LETTER

FROM THE EDITOR ALLIEY KLINE-WEICHELT

Everyday I am working hand in hand with brides, vendors and venues. I realize that not every couple is able to hire extra assistance when planning their wedding. A wedding planner is a luxury, a planner is meant to save you time, wasted money, stress & anxiety about the day. I believe that if any vendor cannot do this for you then they are not worth investing money in. Above all the details and decisions that need to be made, a wedding is this one magical day, where you celebrate your love for each other. On this day, you are saying in front of family and friends that you will honor and love each other, and put each other first, for the rest of your life. This, right here, is worth celebrating! This one wedding day needs thought and preparation behind it as it is one day - and there is no chance for a redo if something wasn't planned perfectly. For all these reasons we publish this magazine. This magazine is meant to give you tips to plan your perfect day straight from an experienced planner (who has pretty much seen + heard it all!). Again not everyone can have the luxury of having a planner along their side every step of the way - so I hope this helps you to navigate the sea of vendors and find the perfect fit for you and your needs. We at The Wedding Magazine Green Bay are here to help. Skim the pages, learn + do your research... For more amazing articles be sure to visit us online as well on insta + our blog.

XOXO

DRESS TIPS

TOP 9 THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND BEFORE DRESS SHOPPING Contribution by Tie the Knot Bridal Boutique

After working for years in bridal stores and being part of the planning process, I recommend every bride take a step back from this magical wedding shopping expedition and think about how to get their best experience. Here are a few tips to consider when it’s time to find the perfect dress.

SHOP EARLY

Shopping for your wedding dress should be 9-12 months in advance.

DONT WAIT

Do you plan to get in shape or loose a bit of weight before the wedding? Are you holding out on shopping because of this? Since you have to lose inches from your bust, waist and hips to go down a size, order your dress in the recommended timeline. Alterations cost the same whether they take in one inch or two. Waiting to dress shop adds stress and you will most likely incur rush order fees.

GO DURING OFF MONTHS

DON'T BRING TOO MANY PEOPLE

AVOID THE COFFEE SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT

8

Peak dress shopping times are December - March. To have a more relaxing shopping experience, think about going during months other than engagement season (holidays). Think hard about who will be a supporter of your opinions when you are trying on dresses and ask those key people to come with you. Too many people bring too many opinions. Keep this key group small, ideally 2-3 people. Most local bridal shops are not that large and cannot accomodate large groups of people sitting comfortably while you try on. Leave the drinks in the car. We all love our coffee! But white dresses + coffee don’t mix. Plan for a coffee stop between stores.

Most bridal stores recommend having appointments if you plan to try on dresses. Walking into bridal stores isn’t frowned upon to look and just get an idea however, don’t expect to have undivided attention from a consultant. Stores plan their scheduling around appointments so they can best service you.

AVOID SATURDAYS

Saturdays are the busiest day of the week for wedding dress shopping. Stores are packed full of appointments, brides & their guests. Consider a night after work, or better yet, cut the crowds and take a day off work.

DRESS OPTIONS AVAILABLE

Keep in mind that boutiques typically have one dress per style (in most cases). If there are four brides trying on dresses at one time on a Saturday, you aren't seeing the full inventory.

SAYING YES!

Be confident in your wedding dress purchase. If you're not sure, think about it or visit more bridal stores. If you know it's the dress, stop shopping and celebrate.

EDITORIAL FEATURE Brenda Kilheffer Tie the Knot Bridal Boutique Owner

How long have you been in business? 13 years

Why did you start in this business?

I wanted to own my own business. After working in the corporate world for many years and putting in overtime for years, I wanted to work for myself and be able to manage my own hours. Also, my daughter had worked in bridal throughout college and we love weddings, so a bridal store would be a good fit for me.

Do you have a staff or is it just yourself? If you have a staff how do they support you and your clients?

I have 10 employees, both part time and full time. I have a manager who I rely on quite heavily. She does the ordering, pricing, and manages the store in my absence. My other full-time employees each have their own responsibilities in addition to sales. My parttime employees are mainly in sales.

This is clearly your passion, why?

I've always loved weddings. As a little girl, we lived close to our church and I would sneak over and see the bride after the ceremony. Now, as a store owner, it gives me great pride and happiness to see a bride when she chooses her dress.

What is the biggest benefit a bride receives when working with you?

We are customer service driven so we try to give the bride and her wedding party the best service. The bridal gown is one of the most important and expensive clothing items a girl will purchase so it is emotional and exciting. We want to match that excitement when a bride finds her dress but we also realize it's an emotional purchase and one not to be taken lightly.

How have you built your business differently over other area businesses?

I'll go back to customer service. Our brides meet one on one with a bridal consultant. Our consultant is with that bride the entire appointment. So often we start as strangers but trust and rapport build during the appointment. With honesty and integrity, we want to be considered not only a sales consultant but a friend through the bridal gown purchase process.

What are a few of your favorite tips to share with engaged couples? Know a timeline (for ordering gowns, linens, decor, etc. as well as options for your venue, photographer, and all vendors). Also, set some kind of budget. This may change a bit during the planning process but having a starting point is essential so you don't go overboard.

Any trends you see coming for the near future?

Lace is in with a twist. We are seeing different ways lace is used on bridal gowns. That could be more boho styling and lace in vertical patterns. We're also seeing gowns with intricate backs. For bridesmaids some of the new colors we are seeing are sage and hunter green, rust, and dusty blues.

Do you think less people attending a wedding means more? Does it affect your price?

I think the only way this could impact the wedding dress choice is by the venue choice. Sometimes brides just don't see a particular gown style in a certain venue.

LAUREN & SAM AUGUST 28 | LEDGEVIEW, WISCONSIN Erin Jean Photography

Lauren and Sam wanted a simple wedding full of natural elements. After searching the state for the perfect location to accommodate their families in Green Bay and Shawano they decided on The LedgeCrest Reserve in De Pere.

The

venue gave them the size they needed for over 300 guests and they loved the outdoor setting for the ceremony and cocktail hour. Alliey + Co worked with Lauren and Sam to get the details of their wedding just right. Planning was well under way before their beautiful baby arrived just 4 weeks before the wedding. On the wedding day Lauren got ready in the beautiful bridal suite at The LedgeCrest Reserve while Sam and the men got dressed and hung out on the second floor at Bleu. Erin Jean + Vaughter Films made sure to capture each moment, emotion and detail. Buds 'n bloom set the natural tone of the wedding with bringing in lush amounts of greenery and wood elements. Not to mention all the amazing candles + mirrored elements. The ceremony was absolutely flawless, followed by amazing food and old fashioneds, socializing with guests and dancing under the large crystal chandeliers.

FIRST THINGS FIRST TOP 10 THINGS TO DO AFTER YOU GET ENGAGED

1

Sit down with your fiance and talk about the wedding you both want. (not your parents, you!). After getting your ideas in order have a talk with both sets of parents and express your wants for the day and then ask them how they feel about it and what they envision.

2

Guest List comes before venue selection - you need to know what size space you need.

3

A reception facility will be the largest part of your budget, around 40% of the total budget. You may choose to view a few locations before locking down a budget. These visits may help you nail down your budget as well.

4

When visiting a venue also keep in mind that pictures you have seen of weddings here may have had a lot of rental & decor items brought in to make the space look that way. These items add money to your budget.

5

Now that you have some educated pricing, come up with a budget before signing a contract with any vendor.

6 7

A reception facility will also give you great referrals of professionals that have done great work there and are trustworthy.

Consultations with planners are complimentary. Talk with them. They work in these venues, they know.

8

Take your time with selecting a bridal party. There is no rush here! People tend to ask people in excitement before making a plan together with your fiance.

9

Great vendors book up fast. Do not wait. Many vendors will only take a limited amount of weddings per day.

10

A photographer should be first on your list after your venue. Select your photographer so you can schedule your engagement shoot. This way you can have a picture ready for your Save the Dates to go out within 9-12 months of the wedding date.

EDITORIAL FEATURE Alliey Kline-Weichelt Alliey + Co. Master Wedding Planner Expert Wedding Planning + Design

How long have you been in business? 10 years

Why did you start in this business?

I worked in various areas in the bridal industry through and out of college. I was always in the retail and service industry. Event planning is taking care of people and paying attention to the little things, often the things that go unlooked.

Do you have a staff or is it just yourself? If you have a staff how do they support you and your clients?

We have a staff of coordinators and detailers. I conceptualize and plan the large items and my teams assists with the logistics, contracts and setup/takedown and coordination on the wedding day. It honestly takes a village to bring an event to life.

This is clearly your passion, why?

Wedding planning is taking care of people and giving them more than they expect on the most important day of their life.

What is the biggest benefit a bride receives when working with you?

There is no other feeling in the world than to see your client walk into their event space and be blown away. Everything you spoke about for a year or more in one room, brought together beautifully. I love watching a wedding couple walk from table to table to look at every detail. The room we create for our brides is a reflection of their personality and likes.

What are a few of your favorite tips to share with engaged couples?

Planning at the beginning is fun, and easy. Anyone can sign contacts and put money down. There are essential questions that need to be asked during time of contracting with vendors, which ensures that they are right for your day and service level. You get one shot at doing this right.... and you haven’t done it before... no pressure. Make sure to take your time in making informed decisions. Make sure your vendors are experienced. They are what will make or break your day.

Any trends you see coming for the near future?

Maybe this is just a wish... not a trend... but I hope to see more formality come back to events. A wedding is more than likely the largest event one will ever have. When presenting yourself in a timeless elegance using etiquette is a sure way to be classic.

Do you think less people attending a wedding means more? Does it affect your price?

Most of your budget gets eaten up (literally) by food and beverage and per table costs. The less people to feed and seat... the more money to put across the board in entertainment, attire, photography and video. Your budget is 100% driven by the number of guests you invite. Be sure to get a preliminary guest list right away so you select a venue that can adequately fit your size and budget.

M E N ' S AT T I R E FAQ TIPS + TRENDS FOR THE MODERN MAN Article contribution by The Haberdasher

WHEN SHOULD THE GROOM/GROOMSMEN PLAN TO GET FITTED AND ORDER THEIR SUITS?

WHAT SEASONAL TRENDS ARE YOU SEEING?

spring and summer months. (Think light grey or a bright blue)

However, if any of your groomsmen are dieting or working out and expect their size to fluctuate in the months leading up to the wedding, it’s okay to hold off a little bit. While we understand that things can get a bit hectic during wedding planning, no later than one month before the wedding for any last minute measurements, this goes for both rental suits or a suit you’re purchasing as we will need to make sure that items aren’t backordered and we can take care of any alterations

- One thing we can always get behind is a dark suit no matter the season. There’s something incredibly classy about a dark navy, charcoal or a black suit. They’re timeless for a reason and will ensure that when you look back on your wedding photos you don’t automatically think “Wow, you can definitely tell that it was the 2010’s when we got married.” Of course if your heart is set on a lighter colored suit, we won’t dissuade you.

ing a suit or tuxedo for a wedding or other special occasion is $185. If you wear your purchased suit more than once, you’ve already beaten the average cost of a rental suit. When you purchase a suit from us, all initial alterations are included to make sure you have the perfect fit, letting down the cuffs, nipping in the sides, shortening the pants to the right length etc. - A rental suit or tuxedo cannot be tailored. Not sure if you’ll wear the suit again? Weddings, business meetings, job interviews, funerals, baptisms, and awards banquets are just a few reasons we have customers come in for a new suit.

- If you need to keep the budget in mind purchasing a tuxedo will be more expensive than buying a suit. Renting a tuxedo or a suit will run about the same price. There are a lot of really unique options when you rent a tuxedo. Everything from velvet, or navy with contrasting black lapels, to subtle or not so subtle patterns, you have the ability to get really creative when renting! - The time of day and the formality of the wedding should also be taken into consideration. Will you be having an afternoon or evening wedding? Is the wedding at a park or a church? What is the length of the bridesmaid dresses? These are all things that will dictate the dress code for the groomsmen.

I N V I TAT I O N S YOU'RE ENGAGED! SCREAM IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS! NOW LET'S GET FORMAL... Article contribution by Social Graces Paperie

SAVE THE DATES •

Save the Dates should only be sent to those guests who will be invited to the wedding

You can use a paperless save the date if you wish, however, remember this will be harder for the older generation and others to remember the date if it isn’t printed in front of them and put on their desk, fridge, or calendar.

Start your guest list in a template from your local stationer or planner so you don’t need to rework the wheel once you need these to mail.

ADDRESSING ETIQUETTE Addresses should be written formally which means no abbreviating. Example: 1234 Main Street

Green Bay, Wisconsin 54301

Address your guests as you would invite them. Formal Example: Mr. and Mrs. John Smith Casual Example: John & Mary Smith If inviting families indicate that. Example: Mr. and Mrs. John Smith & Family

YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW THAT... •

Children that are old enough to be out of the house should get their own invite

Single guests do not require an "and guest" option

If you know the guest, address them by their name Example: Ms. Jillian Smith and Ryan

MAILING & POSTAGE TIPS •

Always take your complete stuffed save the date envelope or invitation suite to the post office to get measured and weighed before buying postage.

If using custom postage order this postage after the invitation comes in and you are able to get it weighed and measured at the post office. This typically adds 2 weeks to the ordering time.

When selecting your invitation, be mindful of items that add to your postage fee: square size, oversized, overweight, ribbons with knots, folders, etc.

36

T H E W E D D I N G M AG A Z I N E 2 0 2 0

INVITATIONS •

Invitations should be mailed 8-10 weeks prior to the wedding, which means you should start working on them 4-6 months prior.

A wedding invitation should be a preview of your wedding style. This is the only item the guest has in their hands to know how to show up accordingly. Make it a true reflection of the wedding.

If stating dress code, use proper wording appropriate for the wedding. If black tie, that truly means all men should arrive in tuxedos & women in formal evening gowns. This is not that common, try using these dress codes to inform guests. COCKTAIL ATTIRE - Men in suits, short dresses acceptable for women

CASUAL ATTIRE - Khakis & no suit jacket acceptable, women in less formal dress

Order extra envelopes in case of addressing mistakes.

If using a calligrapher be sure to get on her schedule 6-9 months in advance. Contact your local stationery store for a recommended list.

When selecting the RSVP address for the envelope, make sure that it will not change in the coming months. If you plan to move, consider having one of your parents collecting these for you.

Set your RSVP date out 3-4 weeks prior to the wedding so you allow follow up time with guests who have not responded.

Consider using a monogram or crest to be used throughout the stationery & design process.

Consider other pieces of the wedding day stationery that will match the invitation, ie. Ceremony Program, Escort Card, Seating Chart, Menu, Welcome Bag Insert, Favor Tags

Plan to have guests mail a RSVP card back to you. The response rate is greater than RSVPing online and this is the last thing you want to be waiting on when your final counts are due to your florist, planner and caterer.

PARENTS STILL HOSTING, BUT NOT NAMES Along with their parents Sarah Anne Smith And Tyler James Schiller Invite you to celebrate in their marriage

HAVING A WEDDING WITHOUT CHILDREN INVITED? Totally understandable. Here are some tips to politely remind your guests of that. •

On the invitation envelope, only address it to the "Mr. and Mrs." of the home.

On the reception card indicate, “adult reception”

On the RSVP instead of saying "Number of Guests Attending" say "Number of Adults Attending".

There are a lot of formalities and etiquettes when it comes to inviting guests to the largest celebration you will ever have. Make sure to take meaningful time to invite them gracefully. There are a lot of online options for Do It Yourself brides, but don’t forget about your local resources that can make this process pain free and save you a lot of time and money in mistakes.

ERICA & STEVEN SEPTEMBER 7 | GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN KL Creative

Erica and Steven were together for just under six years before they got engaged. It was the summer of 2017 and Steven popped the question while the two of them were watching fireworks. How magical is that?! From there they started to plan out every detail for their big day; including their wedding date! It also had a special meaning since it was the day before their dating anniversary. Erica and Steven had an eye for details, so it’s no surprise that their wedding day featured their personalities in so many fun ways. From the venue locations, florals and decor, to the custom signage and variety of foods, they carefully curated each aspect to reflect their style. These two Packer fans exchanged vows at the Rockwood Terrace right next door to Lambeau Field and continued their reception celebration at Titletown Brewing Company. Surrounded by their closest friends and family, Erica and Steven had a night they would never forget! They even treated their guests to a taco/spud/slider bar and brought in handcrafted gelato from The Knotted Cone for dessert. Needless to say, these two had the time of their lives and are now continuing their happily ever after.

E X PE RT PLANNING WHAT A PLANNER DOES AFTER THE VENDORS ARE BOOKED Article contribution by Alliey Kline-Weichelt of Alliey + Co.

So your vendors are booked… Why do you need a wedding planner? Planning is so much more than booking vendors. After the perfect vendors are booked, the hard work begins…

FLORAL + DESIGN •

Meeting with the florist to execute the vision

Come up with a layout design for the type of wedding you are having

Design the perfect head, kings or sweetheart tables

Talk about sweet treats/cake and how those are presented/displayed

Floral reuse + transfer discussions

Detailed place settings

Instagrammable Photo Ops in room for guests + bride + groom

VENUE + CATERING •

Discussion on courses, number of servers, passed items, signature cocktails or ways to ease bar lines

Attend tasting to discuss timeline of the Wedding Day + expectations of catering + venue

Walk the event space + explain decor plan, what is coming in, when + how everyone will work together for a successful event

Communication of music + audio/visual for the event - Who is MC? What sound system will be used? Will background music be needed if there is no live musician or cocktail/dinner music being played at that time?

Dessert service expectations

Beverage service including number of bartenders, bar locations for efficiency of service + coffee

Late night snack coordination if using outside vendor

EDITORIAL FEATURE Jen Wuebben Sparkle Darling Owner Expert Hair & Makeup

How long have you been in business?

Sparkle Darling has been in business for 6 years! (Although, I’ve been doing bridal hair for 16 years.)

Why did you start in this business?

started Sparkle Darling with the bride in mind. It can be a bit of chaos trying to get the bridal party to the salon on time. It’s much more relaxing and convenient having us come to you. We are organized, timely, professional and energetic. It says it in the name!! the things that go unlooked.

Do you have a staff or is it just yourself? If you have a staff how do they support you and your clients?

I do have a staff of talented stylists. Makeup artists and hair stylists that are all licensed and professional. We are working on growing to provide services for multiple wedding on one weekend.

This is clearly your passion, why?

When a bride books Sparkle Darling, she will be taken care of. We go above and beyond to ensure the Bride has a relaxing, easy morning on her wedding day.

What is the biggest benefit a bride receives when working with you?

One thing I’d like to tell the engaged couple is to have fun! Wedding planning can be stressful, but in the end it all works out. Take some time to enjoy being engaged.

What are a few of your favorite tips to share with engaged couples?

Styles are ever changing in the hair industry. I’ve noticed softer, more romantic styles are in. Almost the done, but undone look is what we’ve been doing a lot of lately. Makeup is definitely less is more, but we do love our false lashes! It gives the eye the glam look.

Any trends you see coming for the near future?

We cater to all sizes of wedding parties with Sparkle Darling. From 1-15, we done them all. It’s really fun to add in the Moms and Grandmas if your bridal party is small. Makes for an enjoyable morning for everyone!

Any new offerings in 2020?

We are offering blowouts the wedding morning for guests as well. We use a hotel room and have your guests come in 30 minute time slots. This is a new service we are adding to our menu come 2020. We will also be offering on location spray tans on Thursdays and Fridays.

What is your favorite part of what you do?

My favorite part of doing a brides hair is when I get to put the veil in. That just seals the deal for me. As women, we wait our whole lives to become a Bride and to me that’s the moment it’s all becomes real. I’m honored to be chosen by a bride to trust me on her biggest day of her life thus far. All of my brides hold a very special place in my heart. Cheers to many more years!

EDITORIAL FEATURE Adam Lesage & Shana Joseph Defining 78 Wedding Photographers

How long have you been in business? We’ve been in business for over 10 years individually and 5 years together as Defining78. Together we’ve shot over 400 weddings.

Why did you start in this business?

We merged our separate businesses to create Defining78 for many reasons. It had always been our dream to give back through charity and volunteering. We launched our Feed50 campaign about 4 years ago, donating 50 meals for every shoot that we do. As of this year we’ve donated over 35,000 meals to kids all over the world. We also wanted to create a better experience for clients. We each specialize in different areas of photography. This allows us to really hone our skills and create sessions and experiences that are authentic, fun, and focused on connection between people who love each other.

Do you have a staff or is it just yourself? If you have a staff how do they support you and your clients?

We created Defining78 with a team in mind. Currently, we have 5 people working at the studio with each of us focusing on what we do best.

This is clearly your passion, why?

When we each started photography, we simply liked taking pictures and trying to make art. We could never have foreseen the journey that photography would take us on through the years: the places it would take us, the people it would allow us to meet, and the journey we would make together. We have worked at bettering our photography, and learned to be the kind of partners who build each other up and make each other and our photography better. Photography is a saturated business, constantly changing both technically and artistically. As photography has changed through the years, so have our personal and professional goals. The last 10 years have given us the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. We’ve personally experienced the births of children, the loss of parents, and cancer. All of these experiences have fueled the importance of what we do and the memories we document and the connections we get to watch and become a part of. While making art is still so very important to us, the relationships we document and experiences are even more so.

What is the biggest benefit a bride receives when working with you?

Experience. Our biggest asset to you is our experience, collectively, Shana and Adam have shot over 400 weddings. We’ve seen what works and what doesn’t. The photography is the easy part. Helping you plan out your wedding day and creating an itinerary is our first step to making sure your wedding is everything you dreamed it would be.

What are a few of your favorite tips to share with engaged couples?

Hire experienced vendors and then lean on them to help ensure you get everything you want out of your wedding day. They’ve done this many times before and know the best options to help make sure your day runs smoothly.

Any new and exciting news you want to share with engaged couples? Wedding Photographer www.defining78.com adam@defining78.com

To better document and storytell your wedding day, we’re now offering a Music Video add-on to our wedding packages. There’s just something so emotive about video and its ability to conjure up memories. Having the option for stills and video is the best way to truly capture your day.

LAUREN & ANDREW REAL ENGAGEMENT + SESSION TIPS TO CREATE LASTING MEMORIES

SEPTEMBER 1 | DOOR COUNTY, WISCONSIN Molly Jo Collection

Andrew and Lauren take an annual trip to Door County together over Labor Day weekend every year. They extended their travels by one day and we kicked off their yearly vacation lakeside and chasing the sunset. Door County is a place that's already near and dear to their hearts and it makes so much sense when couples have a connection to their location. Andrew and Lauren were able to show me their favorite places to make memories instead of the other way around adding comfort, a sense of nostalgia, a personal touch before the shoot even starts and a way for myself, the photographer, to genuinely get to know them and what they're all about (resulting in even more amazing photos!) We knew we wanted to end their engagement session with the sunset, so we began taking pictures an hour before the sun would begin to go down. Timing allowed us to take our time with location number one, the docks, and catch some gorgeous warm glow there. You can feel the sunlight on their faces when you look at their pictures. I suggest two outfits and commonly see an outfit that's casual and another that's a date night look. Lauren's first outfit included jeans and an emerald top making her green eyes pop. Her second outfit was a yellow wrap dress with a petite floral pattern. Having a casual outfit let's us play in ways we can't with a dressier outfit and vice versa, so this let us create lots of versatility in their images. They kept color in their wardrobe and that only added more personality to their session. It was summertime in Door County, a place full of color, dreamy sunsets, docked boats with different shapes and stories, lush greenery and vibrant storefronts. They fit the space with their fun, up-for-anything personalities and choices! What a great way to start their yearly trip, adding even more memories to a place they love!

ERICA & DAN JULY 20 | GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN Ali Leigh Photography

Erica and Dan’s wedding day showcased a meeting of elegant and industrial styles, and we loved bringing their vision for a warm and intimate wedding to life. Gather on Broadway served as the perfect venue for this couple’s style with its exposed brick and warm tones. Throughout their day, personal touches with an industrial flare could be found from the couple’s signage to their table décor. Our personal favorite was how Erica and Dan kept things classic with their bridal party attire and, of course, the bride’s gown and groom’s tux. Green Bay was hit by multiple tornadoes the morning of Erica and Dan's wedding day. The entire hotel they were getting ready at even had to go into the basement to wait out the storm! Miraculously, they got all of their photos in that afternoon without a drop of rain and the show went on! People braved the weather and had the coziest summer night (with a perfect golden hour to wrap up the day) at Gather on Broadway, with candles lining the tables, edible flowers in the champagne and bohemian, yet elegant details all around.

C AT E R I N G T I P S CLEAN EATING AT YOUR WEDDING Article contribution by Deborah from Foodelicious

START FROM WITHIN Clean Eating….Is it important when planning your wedding? The simple answer is YES! Now more than ever it is important to consider the dietary requirements and restrictions of your guests. Gone are the day’s when you can simply offer a secondary meal option. There are many other things to take into consideration, such as:

Celiac/Gluten Intolerance Vegetarians Lactose Intolerance Sugar Restrictions Shellfish Allergies Peanut/Nut Allergies

For many, these are not only healthy life choices, but can be life threatening as well. Whether you are entertaining 30 guests or 300, it is imperative that you are aware of the dietary requirements of your guests. With that in mind it is essential to work with a caterer that is knowledgeable in these areas and capable of providing a quality menu that meets all the requirements.

Finding the right caterer takes a bit of leg work in the beginning. However, considering that it is often the number one or number two line-item cost for most events. It is essential that you take the time and do your research as the quality, flavor, and appearance of the food can either make or break your event!

NOT EVERY CATERER IS THE RIGHT FIT FOR EVERY EVENT Take the time to do some preliminary research online (ie: google search “Clean Eating Caterer”) to locate at least 3 caterers you believe offer the quality and services you desire. Meet with each caterer preferably at the venue you will be holding your event. At this point it is not necessary to request menus. Take this time for you to learn more about what the caterer has to offer and for them to gain an understanding of the vision you have

for your event. Once the menu selections have been narrowed down it is time for a tasting! Be prepared to pay for these tastings…it’s a small price to pay to ensure you choose the right caterer! Things to keep in mind when developing a menu to meet dietary requirements/restrictions:

BUFFET MEAL SERVICE Buffet service is typically the most conducive to offering guests multiple clean eating selections that meet multiple dietary requirements/restrictions. Build a menu that includes a salad with optional toppings, a protein, vegetable that does not include meat or dairy, and include an option such as quinoa which is a whole protein and gluten-free friendly allowing guests to build a meal to include items that meet their own personal dietary requirements/restrictions.

PLATED OR FAMILY STYLE MEAL SERVICE Always include a salad and either forgo the croutons & cheese or offer them on the side. When offering a plated option, offer a secondary vegetarian/gluten-free friendly selection. Confirm that the caterer is open to other specific requests based on individual requirements. Gluten-Free Friendly or No Sugar Added Dessert Options
