Locals acknowledged at community awards evening
The annual North Sydney Community Awards, organised by Trent Zimmerman MP, were held in September to acknowledge and thank local volunteers. Guest speaker was Geraldine Doogue, who presented the awards with Mr Zimmerman.
Sydney Community Services (formerly Lane Cove & North Side Community Services) was awarded North Sydney Community Group of the Year.
THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY WERE ALSO ACKNOWLEDGED FOR THEIR SERVICE AND DEDICATION.

Bill Wallace, Lane Cove Council’s Town Crier, received a Community Award. Bill is pictured with Clr Deb Hutchens, and Trent Zimmerman MP. Graeme Priddy from Lane Cove Rugby Union Club was presented with the Sports Award. Geraldine Doogue and Trent Zimmerman MP presented Sydney Community Services (SCS) with the North Sydney Community Group of the Year award. The award was accepted by Shirin Kanji on behalf of SCS.

Community Award
• Patrick O’Farrell – St Joseph’s College: volunteer at Marist Children’s Camp, St Anne’s Nursing Home; nominee for Lions Youth of the Year.
• Elma Kearney: volunteer with Scouts and Girl Guides, Lane Cove Progress Association. Principal petitioner for footbridge over Epping Road. • Joy Stephen – Pink Ladies: volunteer since 2005. Coordinates and oversees the Pink Ladies at Royal North Shore Hospital, runs fundraisers for the group. • Bill Wallace – Lane Cove Council: Lane Cove Town Crier; regularly attends events with the Council and the community.
• Greg Griffiths – Probus Club of Hunters Hill: volunteer since 2002, President in 2006. Local Justice of the Peace and co-ordinator of Linley Point Neighbourhood Watch. • Michael Murphy – Hunters Hill High School: volunteer with Sailors Bay Sea Scouts; leads Duke of Edinburgh expeditions; oversaw redevelopment of Hunters Hill High School.
• Andrew Curtin – Hunters Hill Sailing Club: current President of the Sailing Club; helped rebuild outdoor area at Riverside Preschool and with the redevelopment of Villa Maria Primary School.
• Margaret Schnitzler – Hunters Hill High School P&C: President of P&C. Helps oversee multiple sub-committees and run the canteen and uniform shop.
• Josephine McBride – Hunters Hill Ladies Probus Club: member since 2001, President, Secretary and Activities Director. Produces monthly bulletin. • Lynette Partridge – Lane Cove Sustainability Group: volunteers in Lane Cove West Residents’ Association, Lane Cove Streamwatch and bushcare groups. Also active in her local Neighbourhood Watch group.
• Paul Hackett – Lane Cove Apex Club: volunteer with Wayside Chapel, Lane Cove Community Aid and St Vincent de Paul, as well as Lane Cove Apex Club.
Sports Award
• Graeme Priddy – Lane Cove Rugby Union Club: fundraiser, match day organiser and Council liaison. Graeme also volunteers at Lane Cove West Public School and Birrahlee Kindergarten.
