Dear Sgt. Bergdahl, I am writing this letter to you knowing you probably won’t ever see it. I can’t know the pain you have gone through or the hopeless feeling you must deal with everyday. Your days must be filled with thoughts of your Mom and Dad or your friends and hometown. I visit my hometown about every other week. I can’t imagine going over 5 years and not being able to see my family, and friends. I can’t imagine the conditions you are being held are very good. I’m pretty sure you don’t have the comforts of home. I have three sons and sometimes go one or two days without talking to them and I start to go nuts. I can only imagine not speaking to them for so many years. I hope you get to come home soon. It has been way too long for you to still be held captive. I have worn your POW bracelet for two years now. We have not forgotten you. I pray for your release each day and I Thank You for your service. We will never be able to repay you for what you have gone through. Thank you sounds so hollow when I think about what you have sacrificed. This Memorial day you will once again occupy my thoughts and prayers. I pray that this is the last Memorial Day you will be away from all those that you love. In closing, I will not forget that you are not home yet. We need to bring all of our POW’s home and we won’t rest until you are all home safe. God Bless you and the U.S.A. Don Severn, MD
