notes This is, a zine that is based off of a single word. This issue is based off the word simple, the word simple was chosen for this issue because i find that all things in life are at one point simple and that is something that should not be overlooked. simplicity is something that is of an essence that can be somewhat easy to obtain but once lost, exceptionally difficult to retrieve. throughout the issue of simple i will show you some of the more simplistic things in life and how they add up to the complexity of life itself. this is simple.

the broom factory is an art collective in south los angeles on the border of inglewood where men and women alike come to create, sleep, eat, and avoid their landlord. there are six spaces on the lot where about fifteen people stay. most without privacy or order. 0 5

i wont be home for christmas photos& text by: jeff fribourg for the past few years i have wanted to take the amtrak from la to austin and camp out somewhere and be nomadic as a big “fuck you� to the holiday we call christmas. that didnt happen though, i took the easy way out and hoped in my car with a burnt out clutch headed for the grand canyon with no where to stay and $200 for food and gas. i was hoping to hit isolation to clear my mind but apparently people come from around the world to go try to catch a glimpse of the colorado river at the bottom of a huge crevasse on christmas. long story short i went to the grand canyon slept in my car, drove the ridge, went to flag staff which sucked (i would not suggest going there unless you know someone who lives there). after spending two hours in flagstaff looking for coffee i started the journey back to los angeles. these are some pictures from the two day journey into the state of arizona.

has anyone ever told you that your legs look like twigs? in these pants it would be literal. simran johnston made a pair of pants from twigs and sticks that were a part of the sculpture instalation in the heimbold gallery at sarah lawrence college. the idea behind these pants is very simple, sticks + slacks. when all said and done the repetition of the simple combination makes for nice and easy complexity. simran is in her third year of sculpture and women’s studies at sarah lawrence college in new york.
