ADVERTISING HOTLINE 966 73 0057 LEADER LA MARINA GOLF SOCIETY
We arrived at Bonalba for an extra fixture in the calendar which was well supported by members and guests bearing in mind it had only been a week since the last match. Despite rumours to the contrary, the course was in good condition, except for the bunkers, which would be improved by the addition of loose sand rather than compacted sand. A bonus for the day was achieved by the rounds being completed in 4 hours which must be a record in Society Golf. We welcomed 2 new guests to the Society, Lynn Young and Terry Stevenson. Nearest the Pin winners were Jimmy Scott, Aidan Byrne and two for our visiting ex-handicap secretary Barry Gribble who will be taking his golf balls back to Torquay shortly. Gold Winner was Alan Craig on countback with 31 pts and Silver winner was Carol Marriner on countback with 29pts. Many thanks once again to Helena at the La Marina Club for providing the after match food. Our next meeting is at Lo Romero on 19th June , first tee-time 10a.m. On 20th June we shall be holding our annual Midsummer Dance. The cost is 15 Euros for a choice of 3 courses and wine . LA FINCA WELCOMES SAN MIGUEL GOLF SOCIETY
Our monthly visit to La Finca, near Algorfa, is always a well attended event with many members clearly demonstrating that this is their chosen favourite of the Quara trio. Like many courses in the area, the greens have recently been hollowtined but with the gorgeous weather lately and some nightly watering, their recovery has been a fairly rapid process. They'll very soon be back to their usual peak condition. Just one singles match was played in amongst the day's Stableford event which saw Marg Birtwistle march on into the quarter finals as she managed to get the better of Mick Roscoe (3 & 2). This sets up what could be an epic "duel of the Scousers" as Marg's next opponent is ex-capt & fellow Liverpudlian, Ken Flaherty....so no interpreter will be required. The four NTP's went to John Osborne (3), Neil Bannon (6), Charles Jones (13) & Brian Mulligan (16). The extra prizes for NTP in 3 shots on holes 7, 11 & 15 went to Barry Roehrig (Gold), John Aitchison
(Silver) & Glen Rapley (Bronze). Prizes were awarded to the top 2 visitors - Martin Quinn (28) & Brian Dolan (29). Bronze division's top 4 were Karen Simpson (30), Brian Mulligan (32 C/B), Richard Bland (32 C/B) & Alan Gilbert (33). Silver's winners were John Drakesmith (35), John Aitchison (36), Capt Steve Davis (38 C/B) &....who else would dare to beat the captain? ?.....only the President, Phil Birtwistle, with the same 38 but a slightly better back nine which clinched it! It was a tight finish in the Gold division with 4th going to Barry Roehrig (32), Theo Boelhouwer (33 C/B), Steve Fleet (33 C/B) & top slot went to Tony Smale with.....you've guessed it...33! Well done to all those in the prizes & don't forget to visit www.smgs.org for all society matters or simply give Baz a quick buzz on 966 731 033 for info on future Wednesday games.

HORADADA BOWLS REPORT
LAS RAMBLAS GOLF SOCIETY
By John Bailey On Wednesday 4th June, Horadada played La Siesta in the VCL - 2014. La Siesta came along with a strong team, as the end results show. Horadada only managing to pick up 4 points out of the 12 on offer, thanks to Ann Allen winning the Ladies Singles game 21 - 16, and Yvonne Hurlock, Fred Trigwell and Wayne Jackson getting 2 points, for their win in the Trips. 16 - 11. That made the final result, Horadada 4 points and 72 shots to La Siesta having 8 points and 99 shots. Making La Siesta clear winners on the day. On Friday 6th June, Horadada travelled to Play Country Bowls on their green. Early into the game, it all was going in favour of our opponents. But I am glad to say that things changed, but not for all our players. With 2 rinks finding it difficult to get going, or keep points, throughout the match. We put up a fight, but it was not our day. We did manage to share the rinks, winning 3 each. The Shots difference gave Country Bowls an extra 2 points, and a win. The final result for todays match being; Horadada Hawks 6 points and 96 shots, Country Bowls Badgers 8 points and 103 shots. Winning rinks being, Alf Woodhouse, Jim Kerr and Ann Allen 14 - 9. Rose Guppy, John Hurlock and john Simpson 22 - 16. Wayne Jackson, Roy Collins and Alan Pugh 22 - 9. Well done Badgers. We will be looking to get a better result, when we next meet.
Mike Chapman We started the week off with a 2 ball better ball which saw some ridiculous scores being returned so much so that two teams, mine included, that scored 45 pts didn't even get a look in! In second place was the pairing of Norman Page and Ron Percival with 46 pts but in first place with 47 pts was the team of Joyce McClusky and Alan Douglas whose total included an incredible 26 pts on the back nine. On Wednesday it was the fifth of six rounds that count towards the Club's Medal Championship with six points available to the winners of both the Ladies and Gent's categories, five for second place and so on but on the day prizes are awarded to the top three players in Categories 1 and 2 as usual. Although the greens are still bedding in after recent maintenance work they were in fair condition which meant the handicap secretary was ready waiting with his axe following last weeks amnesty. Scoring was excellent particularly in Category 1 with three players beating par and the Wheelers went home happy winning both Categories. The full results was as follows: Cat 1. 1st. John Wheeler 69 (c/b) 2nd. Ken Robertson 69 3rd. Alan Douglas 71 Cat 2. 1st. Carole Wheeler 72 2nd. Rod Bryant 74 3rd. Barry Holtham 75. 2's Club. Rod Doel, Ken Robertson, Lindsay Forbes, Norman Page, Barry Holtham We were playing with fire on Friday as our game on the sixth day of the sixth month was a 6x6x6: no wonder the fixture secretary chose not to play! The devilish team that overcame the dark forces at work that kept my ball out of the cup on several occasions were Rod Doel, Nick Campbell and Annemarie Weisheit who won with 79 pts. One point behind were the unlucky team of Olga Douglas, Brian Townend and Brian Humpheyson.
