The Pickin’ n Grinnin’ band has been playing music for over 40 years in Wakulla County. They started jamming at the livestock pavilion in Crawfordville over 40 years ago then moved to the Shadeville School where they played for a while. The next move was to the Wakulla library and finally they settled in at the Wakulla Senior Citizens Center in Crawfordville, about 10 years ago, where they play every Tuesday and Friday from 10 AM to noon. The sessions are very informal with 10 to 12 regulars showing up to play every week. They have been in many parades in Crawfordville, Panacea and Sop-

This will be the bands first appearance on the Sopchoppy Opry stage however several members have performed guest appearances there. Senior area musicians who would like to play on Tuesday’s or Friday’s are encouraged to drop over to the senior center to sit in with the band. “We always have a great time pickin’ and grinnin’ together”, says Dick Bickford, the band’s leader and spokesman. “The band is looking forward to the Opry appearance! It’s the best place in the area to showcase our group’s musical and vocals skills. The audiences are always great and love good music.”

The Pickin’ & Grinnin’ Band will join Opry house band, South Bound for an evening of classic country, bluegrass and Gospel music on the stage of historic Sopchoppy High School Auditorium. The Sopchoppy Opry, now in its 16th year, has provided family oriented entertainment since July 2000 and has produced 200+ shows over the years. All net proceeds from the Opry are used toward the restoration of historic Sopchoppy High School, a facility on the list of the National Register of Historic Places. The restoration effort is a joint project of the Wakulla County School Board and the Sopchoppy High School Alumni Association.

Songwriter Mike Rychlik has been singing, writing and performing in the north Florida Panhandle for the last forty years. During this time, he has written and co-written several hundred songs. A songwriter with eclectic influences, Mike dabbles in jazzy blues, funky country, pop ditties, and beautiful ballads. His lyrical approach is steeped in storytelling, history, and humor. When that popular jazzy pop band broke up after almost ten years, Warren became a founding member of Riverbreeze which was hands down was the most popular jazz fusion group in north Florida for over 25 years.
