Marching Into the Spring Art Scene BY KELLY MACCONOMY • The Art League ~ “Line by Line: Artists Interpret Poetry” juried by Jordann Wine is on exhibit at this longtime Torpedo Factory gallery from March 10 - April 4, 2021. Artists choose a poem or part of a poem, then visually express their interpretation of the words. D.C.based artist Jordann Wine explores concepts inspired by her fascination with “sacred geometry,” but her utilization of glitter has become a notable artistic trademark. This show proves that all that glitters oftentimes is indeed gold! • The Athenaeum ~ 201 Prince Street in Old Town features Chicago-based artist Phillip Livingston’s works through April 4, 2021. His new exhibit online and in the gallery is “Family Ghosts and Other Strangers.” An admirer of Haiku poetry, Livingston’s seemingly simplistic images derive from photos of friends and family, represented as real or unreal, fictional or historical, living or ghostly, or sometimes as silhouettes in mixed media portraits on birch wood panels. • Del Ray Artisans ~ “Give Me Shelter” is the March show on exhibit at the gallery from March 5 - 27, 2021. Curators Pam Day and Theresa Kulstad have incorporated a fundraising aspect benefitting Alexandria’s Carpenter’s Shelter for this exhibit, spotlighting home and shelter insecurity made especially dire due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This open exhibit consists of 10inch square wooden panels purchased by the artists for a $15 entry-fee donation, with a maximum three panels per artist. The finished art panels are then donated to the gallery, and all are on sale at $150 each. On the night of the Virtual Art Party, March 27 at 7 pm, all unsold art will be priced at $100 for the evening. The exhibition preview is Friday, March 12, with VIP timed-ticket entry on Saturday, March 13. There will be featured artist talks. Check the website for details.
