and March 27th to 28th. The goal is to showcase real maple syrup and how it is made, according to the New York State Maple Producers Association. Local producers intend to do just that. Among those anticipating the maple season is George Gustafson, of Maple Country USA in Falconer.

He’s been involved with the Maple Weekend for about ten years. The weekend originated in Wyoming County, and grew throughout western New York and the rest of the state. Gustafson believes the original idea came from Maine, and is now being copied in Vermont. Gustafson believes having two

Wine & Chocolate Weekend

This Month the Chautauqua-Lake Erie Wine Trail Matches the Perfect Pair By Rebecca Blakeslee The Chautauqua–Lake Erie Wine Trail celebrates chocolate and art at weekend events in February and March. The trail’s annual Wine and Chocolate event is the weekend of February 6-7, and for March 20-21 they will partner with the Chautauqua Art Trail and the North East Arts Council to explore the connection between art and wine. Wine and chocolate are often paired, but they go together in more ways than simply taste, said Jennifer Johnson, president of the wine trail. Chocolate, like wine, is often labeled with its geographic origin because the taste of both are influenced by their environment. This year’s dishes range from chocolate cherry almond scones (paired with Burch Farms’ cherry See WINE page 3

February 6 & 7, 2010 the wineries of Chautauqua-Lake Erie Trail will open their doors to you in this scrumptious event. During Wine & Chocolate Weekend they will offer dishes such as chocolate cherry almond scones and Chocolate Almond Caramel corn. To find out more log on to www.chautauquawinetrail.org.
