WELCOME TO OUR FOOD AND FUNDRAISING EVENT Dear Rotary friends and friends of Rotary! Oslo International Rotary Club (OIRC) once again has the pleasure of celebrating its Charter Anniversary. We have now been a club for three years and we would like to invite YOU to a multicultural evening with exotic, international food! This is also our main fund raising event and the proceeds will go towards supporting the university students we sponsor in Bangladesh. For more information, please see inside the program.

OSLO INTERNATIONAL ROTARY CLUB STUDENT PROGRAM Facts: • Bangladesh is a disaster-prone country. Cyclones and floods are common natural disasters. • It is predicted that due to climate change, the annual rise in sea level will be five inches. • Approximately 5 % of the population are unemployed and 31.5 % live below the poverty line. • 77 % of the population live in rural areas. • Agriculture is the main source of income and determines people’s lives
Education: • 15 % of students annually drop out from university education despite their academic success. • Students coming from financially disadvantaged families feel pressured to compromise their integrity in society. • Female students have limited possibilities to work in order to pay for their educational expenses. • Parents dream of educating their children, but they are often forced to choose whom to educate, due to a lack of funds. Boys are often favoured.
Aim of OIRC’s Bangladesh project: • Successful students will create better futures for them selves and for their local societies. • Scholars benefitting from the programme will become the Rotarians of tomorrow. • Youth in developing countries, such as Bangladesh, will strive towards academic, leadership and professional success.
WHAT OSLO INTERNATIONAL ROTARY CLUB HAS DONE... • •

Selected five students at the Sylhet Agricultural University to receive scholarships. The scholarships will contribute towards the educational expenses of the students for the entire course of their studies, i.e. three academic years. Raised scholarship funds through club events and from the kind contributions of Rotary District 2310. Promoted this project to Rotary clubs across Norway in order to sponsor a greater number of students in the future.
