Living History and Civil War Weekend

3

Walk down the main street of Eckley Miners’ Village this weekend and find yourself immersed in the sights, sounds and scents of the nineteenth century. See Union and Confederate troops camped out, watch wartime skirmishes and hear Civil War songs carrying through the colony. This authentic journey into the past is Eckley’s Living History and Civil War Weekend, a complete examination of nineteenth wartime life. The event runs Saturday, August 18 and Sunday, August 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and includes a variety of period-specific presentations. Explore the work of artisans and crafters, examine the music of the era with Kent Courtney, Dave Matsinko and Helen Torok, and sample the concessions during a Patriotic Tea at the Sharpe House. Admission to this rain or shine event is $6 for adults (13-64), $5.50 for seniors (65+) and $4 for children (6-12). Eckley Miners’ Village is a model of a nineteenth century industrial coal mining town designed to represent the lives of immigrant coal miners and their families.
