here is no reason to fear a word from God. His word exposes our sin. It reveals our bondage. Those who are enslaved by sin need to experience God’s truth and be liberated from sin’s grip.

8:28 “Lift up” carries double meaning. It points to the crucifixion, when Jesus would physically be lifted up on a cross. It can also mean He will be exalted. Both occurred during the crucifixion. 8:33 Taken literally, this claim was blatantly false. They were under the yoke of the Roman empire. They had previously been controlled by the Assyrians, the Babylonians, the Persians, and the Greeks.
