INVITATION THINKING THE EDGE – WATER AND CULTURE 2013 is an international, multidisciplinary architectural meeting with related events, investigating Istanbul’s diversity of culture and future developments in constant transformation. Results and consequences of the transformation of the city, regarding mainly public space, residential buildings, public facilities and infrastructures will be discussed. Focusing on built and natural environment and on projects along the waterfront, the notion of edge will be debated in order to produce new solutions to traffic, new means of transport, public spaces and facilities for the city, and offering a productive space for sharing and learning for professionals, academics and students. Problems will be presented and experiences will be shared in an open environment that will transcend architecture and urbanism to infiltrate other realms, like literature, philosophy, arts and scientific research, with the aim to invite major figures in those fields to bring a multidisciplinary approach to the subject under discussion, kicking off new initiatives in future exchanges between Turkish and international partners. Entrepreneurs, architects, developers, builders from the invited countries will join us to share experiences related to the notion of edge associated with the city. The conferences and meetings will gather current waterfront developments in Istanbul to be showcased and shared amongst case studies and projects developed by international designers, planners and academics. THE PROGRAM is composed of the following events: - Architecture workshop at the University: a workshop for the exchange between architectural students and teachers from international universities; - Conferences and lectures; - Architectural exhibitions. THE TARGET includes entrepreneurs, architects, developers, builders, students and teachers that will present and share problems and experiences. THE EVENT will take place in Istanbul and it will be co-organized with Politecnico di Milano, IAAC Barcelona, ETSAM Madrid, Columbia University NY, Chinese University of Hong Kong TBC, Bilgi University Istanbul, Kadir Has University, Mimar Sinan University. It will be promoted by Turkish Institutions as the Chamber of Architects in Istanbul, and by Italian and Spanish Public Institutions in Turkey as Centro di Cultura Italiana ad Istanbul and ICEX (Instituto de Comercio en el Exterior de España en Ankara). It will be run by ARCHIforum, based in Italy, a non-profit organization that promotes architectural culture through a number of events and will take place during the first week of July 2013 in which entrepreneurs, architects, developers, builders will join with students and teachers.
