Houses 1, 2, 3 The three houses are situated in Dale centrum. The three houses approximates from the same era, about 1850, perpetuating the ancient Norwegian timber construction. In a larger scale they represent the ever-present, the typical and the quiet, as Dale it self. In context they surround dale in a curve, embraces the village, evenly spaced out. One of the things to take notice about Dale is that they have small residencies situated in the middle of the village. Not “shoved or removed as in larger villages/ cities, but are allowed to continue as a part of the overall society. They are careful inlays reminding the viewer of a social attitude, the houses serve as a break from the ordinary, mundane centrums. They are easy to pass without mentioning, but it hides a truth about people, scale and history. Generations have passed and the spaces stay the same, new stories fills the timber and resonates within its walls. They stretch out from the church to the water, connecting the dogmas with the shattering omnipotence of the sea.

House 1: The house with its gabled roof is right next to the sea. It is a bit squeezed in between the old factory on the east and other residential building on the west. It creates a narrow passage for cars in to the large open parking lot. It acts as a venturi to the main street, funneling the NW wind, lowering its static pressure. The street cuts a canal that invites curiosity towards the big fjord with massive mountains in front. Green bushes and trees surrounds the curved road carefully guiding a pedestrian. This space is for contemplation of esoteric subjects, debates and drawing up future agendas for Dale. Everybody comes to this place, but nobody knows it. a: b: c: d: e: f: g:

House 2: At the end of the main street this old timber house is parked for good. It is a bit odd, the street abruptly ends in the middle of a cluster of four residential houses. Its like the end of a journey into the village center ends up in someones backyard, it is like its Dales main attraction. From the cafe you will glaze upon this white, timber-cladded space with its inviting white picked fences. It is also in a passageway where no cars is allowed through, where neighbors socialize and cats roam free. It is in a direct line from the main street and the mountain to the East which main goal is to deliver you to the mercy of the church. But only after crossing the densely trafficked road. No place for infidels. a: b: c: d: e: f: g:

House 3: Along this curved road there is a house hiding among green branches. You only see the roof of the small red building, its like a kid spying over a fence. Here the house guards the traffic, watching who comes and goes, ho drinks to much and who works late at the municipality. The old wooden construction reveals its age, tiles are missing and the windows are decrepit. If you are in a hurry you will miss it. The trees to the SSW shelters it from the whipping rain. Its friend with its older neighbor, they team up and agree on most issues. Looking over it towards the west you will see the contours of the mountains enhancing its pointy roof. Internal gossip is found here. a: b: c: d: e: f: g:

House 1z a: Three levels of open space pervades. The connection between them is through light. The top angled roof room is a bit dim, perfect for enjoying the company of a fellow mate, the middle is the bright and open, it invites the fjord and the mountain to look at them with dry feet.

b: In the space inside the darkest corners is towards the East, its also where the you are sheltered from the bashing sound of rain. Some like to play games here, other hides out and speculates on their investments.

c: Spaces between slates of tramping. Opinionated bastards always stamp their feet as if it would validate their argument. The slim vertical spaces penetrates the spheres and transfers heat to the outside world. Its been said that they used to brew moonshine in these vertical spaces. Well hidden from the christian authoritarian members that loath the notion of fun and dance.

d: The sun rarely rises in the west. Seen from the east the space will be painted in the shapes of the big mountains behind. The trees along the road covers the space, almost up to the roof. Its a sanctuary.

House 2 a: It is always best to hide in the open. Inside dubious gambling feeds the cravings of starving locals. A big open space with light coming down from the open roof creates the perfect atmosphere for shady affairs. Some say a mayor lost hes tractor to a youngster on the eightball on a snowy january night back in `65.

b: Big, big, green, comfy. A travel through the main street traces the steps of the monetary systems scars on Dale. Its momentarily shaken by this orchestrated archaic greenery, only to lure you back civilization. But on a human level, suitable for a human or a cats size.

c: Light streams down from the roof and the sky with all its variety is invited in to the space. The sides of this space is sheltered from view, the low sun is just not suitable. Dim lit areas is also to be found. Here you can watch without notice. Thats good for the hustlers.

d: An open space resides over the other, but brings the first space into it. The interaction of these spaces can be broken artificially if needed. It feels like your falling due to the height. True grit and boldness hardens the stomach.

House 3 a: Looking over the tapered roof you will clearly see the two mountains forming the valley to the south. If you a short or dim witted you will not. They act in perfect opposition, one showing off the other.

b: In this plan space secrets pass through, but it is rarely let out again. Certain criteria have to be met for that to happen. Clandestine attitudes is shaped with valor and meekness is devoured.

c: Its a place of low ceilings, and hidden spaces. Tight and sharp angles can cut you, but the soft grey textile in the north corner can hide your mistrust to your neighbours. There`s a small light emanating from below in the middle in the room. It is an incision of freedom that escapes this space.

d: The long line of green leads ignorance right past this space. Only the people attracted to the covert will see the mystical trail to the secluded. The trees shapes a perfect outdoor space that acts as a transition to the uninformed, the mondane. The road to hell is always paved in good intentions.

Stiars The external and internal stiarways in house 1 has a dark underneath space. It is used as a storage space, but contains a gem in form of a darker dimention. The dim and hidden. It is also a hiding “out-space that can be used for uther purposes. One of the main things to notice about stairs is the underneath, its lika a small manmade cave. Combinding these stairs in a layered layout with a sence of texture enhances the feeling of acting in the covert.
