PUSEH BATUAN TEMPLE, THE OLDEST AND THE MOST HISTORICAL TEMPLE IN BALI ISLAND

useh Temple is one of unique places that still exist within the Indigenous Batuan Village in Central Hamlet, Batuan Village, Sukawati, West Gianyar, Bali. Meanwhile, if you come from the city of Denpasar, it is 16 kilometers and you can reach this place within 25 minutes driving. Puseh Temple stands majestically on the north side of the Batuan Village, looks very beautiful and artistic. Puseh Batuan Temple is one of the oldest temples in Bali built in 944 Ḉaka or 1022 AD. In addition to having high spiritual nuances and vibrations, Puseh Batuan Temple also has a long history, because inside this temple, there are ancient relics derived from prehistoric times. Because there are many statues in this temple, and based on a number of statues found in Puseh Temple, it can be grouped into several types of statues: dwarapala statue, animal statue, statue of embodiment, statue that holding chickens, phallus, objects such as kala, peripih and so forth. Early the onset of Hindu cultural influences to Bali made the natural stones that exist around
this temple as a place of worship, whether worshiping the ancestors or worshiping Hindu’s gods. Puseh Batuan Temple is included in Kahyangan Tiga Temple. In the middle of the temple grounds, there is a bale agung and a long bale called Bale Kulkul. While at the entrance, there is a high enough Kori Agung and is characteristic of Balinese buildings. Kori Agung serves as a place of entry of the gods in the form of pratima (small statue) and flanked by many statues of giant-shaped guards. While next to the Kori Agung, there are two small doors that serve as a place for the exit of people who will go in the main yard of the temple. And on the main courtyard of the temple there are several bale and meru tumpang tiga, Padmasana building which serves as a place of worship to the Hyang Widhi, and the last, in the backyard of the temple there are ancient wantilan. To satisfy visitors who love art performances, especially dances, a stage is made as a place of Dance Gambuh performance.
