WICKS, Kenneth Leslie - passed away peacefully at his home in Fenwick, on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, in his 98th year. Beloved son of the late Ada and Harold Wicks. Dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Douglas and Ethel Wicks. Dear Uncle of Dr. Brian Wicks (Sharon) and Barbara Yakobowski (Edward), all of Port Colborne. Great uncle to Sherri Wicks (Chris) and Sarah Yakobowski (Steve) and great-great uncle to Myles and Meryn. Dear friend of Kevin and Betty Twomey and family, and El and Shirley Anderson and family. Ken was an active member of the Fonthill United Church and Charter member of the Fonthill and District Kinsmen. He loved music, driving his truck, and was an avid local historian. Ken was a fruit farmer, employed at Cyanamid, and later in the Chem Lab at Atlas Steels in Welland prior to his retirement. Friends were received by the family from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday, February 12 at the James L Pedlar Funeral Home, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill. The funeral service was conducted at Fonthill United Church, 42 Church Hill, Fonthill, on Monday, February 13 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Garry van Bruchem officiating. Interment Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pelham Cares or the Welland Hospital Foundation. OBITUARIES SPOWART, Joan Irene (Barnett) - In her 68th year surrounded by her family, Joan peacefully passed away February 10, 2012 after a courageous battle a the Stubler Centre, Hospice Niagara. She will be greatly missed by her daughters Lynne Freeman (Rob) and Sue Grant (Rob) and her partner David Swann and family. Her grandchildren Taylor, Sarah, Julia, Robert, Nicholas and Keira will fondly remember their Grandma. Joan will be forever cherished by Tom Spowart, her sister Linda Urias (Brian), her brother Tom Barnett and her nieces, nephews and many friends. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 16 from 10 a.m. until the time of service, 12 p.m. at the Lampman Funeral Home, 724 Canboro Rd, Fenwick. Inurnment at Fonthill Cemetery to follow. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the staff and volunteers at Hospice Niagara for their compassion and care during this very difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Niagara would be greatly appreciated.
