INBRIEF OC ACCELERATOR HAS NEW NAME The Orange County Business Accelerator in New Windsor has a new name — The Accelerator. Orange County Industrial Development Agency officials said the name change reflects the state-certified accelerator’s new focus and expanded marketing to reach all seven counties in the Hudson Valley region. Financially supported by the county IDA, the facility at Stewart International Airport is focused on bringing back manufacturing to the mid-Hudson Valley. It works to attract entrepreneurs looking to expand their business ventures in fashion design and production, bottling, artisan manufacturing and artisan foods. The accelerator offers below-market occupancy costs for small companies, workforce training, mentoring programs, access to manufacturing equipment and experienced professionals, and a high-tech, plug-and-play environment. Laurie Villasuso, associate executive director of the Orange County IDA, said the new name “better reflects the new dimension of this organization, which will foster job creation and economic growth in the manufacturing sector. There is a tremendous opportunity to bring manufacturing back to the Hudson Valley — due to its prime location just outside of New York City — and we’re very excited about this new initiative.” Villasuso said The Accelerator has welcomed its first client, Unshattered, an organization that makes handbags out of used clothing. It is the social enterprise arm of the Walter Hoving Home, a residential rehabilitation center in Garrison for women dealing with drug addiction, alcoholism, prostitution and other problems. Unshattered will hire women full time in New Windsor after they complete their program at the Walter Hoving Home, which receives all sale proceeds from the handbag business.

STAFFING AGENCY WORKERS INDICTED The owner and manager of an Orange County nurse staffing agency have been indicted after allegedly falsifying the employment history of individuals they put forward for licensing as director and teacher for their planned certified nursing assistant training institute, state Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman said in a statement. Major Staffing LLC Owner Regina Yankey, 38, of Middletown, and manager Debra Polera, 63, of Newburgh, were charged

with nine counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing. Schneiderman said the two knowingly submitted nine different falsified documents to the Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision in Albany from November 2013 to June 2014. Yankey and Polera allegedly falsely submitted the information in order to have approved their planned training institute, Kings Career Training Institute, a school to train certified nursing assistants for the chronically ill and elderly. “Falsifying the credentials of those tasked with training individuals who will take care of vulnerable New Yorkers is irresponsible,” Schneiderman said. “Nursing home staff must have the highest level of training and experience; New Yorkers should expect nothing less.”

ELANT CHOICE REBRANDS AS EVERCARE

fied home health agency; and an adult social day program at its 31 Cerone Place campus in Newburgh. EverCare CEO and President Sylvia McTigue said the company will offer services ranging from insurance product to home care. “This change is a logical step in our evolution and gives us an umbrella under which we can continue to expand our services during our next phase of growth and development,” McTigue said. According to the company, EverCare provides roughly 1,000 patients access to home care through its EverCare Choice, EverCare at Home and adult social day programs.

Elant Choice Inc., a Newburgh-based, home access health care organization serving the mid-Hudson Valley, has rebranded as EverCare. The move comes after Elant Choice announced earlier this year it was separating from its Goshen-based parent company, Elant Inc. EverCare provides home-care services and management of skilled nursing, personal care aides, medical transportation, home delivered meals, rehabilitative therapies, podiatry, audiology and dentistry for its clients. The company’s service portfolio includes EverCare Choice, a managed longterm care plan; EverCare at Home, a certi-
