpose of quiet time on the flight and a good read, politely replied, “Sure nuff’ then, what would you like to discuss?” “Oh, I don’t know, how about why there is no God, or no Heaven or Hell, and definitely no life after death?” as he smiled smugly, quite pleased with himself. “Alrighty then”, replied the cowboy, “those are some mighty interesting topics, but let me ask you a question first; a horse, a cow and a deer all eat the same stuff...grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps. Why do you supposed that is?” The atheist, visibly surprised by the old cowboy’s intelligence, thinks about it for several seconds and replies, “You know, that is a profound question that I would not know the answer to without research.” “Well son, do you truly feel qualified to discuss God, Heaven, Hell and the hereafter life, when you literally do not know jack chit?” --------------------------------------------------------------Lil’ Joey’s momma asked him what he wanted for his birthday. He said Jay (much older brother) was bragging on phone about his new exotic and fun pet that he called Stripper. He wanted one of those. --------------------------------------------------------------A woman tells her Doc she wants an operation to fix her way overly large vagina lips, but it must be kept in total confidence as she’s a tad embarrassed most of her life. She wakes up from her operation to find three white roses on the rolling table. Outrages she calls for the Doc, very upset that the confidence was breached. “Please calm down, you’ll tear the stitches”, says the Doc. The 1st rose if from me as you went thru this alone. The 2nd is from my Nurse as she was my only Assistant for the surgery and she had this same operation several years ago. The woman was calming down now and politely asked, “Who is the 3rd rose from?”. “Oh,” replied the Doc, that rose is from the man upstairs, your exact age, in the burn unit. He wanted to thank you for his new ears!” --------------------------------------------------------------Happy New Year, Bikers! Remember.....Life is surely at its’ sweetest when enjoyed through Laughter. * Happy 90th Birthday, Hollis! Life is Good.

Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots:

M

y how time flies!! In 2008 I was the President of Tennessee Chapter One of Rolling Thunder, Inc. War was raging in the middle east and our brave and noble soldiers, airmen and sailors were fighting hard to stop the march of Islamic Terrorism. I’m sure you remember the articles in the paper and spots in the news about service members who were killed and wounded. I met many of you at the funerals and we rode together in honor. At the time I was sending out written emails to veteran organizations and doing occasional speeches about the Prisoner of War/Missing in Action issue and also about the dynamics of what was happening in the middle east and here at home. I am a Vietnam Veteran who spent 20 months in country. I know what it was like to come home from war and for the civilians of our nation to blame anyone wearing a United State Military Uniform for it. It was the time of the peace and love movement characterized by so many songs from the late ‘60’s and ‘70’s. The news media was happy to show the harsh realities of war and characterize it as something new and cast service members as demented blood thirsty psycho murderers. When we came home, we were spit on, called baby killers, punched and shunned by our society. Vietnam Vets still today welcome each other home because nobody welcomed us home from that war. Even today when there is a Vietnam Veteran Welcome Home event it is most likely put on by Vietnam Veterans for Vietnam Veterans. Many still think the movies, “Deer Hunter” and “Apocalypse Now” depict us and keep their distance. As President of TN-1 Rolling Thunder I was committed to doing everything in my power to promote patriotism and ensure the service members coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan were welcomed with honor and knew they were appreciated. Nobody welcomed us home and Vietnam Veterans made a commitment that “Never Again Will One Generation of War Veterans Abandon Another.” When we came home, we were shunned by WWII and Korea vets. They believed the slanted media coverage and joined the chorus of blaming the privates and not the politicians they had elected. We Vietnam Veterans were not going to let that happen again in our lifetime. Vietnam Veterans around the country stood up, organized parades and rode motorcycle honor escort for our brothers and sisters who came home covered by an American Flag. The public was more patriotic after 9/11 and America stood up with us to pay honor to the sacrifice and service of those fighting terrorism. Some even apologized for how they treated us when we came home. I began this article with 2008 because that is when I had a meeting with the Tennessee editor of Thunder Roads Magazine. The meeting was set up by fellow Rolling Thunder brother, Jim Phillipson. He thought I had something worthwhile to say and Thunder Roads would be a good place to say it. My first article

was in March of 2008. My articles have covered a lot of ground and subjects. I’ve tried to add a little humor on occasion and also focus on timely issues. A few years ago, I was asked to write a column titled, “Will Ride to Eat.” It was a good gig because I had to sample the food at the venues I wrote about. Thank goodness Ron Giddis came on the scene and rescued my waist line. His articles are all real winners and the venues he writes about are top notch. Pastor Ron guides my faith. Bless you Brother!! A special thank you to Scott and Denise High for trusting in me and my rants. Good wishes to all!! I was happy to write for Thunder Roads because it gave me a forum to raise topics and issues important to me and also allowed me to do two things; honor my fellow veterans and be faithful to my military oath of office. “I, _____, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.” Over the past 14 years those two goals have guided my writing. As you may have learned, Thunder Roads has a new owner/editor for Tennessee and Kentucky. The new editor has a vision for the magazine and a business plan to support it. I wish them God speed and smooth roads in their quest. However, I’m not getting any younger and my perspective is from a previous generation. It’s time for me to focus on my family farm, moving my vineyard to production of our first bottle of wine and ensuring my family will be able to deal with the uncertainties of the future. If you were a fan of my column and some of the points I made, please buy the first beer should we meet on the road. May you always defend and support the United States Constitution and the bill of rights as written. Freedom Rules!!! Thank you for the ride! Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those who can’t. You can reach me at bousle19@comcast.net - Bulldog * My monthly column reflects my personal point of view and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Publishers of this magazine, but they, like me, acknowledge the sacrifices made for the privilege of Freedom of Speech, therefore, they gratefully let me rant. Thank you for reading my rants. Hope my opinions don’t offend anyone, but we all should be grateful for the right to have free opinions.
