Bruton Enterprise Centre

BRUTON ENTERPRISE Centre opened in December 2021 joining the network of 8 existing Somerset Enterprise Centres operated by Enterprise South West on behalf of Somerset County Council. The site is in a fantastic location overlooking the valley and is already home to 17 exciting small local businesses who have taken office and light industrial space at the centre.

They have had a fantastic response to the new centre and now have just one remining workspace available to let and meeting rooms available for external meeting and training session bookings. The available large workspace is approximately 925 sq/ft and offers a flexible space suitable for a variety of uses, rents are inclusive of all utilities and high speed internet. Mill on the Brue Outdoor Activity Centre provides the best Summer Camps and Day Visits ever! Based in 25 acres of woods, fields and a river valley in glorious countryside. Children have been coming visiting them for 40 years.

They have so much to offer residentially (72 children stay per week) or just for the day. Each age group is challenged accordingly, with so many activities to choose from: Archery, Assault Course, Canoeing, Climbing, Quick Jump, Water Slide, Hiking, Rafting, Super Zip Wire to name but a few. Each group will have their two Instructors for the week or just the day who really get to know the group. They have beautiful gardens and grow their own vegetables that the children will eat whilst they stay. They strive to teach children about healthy living and teach them important life skills, with a lot of fun too.

King’s Bruton

King’s Bruton is a remarkable school with 500 years of history. With over 360 pupils, the key to their success is to combine their relatively small size with a highquality education. They have outstanding GCSE, A Level and BTEC results, with the majority of their pupils going on to their first choice of university.

Their hockey teams have reached 12 National Finals, there are over 70 pupils in their full Choir, their Chapel Choir sings Evensong in regional cathedrals every term, whilst the 200-seat theatre is the venue for outstanding drama. The thriving CCF is one of the oldest in the country, and over half of their senior pupils undertake Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards. King’s pupils are encouraged to respect themselves and others, to adopt a positive

attitude, and to strive to be the best they can be. Pupils leave confident but not arrogant and fully prepared to contribute to life beyond the School gates. The Godminster Shop

Originally best known for their luxurious organic cheddars, the Godminster shop in Bruton now boasts a shop filled with foodie treats and delicious drinks for visitors to explore.

This curated selection features the very best local and European delights, from speciality chocolates to wines, beer, cider and gin. Stop by for their daily cheese tastings, where a Godminster staff member will guide you through their organic cheddar range and tell you everything you need to know about their award-winning range.

The Stripy Duck

The Stripy Duck opened in September 2021 on Bruton high street and is such a joyful little shop and cafe full of an eclectic range of books, games to play and the most delicious locally made vegan and gluten free cake and tarts.

They also host book talks on Wednesday evenings; as the space is so intimate, each talk is very personal and unique. They recently had Freya Berry come and talk about her first novel The Dictators Wife and Pete Gage of Dr Feelgood fame came to play Blues piano and read his poetry. They have had many fabulous talks already and look forward to many many more. 15th of June is Poetry night with Gordon Vells, humorous and honest poetry and the 29th of June is Chris Bucklow:

Book talk tickets are available in the shop or over the phone at £5 each to include a glass of prosecco or elderflower and a nibble. The Stripy Duck are great fans of playing games in the shop and have a free games night on the 1st Tuesday of each month.

They are often complimented on their diverse and interesting mix of books which come from their research, as well as customer recommendations. The staff are excited to be working in a bookshop where they truly would like to read everything!

They have new release hard backs in fiction as well as a prize winners selection. Thriller, fantasy, classics, poetry, memoir, 0-9 years, 9-12 years and young adult fiction. They have a rich alternative selection as well as cooking, gardening and humans and healing. They also offer takeaway - their Lavazza rainforest alliance deliciously smooth and sustainable coffee, selection of organic and Pukka tea and cake. Dogs are welcome and they sell and receive national book tokens. They look forward to welcoming you. Open Tue-Sat 10am-5pm.
