ANIMALS C

elebrating the renewal of life that comes with the season of Spring!”

Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm presents Farm Animal Frolic, a magnificent opportunity to experience baby animals firsthand. This popular weekend program held May 22nd & 23rd and 29th & 30th, shares shows, games and hands-on activities the whole family will enjoy. Entertaining and downright adorable, Farm Animal Frolic focuses on educating with a clever mix of fun, taking guests on a journey into how family farms help sustain the nation. Watch chicks hatching from their eggs. Giggle at goats and lambs

frolicking about. Feel the soft fur of baby bunnies and more. As a National Historical Site, Quiet Valley preserves an important piece of Pennsylvania’s agricultural heritage. Dressed in period clothing, residents reenact the day to day life of a German family who lived and worked the farm which included caring for barnyard babies (along with mommies and daddies) from the 1760s to 1913. Special presentations are scheduled for both weekends. See Sheep Shearing followed by Sheep to Shawl demos on the 22nd. One Room School presentations happen both Sun-

days, and Children’s Author William Spellmeyer will be on the farm both Saturdays. A Civil War Hospital Camp will be set up on the 22nd and 23rd. Check out Pocono Wildlife programs on the 29th at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Farm Animal Frolic takes place rain or shine 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $12 for adults and $6 ages 3 thru 12. Kids under age 3 are free. All funds raised go to support the mission of this nonprofit farm museum.

meats and familiar Prime Beef cuts like Rib-eye, Strip and Porterhouse steak for well over 40 years; this Pocono Lake shop also shares a flair for how to properly prepare. Recommending “Simple is better,” Marc strongly opposes marinating before cooking. Explaining “It masks the flavor,” he suggests instead using a touch of extra virgin olive oil, along with a light coating of kosher salt, fresh cracked pepper, and granulated garlic before searing. ocated in one of the oldest buildings in the Pocono Mountains, The Pocono Indian Museum is a fun place to spend the afternoon. Through displays of artifacts, tools and weapons, the history of the Delaware Indians comes to life before your very eyes. See peace pipes that are over 150 years old, discover how arrowheads were made, and learn more about Meesing, the “Bigfoot” of area Native Americans. Take an audio narrated thirty-minute tour of the museum if you wish. History buffs will find it interesting that the building that houses the museum once served as a safe house for the Underground Railroad, later a Prohibition-era Speakeasy, and later still, a summer camp dormitory!
